1 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2013 Kia Motor Forte

Failure Date: 11/30/2020

I saw that kia recalled the same year and model of this car for faulty engines which may catch fire due to engine malfunction, rod bearing failure and fuel leak but, only for the 2. 4l engine. When technically speaking the 2. 0l engine which is not recalled is nearly identical both internally and externally besides cubic inches. In fact when ordering parts for the 2. 0l engine on kia's sites and oem parts distributors, the part numbers are the same for the intake manifold, fuel delivery systems, internal bearings, the only variance in manufacturing and design are the crankshafts, camshafts and oil pumps due to the difference in displacement. Furthermore my car recently began leaking fuel from the fuel delivery tube going from the fuel pump to the rail which is the same part number as that on the 2. 4 and same design and routing. Due to the close proximity of the exhaust the fuel could have ignited if not caught just the same as the complaints about the 2. 4l which prompted the recall. However the 2. 0l owners are not protected and are at the same risk.

2 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2014 Kia Motor Forte

Failure Date: 02/21/2019

Engine knocking and they replaced under warranty. Car had 86,000 miles. Drove car to work next day and it caught on fire while driving home on busy highway. Kia corp knows of a problem with fuel pump and lines needing to be replaced once engine is replaced but failed to let their dealerships be aware of this issue. Also why is the Forte not on recall list as many kia Fortes are also catching on fire due to engine/ engine repairs.

4 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2010 Kia Motor Forte

Failure Date: 09/11/2016

On two occasions now the kia Forte has stalled with the original fuel sending unit located in the fuel tank. First occurrence was in September 11 2016 (~55,000 miles) where car was parked for ~30 minutes while shopping and would not start-investigation found the fuel pump connector within the fuel tank got hot enough to melt the plastic and disconnect the positive terminal (see images attached). This is a serious issue and kia dealerships in the chicagoland area would not do any warranty repair or replacement. After repairing the connection and re-socketing the terminals the pump was able to work for another year until the second incident. On August 29 2017 (~75,000 miles) the very same connector again within the assembly for the fuel sending unit failed while in motion on a residential road causing the engine to stall which in turn caused loss of power steering. Again, the connector for providing power to the fuel pump opened causing the engine to be starved of fuel. The unit is no longer repairable as the open circuit is occurring within the right-angle pass through the metal divider of the internal portion of the fuel tank. The entire unit required replacement even though all other elements on the assembly are working. Other owners have reported this exact issue however the manufacturer refuses to acknowledge the possibility of a recall. This is an obvious safety mechanism issue and could cause accidents due to abrupt loss of steering, ability to accelerate, and fire hazard.

5 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2014 Kia Motor Forte

Failure Date: 08/28/2014

On Thursday, August 28th, 2014 at around 7:45am, my 2014 kia Forte stalled in the middle of the road as I was driving. It was a most terrifying experience as I was in the middle of the road, in the turning lane under an overpass. I had to wait over an hour for kia roadside assistance and therefore the police had to call in a separate tow company so that I would not continue to illegally block traffic. I was advised that the problem was due to the fuel pump causing the 15 amp fuse to blow.

6 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2010 Kia Motor Forte

Failure Date: 05/07/2014

Turned vehicle on, put in reverse, as I pressed gas to back out of driveway and first started moving, the vehicle died. I was half in road and tried to restart car and it would not start, engine wont run. Had to push car to side of roadway for safety. Called roadside assistance through my insurance to tow car to my fathers garage. The car is not pumping fuel to the engine. It is not the fuel pump, but a faulty fuel pump assembly system and the whole system needs to be replaced. The wire harness in the fuel pump assembly is a bad connection causing it to overheat and damage the terminal. Called kia of middletown NY where car was purchased and they will not release any information regarding any recalls or warranty information on my vehicle even with me providing all information on my vehicle unless I now tow the vehicle to middletown NY and its physically there. They do not seem to take the complaint seriously.
