1 Engine Noise problem

Failure Date: 01/04/2021

2013 kia Optima in August 2019 starting stalling out and wouldn't start. Then my engine starting knocking. My car would still start but would only go 20-30 mph while make knocking engine noises. Took my kia Optima to the kia dealership. They replaced the engine due to recall. But didn't replace the starter, after I got my car back my starter went out completely! my car won't start. Dec 2020 took my kia to kia dealership. They told me it was my starter. I have to pay $800 for starter replacement. I told them I had the extended warranty for the engine recall. Found out kia replaced 5 out 7 starters when they replaced the engine due to recall. But they won't replace my starter because it's been over a year from the engine replacement. I told them my cars been parked the entire year 2020 due to covid and I thought I just needed a battery. I bought a battery but my car still would start. I know my starter was damaged due to my engine and oil leak due to recall & kia should replace the starter under the engine warranty for the recall. My cars still at the dealership and I don't have $800 to fix the starter. My steering wheel was shaking and making noises, I paid kia to fix it 2020 now I found there's a cuff link recall and kia will reimburse me. I keep having trouble with 2013 kia Optima! I will never buy a kia again! buyer beware!.

4 Engine Noise problem

Failure Date: 12/11/2019

On 12/11/2019 , I was driving my 2013 kia Optima sx turbo when suddenly it started to sputter, as I was attempting to pull over the engine completely shut off/ seized in the middle of the road. . I was forced to put the car in neutral and push it onto the nearest sidewalk ramp onto a storage parking lot. . After that the engine wouldnt turn. . The battery wasnt dead because the radio, lights , dashboard would all turn on , but the engine would not turn over, it would not even make a sound as if it were trying . . I towed it to the nearest mechanic to see what was going on and they said the engine froze/ seized and they found metallic particles in the oil. . . I did some research and it looks like some kia Optima engines have a certain recall for premature bearing wear and tear inside of them that causes the engine to seize, this sounds exactly like what happened to my kia . . . The mechanic also advised me that there was a shortage that caused my computer to burn out. . . Not sure if related but the issue with my engine definitely sounds like a common recall issue with 2011-2014 kia Optimas . . . I looked up my VIN # nothing pops up but when I search for general info on kia recalls , engine seizing is one of them. . Please advise on what to do. .

5 Engine Noise problem

6 Engine Noise problem

Failure Date: 11/02/2018

Engine started making noises and decreased acceleration then sounded horrible and shut down. I'd really like to get the car fixed. I don't have 3000 dollars to buy a engine I still owe 16,000 on the car. Yes they got me.

Failure Date: 10/18/2018

Engine started making noise in the engine while driving on interstate. Engine exploded, car was in gulfed in smoke and flames. I pulled the car to the the side of the road and got out as fast as I could. Total burn down and total loss of my car in less than 10 minutes. I have video and pictures.

8 Engine Noise problem

Failure Date: 08/26/2018

Diving at 40 mph. Come to a stop at red light and engine begins making a slight noise. No warning gauges or warning light go off. Start driving to drive again and 2 blocks later a very loud mechanical bang and the engine shut down. Would not restart. Oil light went out using the starter while trying to restart. Never got the engine restarted. Car is now at kia of lansdale after I had to pay for towing. I perform courier services to us treasury dept and us attorney in philadelphia area. I need this car back desperately. Last oil change was 2000 miles ago with full synthetic oil. Always have used full synthetic. When I got the car pulled over and got out the smell of oil burning was clearly evident to myself and another gentleman who stopped to see if I needed any help. I believe this is an absolute recall related issue.

9 Engine Noise problem

Failure Date: 06/13/2017

In April 2014 I purchased a pre-owned 2013 kia Optima from loman auto sales in woodbridge, NJ. Over the last year the car had 2 or 3 instances when it wouldn't start. I would have it 'jumped' and it would work fine again. On June 13, 2017 I was driving with my daughter in a residential area when the car made a strange noise, the dashboard begin to flicker, and then the car shut off. This was the first time that this happened, but I figured perhaps the car just needed a jump. I called my family mechanic and he attempted multiple times to jump the car; with no success. As he began observing the car he stated that it wasn't the battery but it could possibly be the engine. He advised me to contact kia because he had a customer whose car recently did the very same thing (Hyundai sonata) and was advised that there was a recall on her car due to the engine. I immediately contacted gateway kia in north brunswick, NJ. I spoke to the manager there and he arranged for the car to be towed to their location. For the next two days it was a bunch of back and forth calls being made to the dealer. I began to get annoyed especially after telling them that the car wouldn't jump, they insisted that before they could diagnose the engine I needed to replace the battery. Against my better judgement I purchased a battery and brought it to them (a huge inconvenience) all for them to tell me it wasn't the battery but indeed the engine. All of this time I had never received any information from kia regarding a recall. However, they did manage to send me dozens of letters in the mail regarding my warranty. It wasn't until after I had already contacted kia that I received a recall letter in the mail (2 days after the car was towed). Strangely the letter was dated "may 30, 2017. " this is completely unacceptable. I am just grateful that I was not on the highway; which is where I was headed.

10 Engine Noise problem

Failure Date: 11/22/2016

Took car to dealer a month ago for siren noises as I excelerated. They told me it was my turbo casing that came open and that they closed it for me. I called them an hour later after I had left to tell them it was still making the noise they said it will and should make the noise. Took the car back today for same issue and for the engine light being in now for a 6 days. Now they tell me I have sludge in my engine and will blow at any time so I need a new engine and will let me know if warranty will cover it or not. I'm not even at 60k miles yet but they say I'm almost expired for warranty. I bought this brand new end of January 2013. The noise was happening when stationary, and when excelerating to drive and speed up with flow of traffic.
