Air Bag Problems of Kia Motor Forte - part 2

No incident yet, but I see other kia's that have been recalled for powertrain system and air bag issues. The power train issue comes up when I get my engine light checked and the airbag light is on. Also, a constant problem is the break switch, the push button car won't start sometimes and the steering wheel doesnt lock because immobilizer is a problem and other kia's have been recalled but not mine, instead they sent me a wheel car lock. I see online so many people complaining about the push button car not starting like mine which may be due to the immobilizer issue and theft. It is annoying to see other vehicle recalled but not mine.

Car took off. Zoomed. Out of control, my safety was put at risk since car speeded off. No one else safety was at risk since no one was around. The car is currently at a collision shop. Car has been inspected by insurance and being fixed. No warning signs and air bags did not come out.

Recall #sc165,for the airbag frontal deploy module failure was fixed but now the same problem along with the airbag malfunction indicator light is illuminating on my dash. Kia won't call me back or email me back when I asked them if this is something they will fix again since the first fix failed for this same issue? and randomly while driving I smell a electrical burn smell but no smoke? when I was leaving for work that morning and I stared my car the indicator light came on and never has gone off since that day?.

Airbag warning is on, buttons/control of the wheel dont work, cruise control does not work. Motor shakes a lot. We got this car 2-3 weeks ago light was not on when we got it from the dealer. Im not an expert but I think that something is not working properly. . . Im do apologize for the inconvenience.

2018 kia Forte kept stalling out, 3 times in 2minutes. Drove it home, had it towed to kia spitzer west, it'd been there since may27, 2023. They will not repair, they will not replace, they won't even call me back. It's a disgrace.

On may 13, 2023, I was involved in a severe frontal collision on the passenger side while driving my 2021 kia Forte. The impact caused significant damage, and my insurance company declared the vehicle a total loss. Despite the severity of the crash, none of the airbags deployed. I experienced body pain for several days following the accident. Given the nature of the collision and the damage sustained, the airbags should have deployed to protect the occupants. This raises serious concerns about the reliability of the supplemental restraint system (srs).

I have a 2017 kia Forte that I believe was made in mexico (12/16) in December of 2016. I have an airbag fault illuminated. I used a scan tool to read the fault. Its 10 faults including dtc b1620, the airbag srscm is not communicating. I made an appointment at local kia dealer for recall. I downloaded the sc226 recall. The recall affects a production range for 2017-2018 my Forte from March 2, 2017 to July 27, 2018. My kia was manufactured 3 months before and has the same defect. I used the NHTSA website to search the VIN and returned the same results. I want to register a complaint that there are more affected vehicles than covered by this recall. I am sure that if the NHTSA were to collect data on vehicles being repaired for this identical defect would find that a greater number of vehicles were affected and many may be operating unsafely without repair.

The car had a slow ticking noise that was very faint in the front for about 20 minutes 20 minutes later the noise continue to get louder about 45 minutes later six gear was lost in the car in about an hour and a half later the engine failed and the car came to a failure lock down procedure all lights on the front door shut on steering wheel locked on friendship road exit 8 and the vehicle had to be towed to a shop we’re now it was put on a lift and there is a hole in the bottom of the engine , and the transmission is not in tact.

Vehicle was involved in an accident. No air bags were deployed. Vehicle was declared a total loss. Have reached out to kia manufacturing regarding issue.

The contact stated that no air bags deployed in his vehicle. The contact stated that he sustained back pain. No medical attention was required. Air bags did not deploy during car accident. I sustained severe injuries to the face. Puncture wound to jaw, forehead laceration to skull, spinal cord damage, and fractured ribs. Unknown if problem has been reproduced or confirmed by dealership. Car was totaled not sure if it’s available for inspection. Vehicle is being investigated by insurance and police did complete a report. Check forward avoidance assist system.

The air bag light came on. I brought it to the dealer and was told it was the clock spring. I was charged over $700. 00 for this repair. It appears that other years of the same make and model had problems with the clock spring as well and received an extended warranty. I want to know since my car had the same issue why my car 's clock spring is not covered in this class action suit for the extended warranty. . Thank you for any assistance . I contacted kia USA and they would not refund the cost.

The contact owns a 2014 kia Forte. The contact stated while driving 45-50 mph, the engine was misfiring and there was dark smoke coming from the exhaust pipe. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact was able to continue driving; however, the failure had been reoccurring while driving. The used car dealer was notified of the failure. Additionally, the contact stated that the air bag warning light was illuminated. The dealer and the manufacturer were notified of the failure and informed the contact that the VIN was not under recall. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 137,000.

The air bag is on for over 3 years and not included in the recall. This is a fearful safety issue. The serpentine belt has been replaced three times a year.

I initially submitted a complaint on Nov 6 with my 2018 kia about engine failure /possibly, my car was towed to darcars kia urbana pike in frederick MD, I had just made an appointment with them b4 my car broke down to get the trunk & air bag recalls taken care of 11/09 my car sat there until yesterday, they never took care of the recalls? regardless my engine /break down shouldn't they have fixed those issues? and I was told they would run diagnostic test on my car to figure out what happened, I never received anything other than them wanting me to pay 7,000 to fix my car ,or they would give me 500. If I wanted to sell they told my insurance agent I had engine failure from normal wear and tear? I didn't know they only expect their kias to run 100,000k also got a bill with absolutely no explanation of why I was charged,they clearly are playing a game- I called kia America who left me on hold over 2 hrs until I hung up,also emailed them about my recalls not being taken care of - they said it's not their problem, I'm assuming I should get a lawyer now.

The insurance company towed the vehicle to one of their tow yards and at that time the vehicle was deemed totaled. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and advised to file a complaint with NHTSA. The approximate failure mileage was 118,000.

The contact owns a 2021 kia Forte. The contact stated that while his mother was driving at 20 mph and attempting to complete a left turn another driver failed to stop at a red light, as a result the contact's mother was struck by the other vehicle on the passenger's side; however, the air bags did not deploy. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was towed to a repair shop for body repair but was not taken to the dealer or an independent mechanic to determine as to why the air bags did not deploy. A police report was filed and injuries were reported. The contact's mother did not initially seek medical treatment but was later treated by a chiropractor for back pain resulting from non-driscript injuries sustained during the accident. The contact also stated that his mother had later been involved in 2 additional vehicle accidents during which the air bags again failed to deploy; no further police reports or injuries were reported. Following the third and most recent incident the vehicle again was not taken to a dealer or independent mechanic for diagnosis though the contact's mother was informed by the body repair shop that the collision was not sufficient enough to trigger air bag deployment. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.

The air bag light stays on consistently, with the exception of flashing off for a brief moment periodically, only to return on immediately. Steering wheel mounted audio controls have mixed up controls, volume operating channel skip, while channel skip up, skips down, etc. . . I don't know that it is possible for the air bag to deploy unexpectedly, without impact, but the obvious concern is that it may not go off in the event of an impact, leading to excessive injuries. I had an independent service center advise me that the likely cause is a faulty clock spring, as this would cause issues with the steering wheel controls as well.

I toke the car in for the recalls it had on it back in the fall of 2022 to don franklin kia in somerset, ky. The airbag light still goes on and off intermittently. It has been on steady for nearly 3weeks straight now. Since that did the recall of the clock spring of the air bag, they are wanting me to pay for the repair out right. It could be as much as $3500. 00 for the air bag and module. I don't know why it's not covered since it didn't fix my problem the first time. Please help, any advice would be appreciated. Trunk opens unexpectedly.

My wife got an accident in June 2022 but air bag did not work so I contacted kia 6/22/2022 sent proof photo but just no good excuse why air bag did not work. It should be recalled for this matter. Defective airbag or sender.

My car is stalling. Stalled on the highway. Has knocking sound. And if I let up off the gas at all it stalls. Will stall in neutral as well. Was involved in an accident last year and airbags did not deploy even though they should have. My car started stalling at 86,000 miles with regular oil changes. I’ve only had the vehicle about a year and a half. My lights also are shorted out due to the trunk not closing all the way and rain water getting in. I’m still making payments. I do not know what to do. I’m a sole caregiver to my terminally ill mother. I need this car. I do not make very much money.

Air bag light is on and dealership can't find cause. There is obvious reason for this and the kia dealership is at a loss. They've replace coil/spring and acm it didn't fix it. Now they think it's a possible wire issue. Im the original owner and my car is a 2012 with about 75000 miles on it. I understand that older cars have issues but I still don't feel like there's enough "wear" for all this "tear".

I was told to come to service department on 2/22/2022 to change my indicator light because it was not working and had to be ordered in advance and for recall on trunk latch. The invoice said bulb was replaced and trunk lock and did multi point inspection. I asked her if everything was ok with my car she said yes but the next day I realized it indicator light was still not working. I got another recall to replace air bag. I called in and got a service appointment for 4/2/2022. I told them the indicator was still not working and I was having an oil leak. They said $155. 00 for inspection for leak, confirmed that one of the oil pan was leaking and would cost $200. 00 to replace but it was cover under warranty. I said ok. When I turned on car and try to drive out there was a funny scraping sound, one of the managers came out when he saw me stop and getting out of car and said it was because of the painted surface of the service entrance. The next day I looked at the invoice and saw that they did not replace the oil pan but had "scraped off factory rtv and replace it with fresh rtv and reinstalled oil pan. " my indicator light still does not work. I am still having leak, pool is on my garage floor and also drips. I am worried now because I am not sure air bag was changed even when they said they had and have done another "multi-point vehicle inspection.

My daughter was in a collision. A car hit her kia Forte on passenger front side and the front drive side caved in which bent the frame. The air bag didn’t deploy. Her head hit the review mirror and it broke from the windshield. The insurance adjuster mentioned that he would have thought the air bag would have deployed. I also thought so to. I googled the kia Forte and found reporting of air bag deployment issues. Please investigate.

Unknown had the car only 2 years and the air bag light came on and they have never has been deployed.

The contact owns a 2015 kia Forte. The contact stated that after accelerating from a red light the driver side airbag suddenly deployed. Upon inspection it was discovered that the passenger side tire had also flatten. During the incident the driver sustained an injured right arm. The contact indicated that no collision or frontend damage had occurred to cause the failure. The cause of the failure was not determined. The manufacturer and local dealer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 180,000.

Engine and air bag.

The contact owned a 2019 kia Forte. The contact stated that while driving at night in foggy weather conditions at 55 mph, the contact rear-ended a parked vehicle while trying to avoid hitting a deer. The gear shift was still in drive but the vehicle was completely stopped from the impact. No air bags deployed upon impact, and the seat belt did not restrain the contact in her seat during impact. The contact was transported to the hospital for injuries sustained to her head from hitting the windshield and her hips from hitting the steering wheel, which prevented her from flying out of the windshield when the seat belt failed. The contact also sustained additional injuries to her shoulder, neck, and back. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to a tow yard and deemed totaled by the insurance company. Prior to the failure, the vehicle was involved in another collision in September 2019, when another vehicle crashed into the contact's rear driver's side door. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact that there was no recall associated with the VIN. The manufacturer referred the contact to filing a complaint with NHTSA. The failure mileage was approximately 70,000.

My kia Forte when I put it in reverse it will jerk back then pause and hardly push itself backwards I have no control same as putting the car into drive. I also consistently hear water in the bottom of my car swishing around.

My car was hit in an accident & my air bag light popped on but they didn’t deploy. The light is still on and that was over 2 months ago.
