2018 kia Forte, purchased certified used June 2022, will randomly go into eco or sport mode on startup or while the vehicle is in motion. Vehicle is not equipped with drive mode control buttons, indicating that eco/sport modes are not supposed to be active feature. While I vaguely remember the mode change occurring during previous two years of my ownership, the first noticeable incident in 2024 was of the vehicle going into eco mode (green indicator light) happen upon startup the morning of 5/26/24. This was noticeable due to the fact that the eco mode slow down caused me to nearly be rear-ended by a semi while merging onto the freeway. The vehicle remained stuck in eco mode for several weeks. On the morning of 6/10/24, while driving, vehicle began to sputter/hesitate and eco light blinked on/off then switched to sport (yellow indicator light) mode and vehicle surged forward. Vehicle then switched back to eco mode and it remained in this mode until the morning of 6/13/24, at which point it went into sport mode upon startup. It went back into normal mode (no indicator light) upon startup the evening of 6/13/24. Vehicle was inspective by selling dealership 6/15/24 and they could not duplicate the issue nor pull trouble codes. Remained in normal mode until the evening of 7/15/24, at which point it switched back to eco mode. Dealership has been notified. It should be known that eco mode slows down the vehicle response to conserve fuel, sport mode speeds it up. While these features can be useful when wanted and properly installed with the appropriate controls, the randomness in which these features engage make them a safety hazard, especially considering the control buttons are not installed. Based on NHTSA VIN information the trim package of my vehicle, lx (which kia America has yet to confirm even though I have made multiple inquiries), drive mode is an optional feature which was not activated by the original/first owner.

Started my car it was making a tapping noise. I tried driving home the noise got worse and my car didn’t want to accelerate very much. I noticed a recall for other 2018 kia Fortes as mine is doing exactly what others are but my car isn’t included in the recall. I think the recall outlook is bigger than imagined.
I was slowly pulling into a parking spot with my foot on the brake and the vehicle suddenly accelerated. I hit the brake hard and the car eventually stopped but it did go onto the sidewalk before stopping. In the past, when I started the car, the engine would sometimes rev too much and I had to step on the gas while in park to get it to stop, but this is the first time it suddenly accelerated while driving. I am contacting the dealer about the problem tomorrow so it has not been inspected yet. I read online that other kia models have this problem and that a recall is being considered. There were no warning lamps before the problem occurred. My car is available for inspection.
The speedometer does not work. The car will not accelerate. I always have belt problems.
There are significant idle issues (rpm’s shoot up & drop down irregularly while in park) and the car shut off while in park following irregular rpm movement, but was not exhibiting this behavior while previously parked elsewhere. I sent it in to be checked but nothing could be reproduced. A few weeks later the car began doing what felt like engine braking (in a manual vehicle) while I was letting the car roll forward in a traffic jam (foot off of pedals for short moment). A friend witnessed a the rpm’s rising and falling dramatically while sitting in the parked car. Later the car began shutting off at low speeds while my foot was on the gas pedal. All of the lights on the dash appeared to be on and the car wouldn’t crank again until the 2nd attempt and only stayed on when pushing the gas pedal. I sent it back again but it could not be reproduced so nothing was done. A few days ago I noticed it was idling weird again(up and down dramatically). Today when pulling into my neighborhood my car began to accelerate on its own. - I pushed the gas lightly to make the turn from a stop and took my foot off of both pedals in a slow transition to the brake. While my foot was up in transition the car accelerated moderately quickly before I immediately pressed the brake my foot was already over. The rpm’s went up drastically (you could hear them). I let go of the brake and the car began to rev high again followed by my braking once more. I turned the car onto my street and pressed the gas as lightly as possible and the car jolted forward before I braked hard out of fear of the children in front of me darting in front of my car as they often do on my residential street. I let the car roll to my driveway (a very short distance) before needing to push the gas again to get into the short driveway. The car jolted again almost hitting the closed garage door. I genuinely feel as though had this happened anywhere outside of my neighborhood my life would have been in danger if not lost.

Car took off. Zoomed. Out of control, my safety was put at risk since car speeded off. No one else safety was at risk since no one was around. The car is currently at a collision shop. Car has been inspected by insurance and being fixed. No warning signs and air bags did not come out.
I am writing to express serious concerns about the safety and performance of my kia vehicle. Over the past few months, my car has been exhibiting abnormal behavior, jeopardizing the safety of myself and other road users. One of the most alarming issues is the unpredictable acceleration and deceleration of my vehicle, especially on the highway. There have been numerous instances where it failed to respond to acceleration while changing lanes, putting me in stressful situations where I feared a potential collision. Even more troubling, my car has shut off unexpectedly multiple times during both city driving and while navigating driveways and hills. This sudden engine shutdown has exposed me to hazardous situations and increased the risk of accidents. There is also a loud knocking sound coming from the car, accompanied by sluggish driving. To my dismay, the vehicle now starts and immediately cuts off, forcing me to wait for a period of time and multiple attempts to restart the engine before it finally starts. Seeking a resolution, I took my vehicle to the kia service center, where they advised me that I needed a new engine, attributing the problem to sludge build-up. However, I maintain a diligent oil change schedule every three months and can provide evidence of this fact. Despite filing a claim with kia of America, they regrettably denied my request for assistance in obtaining a new engine, placing the financial burden solely on my shoulders. This not only presents a financial hardship for me but also underscores a broader issue with kia vehicles' quality and reliability. I am deeply concerned about the safety of kia vehicles, and I believe that they should be subject to a thorough investigation and, if necessary, a recall. I understand that kia has experienced problems with design of this or similar engines, causing recalls of those products, and I request NHTSA to investigate these concerns regarding the 2016 kia Forte. My car is available to inspect once more.
While I am driving it is hard shifting and idling high, sometimes it doesn't want to pick up speed when starting from a stop. The wheels locked up going down a off ramp. There are no warning lights or anything on the dash. I will have it checked Monday but this started out of the blue. I have had regular maintenance on the vehicle and have all my receipts for proof. This is a serious issue especially with the wheels not functioning right and speed control is fluctuating.
I've had it looked at by a kia dealership and they said I let it run out of oil and burned up my engine. My asc warranty won't cover it. I had no idea. I've got proof from valvoline where I always get my oil changes and proves I did it regularly. I had no oil leak signs on the pavement. Your recall #sc210 which I just found out about talks about exactly what happened to me. I really don't think it was my fault and it should be covered. I had no indication that something was wrong till this happened. I've had no problems since I bought the car in November 2021till now.
Good morning, I want to report extreme safety concerns about my kia Forte gt - line 2023. When I first came home with the car days later the car shut off in the middle of the street while driving just one house up from my house. I attempted to turn it back on and the car would not turn back on and it automatically proceeded to call roadside assistance. I immediately informed the dealership. The car often hesitates, fails to shift and turns completely off. Last Sunday on December 11, 2022 I was about to get on the roosevelt boulevard expressway while I was on a street which is a hill that leads me to the expressway going about a reasonable distance. My car proceeded to roll backwards on the hill. I immediately thought to myself this is a huge safety concern. The incident that occurred on December 13,2022 in front of my house was a dealbreaker for me. I was moving my car from my home driveway , I put my car in reverse and moved my steering wheel the opposite to go right with my foot slightly on the gas my car would not move. The transmission light , battery lights and other lights came on. My car then said reverse, neutral then reverse again. I did not change gears to neutral. Still my car would not move. Shortly after I put my foot on the brake because I saw a white car speed behind me very fast. I kept my foot on the brake until the coast was clear and the white car disappeared. After that my car immediately goes backwards at full speed ( jumps out of gear accelerated then stalled) and hits a parked car which damages the back of my car. I called kia roadside assistance because I was turned off by the car and I did not feel like it was safe to drive and it needed to be towed. The incident happened in front of my house but it could have happened anywhere and cause even more damage to me and someone else. I talked to torey trolio on the phone a day after my car arrived at the dealership and she immediately stated that kia can not fix any damages. My car needs to go to a.

Vehicle has issues where transmission actuator will stop functioning causing sudden loss of acceleration. Was doing 70 mph in expressway and vehicle stopped accelerating. Issue has occurred two times, both times being serviced by dealership, after receiving the vehicle back, issue still persists, vehicle lost acceleration suddenly when turning into a intersection.

The transmission has had multiple catastrophic transmissions failures while driving. The transmission does not engage and the car cannot accelerate, which has created severe safety issues, especially on the freeway. We were almost hit by two semi-trucks this last time because the transmission would not engage and would only rev high while traveling on the turnpike in an 80 mph zone and the car decelerated quickly due to lack of engagement and the rpm gauge just would redline with no movement to the wheels. This has happened several time before but this was the one that scared us the most. . . Each event was scary. The first transmission failure happened at around 20k miles and if the transmission is replaced this time it would be the third replacement transmission within only 10k miles since the care only has 30k miles on it. I have talked with the dealership and kia consumer assistance multiple time with no resolutions. They are obviously aware of the issues with this transmission and just keep making promises that never happen and just keep us in a consistent state of a "runaround. ".

I got this car in January, it's only October and my speed doesn't accelerate. When I step on the gas pedal there is a huge kick and my rpm goes from under one to 4 or 5 to get to 20mph. I noticed that I could change the drive to d1 and d2 but when driving and going over 30mph my car is in d6. I have yet to find a solution. No warning lights have come on yet but I don't want it to get to that point before having the car for a year.
Randomly the car refused to accelerate, rpms would not go past 3k. It happened it different time points of a drive. There was never any check engine light. Mechanic drove the vehicle and ran a check on it and said with out a warning light there isn’t much I can do. Suggested replace crank shaft sensor. There was no change to the point the entire car died while driving up hill with no shoulder and a very large truck behind. My children would be dead right now if there had been another vehicle in the lane next to me I was able to barely to get the cat into. The car started back up after 30 mins. Was looked at again, informed it could have something to do with the engine tick, still no warning lights. The car stalls, jerks like a misfire and had refused to keep a stable speed while on the interstate.

I received a recall letter stating that my car is part of a recall involving a defect in the engine that could cause an engine compartment fire and increases the risk of injury. I took my car to the dealership to address the recall. The mechanics at the dealership stated that my vehicle would need a new engine and that the engine will fail. Kia manufacturer is refusing to replace the engine even after their mechanics have told me countless times I have brought the car in that it needs a new engine. I have had to bring my car to and from the dealership 3-4 times now in the last 3 weeks after my check engine light keeps turning on and flashing continuously and my car won't accelerate like normal and will not drive past 40 mph. I have to floor the gas pedal just to move the car. Before I received this recall letter and took my car in to get looked at, I had no issues with my car accelerating and have never had a check engine light but now all of a sudden my car doesn't drive. The dealership damaged my car and are denying any wrongdoing. This is extremely dangerous to have my car in this condition I'm not willing to risk my family's safety or my own safety because the dealership won't take responsibility and the manufacturer won't go through with the repairs that need to be done for safety reasons and replace my engine. The manufacturer is not listening to their mechanics that have told me the engine is guaranteed to fail. My vehicle is not drivable and kia will not do anything to fix the problem. I have no reliable transportation and the dealership will not give me a loaner car to drive for the time either.
I have lost power pulling out into traffic, car has lost all function when pulling out into traffic, 1 time when pulling out of a parking lot the car locked the wheels and slammed it onto a curb. Every time the screen display in the car glitches. I have been going down the road and the emergency braking applied for no reason. Had to replace the battery was going down the road and the car shut off (at night) kia has had this car multiple times and has no idea what is wrong with it. I filed a report with kia cause I want my money back and this car should not be sold to an individual until they figure it out and fix it. Last week the mirrors quit working as well but they said it needed a master switch. Already had some kind of computer recall and took it in to be replaced. Car still scares me to drive it. I have not heard back from kia and was told it does not qualify for the lemon law as they seem to have no idea how to fix it much less get it to duplicate for a diagnosis. But the stalling, glitching and loosing power is almost always at take off. One time I just knew I was going to end up in the hospital or morgue as it was a very busy highway at rush hour. 3 times was on take off and when I was making a turn. Sometimes the screen/radio won't even work or connect to any devices either. Kia told me to record it happening, they must be crazy it happens so fast all I can concentrate on not getting injured or killed or injuring or killing anyone also when we first took the car home I noticed a banging under the car like something hitting under the floor board took it to kia a few times for that as well and since they couldn't duplicate it they said I probably have a something under the seats doing it. But I told them that made no sense cause could feel it under my feet while driving it.
I was on my way to work and noticed my car started to shake/vibrate uncontrollably while driving. It wouldn't let me accelerate past 40mph. It stopped when at a standstill. Smelled an odor coming from the car. I called kia and told them what has happened. Car was towed to the nearest dealer and I'm waiting for the results now.
I was stopped at a stop light with my foot on the brake. My vehicle lunged forward with my foot still on the brake so I pulled the emergency brake up and my vehicle stopped, thankfully I did nothing hit anyone or anything. When the light turned green I drove forward and my engine light turned on; after no more than 30 seconds, the light turned off. All has been fine since, however I looked up this problem and apparently kia has a serious problem with cars lunging forward and causing major accidents. I honestly am terrified for this to happen to me.
Before exiting but during departure of parking lot for apartment building keeping brake pedal fully depressed with transmission geared in reverse the vehicle quickly and unexpectedly took off and sped out of control backwards until stopped by sudden impact with a tree resulting in numerous bodily injuries to traumatic mentally anguished driver and 2 passengers, 1 of which was seated in the backseat collision side resulting in total loss of vehicle according to drivers insurance policy provider state farm. Tl- the contact owns a 2020 kia Forte. The contact stated that while attempting to get out of the garage the contact placed the vehicle in park and removed themselves to the vehicle in order to open their garage door when the vehicle began to reverse hitting the contact and the garage door. The contact received injuries to their left shoulder, face, elbow, left knee, right leg, and right foot. Medical attention was not needed. A police report was not filed. The vehicle had not been towed. The contact was able to get into the vehicle and turn on the vehicle. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer (merchant logo spitzer kia cleveland service center 3414 brookpark rd, cleveland, OH 44134; (216) 259-7080) who were unable to duplicate the failure and referred them to speak to the manufacturer. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue and opened a case regarding the matter. The approximate failure mileage was 2553. Gl.
My 2012 kia Forte 2. 0l engine keeps making a ticking, knocking noise. Took it in for service and the dealer said that they could not locate the issue, but that I may just need an oil change. Oil was severely low, even though oil was just changed. There were no leaks identified. Also, my car has a jerking issue when accelerating. The car sometimes gets thrown forward without a check engine light being thrown. This especially happens on the interstate, or if the car has been driven for longer than 20 minutes. This is an extreme safety issue.
Tl- the contact owns a 2019 kia Forte. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds rpms would rev up to approximately 4,000 rpms or more, the contact stated that they would have to intentionally slow down the vehicle to get the rpms to slow down. The contact stated that while idle at the red light the vehicle accelerated forward unintentionally. The contact pulled over into a nearby parking lot where the vehicle stalled, however, the tires continued to spin without moving the vehicle forward. The vehicle was towed to the dealership (gene messer kia address: 6006 19th st, lubbock, TX 79407 phone: (806) 776-5600) who diagnosed that the transmission had to be replaced. The vehicle had been repaired. The contact stated that after the repair, the contact had the brakes pressed the vehicle jolted forward. The contact returned the vehicle to the dealer mentioned above. The vehicle had not received a second diagnosing or repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The approximate failure mileage was 24,000. Gl.
I tooken my 2017 kia Forte in to the dealership countless occasions for the same issue and still with no avail. As I'm driving the car all of a sudden the car starts shaking the engine light goes on then the car either shuts off on its own then got to wait it out for it to start. If I go to turn on the ac the car also shuts off. I've almost gotten hit due to the car un reliability.
My 18 year old daughter was the driver. The car was parked on a residential street, facing the direction she wanted to go. The street went downhill in front of her. She started the car. When she began to drive, the steering felt very stiff, she could barely steer. She started driving anyway. Then the brakes did not work. In fact, she said that pressing the brake seemed to make the car go faster (or this could have just been the effect of the hill). So she accelerated down a substantial hill with no braking power. At the bottom of the street (approx. 1/4 mile) is a t-intersection. She crossed the street, the car went up onto the curb opposite, proceeded through some bushes, knocked down a fence as it went between a tree and a brick wall, ran into a bird bath, and then came to a stop in someone's yard. Fortunately the car stopped before it got to the house itself. Damage included: both bumpers, both driver-side tires/wheels/hubcaps, and extensive damage underneath including transmission. Driver and passenger were (amazingly) not injured.
About a week or two ago while going up a hill I noticed the car trying to stall out. It has begun to do more frequently now while driving and while in idle and/or park also. You cannot hear the car knock but it's as if you can feel it trying too. One instance I was in a turning lane and the car literarily tried to cut off in the middle of traffic. The rpm's dropped and car just felt real shaky and jumpy. Total episodes approximately in about 2 weeeks I would say are close to maybe 10? the engine light came in at first instance when I was going up a hill and has never gone off. But the proble has not been corrected but seems to have gotten worse.
Everytime I am on the highway, then either come to a complete stop or try to turn to go up a hill. It won't kick in to gear. Thd rpms go way up and it almost stops running. Its been happening like for a week now. Its getting worse. My headlights also seem like they are pointed to low to the ground. Please help I use my car for work. Thank you.
I own a 2014 kia Forte ex. . When I first got my car I notice a lightly ticking noise coming from the engine a lot of people told me the ticking sound was normal on new engines . It seems to get a bit louder as time when in. . My daughter and I were driving when we notice the sound got much louder and a slapping sounds coming from the engine and my car loosing power and also a burning smoke smell getting much heavier to the point the car just shut off and quit it on us. The dash also got very hot at this point . . We called for tow service and got the car back home . . . Was sure what was happening with my car . . Thank you !.
Tl the contact owns a 2014 kia Forte. The contact stated that the air bags and check engine warning lights were illuminated. The contact stated that the vehicle would not exceed 40 mph with the speedometer inoperable. The contact activated the hazard lights and drove slowly until the vehicle regained normal functionality. The contact took the vehicle to ray brandt kia (1884 westbank expy, harvey, la 70058, (504) 356-7072) where the vehicle was repaired under NHTSA campaign number: 20v750000 (engine) however, the warning lights remained illuminated. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 90,000.
