Brake light failure on both tail lights. The problem started by finding mold in the trunk. This was caused by water pooling in the bottom space where the spare tire would go if it came with one. Water leaks were observed from both tail lights into the trunk. The culprit seems to be bad gaskets for the tail lights. The gaskets have cracks which let rain water through. The poor design of this part has caused both brake lights to stop working. I fear water damage with the wiring / electrical system. The 3rd, center brake light still works. Will kia pay to fix this important safety feature?.

This vehicle has now repaired 2 times for recall on brake light/wiring issue. We were charged by the jenkins kia of gainesville, florida for the last 2 times. This is a safety issue since brake light keeps burning out. Mechanic at another business advised bulb burned so much the bulb holder was burned. Sc158 is recall number. Repairs done 10/22/2018, 2/14/2020 wiring harness & bulb holder replaced all at our cost. Recalled twice for this issue. Bulb now burned out again 2/15/21. Feel cheated by this dealer since has been recalled 2013 & 2015.

I have owned my vehicle for approximately 6 years. Since 2017, I have started having an issue with the driver's brake light burning out. At the first sign of trouble and multiple replacements within a 4 month period, I took the vehicle to the dealer. The dealer recommended replacing the entire taillight assembly. The replacement service was completed and the issue was fine for about 1 year. In 2018, I began having issues with the brake light again for the left and right. It started with needing to replace the lights every quarter. Now, I replace the brake lights at least every 1-4 weeks. The light either has become so hot and blown out, or when I hit a slight bump in the road -- the light dislodges. I have taken the vehicle to the dealer and they have surmised that the issue is not related to electrical wiring, but they believe the socket is not holding the bulb snugly to retain lighting. This is a major safety issue due to the inability for other drivers to know that I am braking. There was one instance that both brake lights went out at night. As a result, I carry a spare packet of taillight bulbs in my vehicle at all times. I intend to return to the dealership on 10/15/2020 to request another repair to the light and to purchase a new taillight assembly. I have taken care of the vehicle ensuring service is completed in a timely fashion. This has been the only negative experience with the vehicle, but it is a crucial issue as it puts my life and others' lives in danger. This is not a new issue with the 2013-2014 kia Forte. This is a common issue in forums. Yet, there is no recall.

I bought this car brand new at the end of 2017. I have taken extremely good care of the car. A little over a year ago, I took it into the dealership to get something cosmetic fixed on the interior. I picked up my car and when I got home I realized both headlights and one brake light were not working. I took my car back in and they insisted that when one light goes out, they all go out which isn't true. I insisted that there must be an electrical issue and that I wanted a technician to check it since my lights were working just fine when I brought my vehicle in. After many different appointments and inspections it was determined that it was my wiring harness that was broken on the drivers side. Warranty didn't cover it. Less than a year later same thing happened on the left side, warranty didn't cover it. The technician even stated that the engine got too hot and melted the wires. He was surprised warranty didn't cover this issue since it happened on both sides within a year to a car that is fairly new and really well taken care of. Having both headlights and brake light not working is very dangerous. Especially when driving in a dark and rainy area. How has this happened to so many people and this vehicle hasn't been recalled? I am extremely disappointed in kia and think there should be some sort of class action lawsuit or recourse. After reading all of these complains that are the same, I am shocked kia has not taken care of their customers.

When I brake, the braking lights don't turn on. I have checked the fuses and the lights bulbs and they are fine. Yet when I brake, the brake lights don't turn on.
The driver side taillights keep blowing out. Replaced the driver side 3 times in less than a year. They have bulb grease and are not melted. Then the same side brake lights go out. The driver side led headlight daytime running light is also out. Fuses have been checked.
I have had to replace the rear brake lights 2 times in less than 2 years. The keep going out.
I purchased this kia in 2014, since then, I have had to repeatedly replace the headlights, tail / brake lights and the license plate lights. The plastic part of the connectors have dried out and are breaking into pieces due to the wiring getting too hot, as the parts that are left are now starting to melt. I have owned several different cars and I have never had to replace the lights as much as in this car. Also, another issue is the driver side seat belt doesn't want to unlatch. I will be parked and it would sometimes take about 2 min for it to unlatch. Sometimes I would think it wasn't ever going to unlatch and I would be trapped.
Tl the contact owns a 2017 kia Forte. While the contact's son was driving the vehicle, he noticed that the rear passenger side brake and the third brake lights were out. There were no warning indicators illuminated. Shawnee mission Ford (11501 shawnee mission pkwy, shawnee, KS 66203) was informed of the failure and replaced the lights, but the failure recurred. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 35,000.
Brake light stay on all the time even when the car is shut off.

My brake lights stay on at all times while car is turned on.
I am the second owner of this vehicle which I purchased at 21,000 and it now has around 65,000. In the last three years I have had to replace several different lights multiple times. It began shortly after I purchased it with replacing rear driver's side brake light three times in a six month period. From there I have replaced the license plate lights twice the other brake light twice. When replacing the brake light in the back window, the socket was melted. This past year I replaced the driver side headlight and a couple big months later the passenger side. Now the driver side has gone out again.
My seat belt driver side will not click into the buckle which makes it hard not be pulled over and very unsafe. As well as, my lights on the inside of the car do not turn off they are always illuminated once starting the car. My brake lights go out every so often, as well as a few other electrical problems. Also my brakes sometimes won't come up off the floor or will stay in the upright position even while being pressed. This is incredibly unsafe.

I keep having to replace fog lamps, brake lights and headlamps. The brake lights have to be replaced frequently. The component you plug the bulb into keeps getting hot and melting sometimes causing the bulb to break. I have replaced the brake lights 8 times within the last 6 months and the fog lamps 4 times in the last 6 months.
During month of December 2017 discovered all brake lights (total of 3 bulbs) burned out. The center top brake light assembly discovered melted (self replaced with new ones). Three weeks ago, right brake light assembly and bulb both burned out and melted. I replaced the light bulb and used electrician tape to hold socket and bulb in place.
Right brake light was out took car to midas to have bulb replaced, where the melted light socket was discovered. Took car kia dealership the same day 9/11/2017 to find out if there was a recall on this item and was informed there was not. The kia advisor jack told me that they where able to replace the bulb but had to get approval to replace the whole socket. On 9/12 I was informed that dpsm denied the request to cover the part. Pictures sent to dpsm by kia dealership.
Center mount stop light assembly - the brake light burned out and burned the assembly. I smelled something burning from my vehicle and when I checked the vehicle found this light had burned through the assembly. This burning of the center assembly shorted out my brake lights which left me without brakes. The mechanic stated that looking at the center assembly as well as the other brake light ports-there was a surge of some sort which caused this to happen. The areas in the brake light sockets were black. I was driving when I smelled the burning in the car and thus far no other electrical or light areas have been affected. I thought this should be reported in the event kia trunks start burning.
Takata recall: my brake lights from both driver and passenger sides are always gong out. I constantly have to replace bulbs. I've even taken to a mechanic and had the entire lighting wires brand new and still have this issue.
The exterior lights on this vehicle need replacing every few weeks along with the cruise control not disengaging when brakes are applied and gear shift does not engage. The brake lights will light when the interior light control is in the off position but when the car is on and lights have been turned on, the brake lights do not light. When it first began happening the car was taken to earnhardt kia in phoenix and they said they could find nothing wrong with the lighting system or electrical system. In the course of three years there have been 12-15 lightbulbs replaced including a headlamp.
The contact owns a 2012 kia Forte. The contact stated that while driving approximately 75 mph, the cruise control failed to operate as the esc warning light illuminated. The contact mentioned that both tail lights also failed. The vehicle was towed to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the brake sensor switch light needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was repaired. The approximate failure and current mileage was 16,600.
The brake light bulbs are burning our very 3 weeks with the plastic bulb connector getting very , very hot.
