1 Engine Knocking Noise problem

Failure Date: 12/20/2020

I tl- the contact owns a 2014 kia Forte. The contact stated that while driving at 30 mph, he heard a knocking noise coming from the engine and a burning fuel odor was detected. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was first taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed with damages connecting rods. Rods that connects the piston to the crankshaft from the bottom part of the engine. The mechanic contacted the kia manufacturer for support and was informed there would be a recall from NHTSA coming out soon relating to the failure. The contact stated he received a recall notification with NHTSA campaign number: 20v750000 (engine) and that was the failure the vehicle experienced. The vehicle was then taken to hansen kia ( 2300 carriage loop sw, olympia, wa 98502) for a recall inspection but was informed that the failure was the top part of the engine and not related to the recall so the recall repair was denied. The vehicle was later taken back to the independent mechanic and the failure again was diagnosed as the bottom part of the engine that had a broken rod bearing relating to the recall. The contact informed the kia dealer of the independent mechanic's diagnostic and provided photo evidence but was again denied the recall repair. The contact stated that the recall for the vehicle was no longer showing on VIN tool when he searched it using his VIN after the dealer performed the recall inspection, the manufacturer was informed of the failure but offered no assistance. The failure mileage was 50,800. Tp.

3 Engine Knocking Noise problem

Failure Date: 06/14/2020

At approximately 100k miles in 2018 car began consuming what I deemed more than normal oil between 4000 mile service intervals as well as began a slight knocking sound. Kia dealership attributed this to 100k miles and normal engine wear. Knocking went from slight irritation to something is seriously wrong in the summer of 2021 at 155k. Had vehicle towed to my local kia dealership for inspection where they informed me the engine was shot and needed replacement for around $7500. Took the car back home via tow truck as I did not have that kind of money for a car I had just paid off finally. Did research which led me to believe kia had some known engine issue directly related to what this seemed to be and it was believed they would issue a recall. Held onto car until recall was issued and again had it towed to dealership. Dealer immediately informed me that I did not qualify for the recall repair as I was 5k miles over the limits for said recall sc200. My reading of the recall stated they would do repair up to and including engine replacement and warrant work for 15 years or 150k miles which ever came first. They stated this was limit for repair and not warranty. Contacted kia consumer affairs and have been getting the run around for 3 months now as to whether or not they are going to repair my vehicle. I feel at this point I am fighting a losing battle for known issue and kia has lost a customer for life as I wish I had not purchased the one I have now if I had known they were not going to stand behind their product. Out of the roughly 300k vehicles I doubt many will meet this criteria if that is indeed what it is so they will look good in saying they are recalling and fixing when in reality they are not fixing many at all.

My 2014 kia Forte suddenly started making a knocking sound and shut off while driving down the interstate. After towing vehicle to the shop I was told that the engine needs to be replaced. The mechanic told me he does not understand why as there was not anything that could have caused this. Are fluids were good and clean. Upon reviewing kia had problems with this engine in other vehicles which led to recalls.

8 Engine Knocking Noise problem

Failure Date: 06/10/2019

2014 kia Forte ex 2. 0 liter gdi engine has knocking noises. When I took it to grossinger kia of lincolnwood, IL they quoted over $4,300 + labor due to metal shrapnel in the engine and they told me that I needed to replace the short block of the engine. They told me that the car was out of warranty because I was not the first owner and that the engine was only covered until 60,000 miles. I bought the car used around November 2018 when it had around 61,000 miles because it had a clean carfax history but I noticed the knocking noises became increasingly louder until I took it to the dealer. I've searched online and it appears that Hyundai/kia has a manufacturing defect with their gdi engines as there are currently lawsuits concerning their engines failing due to a manufacturing defect. I believe this car also has a defect engine and an investigation should be done to compel them to repair their defective engines.
