1 Transmission Not Go Into Gear problem of the 2012 Kia Motor Optima

Failure Date: 01/03/2021

Transmission has a hard pull when it down shifts from third gear to second gear and a harder pull on first gear this is a automatic transmission. In regular gears going in drive would actually do fine I noticed a week later when I was out driving for about an hour that the car would not go past second gear so I pulled off the road and had my car towed. The vehicle has never had any dashboard lights come on currently my car is in limp mode and will only go in reverse takes a few seconds to initiate an engage to go into first gear. Dealership does not really want to look at the vehicle if it does not have a check engine light code I have no idea what is wrong with this transmission I have 168,000 miles. It should give you some type of warning that something is going on with your transmission but it does not even light up on your dashboard if you go to press the pedal to accelerate it does not want to accelerate I just recently had my catalytic converter changed out so I know it is not that the gears on the transmission will not go past second gear now it is in what they consider limp mode or default mode someone really needs to look at the transmission on all the 2012 kia Optimas I have been seeing a lot of issues with these cars the lights that are considered as the low beams are not very bright either I just recently had those changed and new ones put in they do not give you enough light if you're driving at night this is a safety hazard.

2 Transmission Not Go Into Gear problem of the 2012 Kia Motor Optima

Failure Date: 11/02/2019

The car will not accelerate at a safe time frame. For example if I need to cross a busy street. I have to wait until there are absolutely no cars coming because when I accelerate my engine revs but doesn't move. I've been almost rear ended several times because the transmission will not go into gear. The engine will hit 8 or 9 thousand rpm then the transmission decides to catch and throw my head into the seat. Which if there is a car in front of me I have to be careful not to rear end them because of the sudden acceleration.

3 Transmission Not Go Into Gear problem of the 2013 Kia Motor Optima

Failure Date: 06/01/2019

I had the engine replaced around 85000 miles, at dealer with recall. Now at 140000 the transmission is making a bad grinding noise when accelerating and slowing down, noise starts about 15 mph all the way to highway speeds. At highway speeds if I put the car in neutral, the sound goes away. As I put car back in drive the grinding noise reappears. The noise does not change while gear changes, only when put in neutral.

6 Transmission Not Go Into Gear problem of the 2011 Kia Motor Optima

Failure Date: 04/11/2011

On 4/11/11, we were driving to work and had gone four miles from our house, when we thought we had hit a deer! the car made a very loud sound and lurched violently, at highway speed, frightening us both. The lurching was so violent that it may well have caused other damage. We were extremely fortunate not to have crashed. We then found that the car would not shift gear. The transmission had gone out of our 2011 kia Optima ex. We bought the kia new at o¿brien auto park in champaign, illinois, on 1/8/11. The car had 3600 miles on it at the time of the catastrophic failure. This was our first kia purchase, and we are very disappointed. Needless to say, we were shocked by this dangerous occurrence! we very easily could have had tragic consequences for us and our fellow commuters. We are no longer confident in this vehicle. We find this totally unsatisfactory and asked kia to replace our vehicle with an identical one. Kia refused, basically saying ¿we don¿t own it anymore¿. They did replace the transmission.

7 Transmission Not Go Into Gear problem of the 2001 Kia Motor Optima

Failure Date: 03/10/2008

Car hesitated once or twice upon acceleration, could not recreate problem. 1 week ago, while trying to pull out of the garage, car would not go into gear. When car finally went into gear car would not move unless accelerator pedal was pushed to the floor, and even then barely any movement. Took car to kia dealership, three days later dealership called, the transmission needs to be replaced. Dealership said it had to "fight" with the factory rep to have the transmission covered under the warranty, even though I provided proof of maintenance. Dealership ordered new transmission, when prepping car for the new transmission a "hole was found in the subframe", that is not covered under warranty and the transmission cannot be put in the car with the hole in the subframe at a cost of $1,800. 00. Dealership cannot explain how a garage kept 7 year old car has a hole in the subframe.
