Check Engine Light On Problems of Kia Motor RIO

Car hardly ever indicated low oil. Had to add oil constantly between oil changes. No problems until the car got over 100k miles. Check engine light came on we checked the oil it was 2 quarts low. Added oil engine started knocking. Mechanic said we had too much oil. Got an engine flush and another oil change engine was still knocking and oil was very dirty. Mechanic indicated this is a common problem with most kias with the gdi engines. 2 weeks after oil change the car started smoking and was almost completely out of oil. Took it to another mechanic who said the engine should be recalled and he didnt understand why it wasnt. He said my engine was doing what all the other engines have done on the other models recalled. I called the local kia dealership who told me that I have had the car since 2014 and it was just old. They wont be recalling. I took good care of this car hardly ever went too far past an oil change this shouldn't have happened and I had to get a new car. This should be recalled like all the other kias it's unfair they sell cars that break once you go past 100k miles.

I was driving my 2014 kia Rio to work at approximately 7 am this morning with no noticeable problems until halfway to work which would be approx. 30 miles into my 52 mile drive. After I made a turn from a stop light, I noticed a weird smell as I drove and decided to stop the vehicle and check it out. 1st, I glanced in my rear view mirror, checking for any other cars before I pulled over, then everything else followed so quickly: saw smoke coming from the rear of my car, immediately hitting the brakes, which were not working now, smoke coming from the hood of the engine, using emergency brake, and the finally coming to a stop where I got out quickly as possible as the engine was engulfing the car in flames. I have no clue as to what has caused this. Note: there were no indications, such as check engine light, coolant temp, or any dash indicators, just weird smell and loss of brakes. Driving approximately 40 mph, car hesitates to accelerate. Check engine light came on. Had car checked, diagnostic says catalytic converter is not operating properly. I had this part replaced less than 4 months ago! now the same problem is occurring again!.

Sitting at a red light in city traffic, pressed the gas to go when green light occurred and car stalled. Lights, power windows, radio all still worked, but the engine was dead. Let car sit for 30 minutes, it started up completely fine. Car stalled again at red light while at idle in city traffic. Let car sit for a few moments, started it up and drove home without incident. No check engine light, no battery light, no low oil light. Took car to neighborhood mechanic, was told nothing was wrong. Battery and alternator were in great working order, ground connections were fine. They took car on 20 mile ride with no stalling. Took car to dealership, they have no idea what is wrong either. Told me to come back when I have a check engine light, other than that, they can not help me. Car continues to stall while idle with no check engine light.

About 3 mths ago started using oil 3 qts extra the went to a qt a week, now using a quart every other day, have had people check. Cant find out where oil is going, have parked it, also, airbag light came on about 4mths ago, kia Rio has 114,000. The caliber froze up at 88,000 the brake pads kept wearing on left side, now the right starting to wearing more. . . I have the gold autoguard warranty up to 120,000 with hendrick Chevrolet, took it in on appt. Day n time, had 30 cars ahead. I have also learned. Carfax on cars are not true, this car was noted with no damage or wrecks, but I have seen on left side of car, marks of junk yard parts, even on back window. Reason for parking car bc its costing to much for oil, also my grandbaby is always with me in this 2012 kia Rio, this car isnt worth her life, no car is. . . Oh on carfax it state's its an ex then on second page it state's a lx, which understand mite be type error but when it state's no damage or wreck, thats a big error. Never got check oil light not one time, new it wnor a check engine light, only light was and is the airbag light.

Ignition coils. Ever since I bought my kia in 2015 I have had to replace the ignition coils every 3-6 months. At first, when it was still under factory warranty, the dealership kept telling me they cannot find anything wrong with the car even though it would jump and even shut off on me when idling. It took 3 months of me taking the car back and forth to the kia dealership before the figured out what was going on with my car because the check engine light never came on. It turned out to be the ignition coils. Once they were replaced everything was fine. On top of this, I was so stressed out about my car that it made me physically ill and gave me a rash all over my body (I have medical records to prove it) and once the issue was fixed, all of my physical ailments disappeared. Since then, I have had to change all 4 coils every 3-6 months. This last set only lasted me 2 months before it started with the same issues again. I have researched this issue and found dozen of forums regarding this same issue with my same exact make, year, model. There has to be something that is causing this to happen so often. I know it's a kia but I should be able to drive my car more than a few months before it breaks down. It doesn't matter where I am, what speed I am going or how long I am traveling, this issue still occurs.

After only 70000 miles I was told the engine has sludge build up and needs to be replaced and is unsafe to drive. The car was always maintained at the dealership and the oil was changed on a regular, timely basis through the dealer. The dealer records were sent to kia who would not gaurantee to cover the replacement of the engine, they may or may not cover it. If its not covered I am on the hook. I was told by dealer that the oil had metal shavings in the oil, this was also sent to kia by the dealer. I was told kia needed a picture that only could be obtained by tearing down the engine and that once this happened the engine couldn't be put back together. At this point I was committed to a new engine, either kia would pay or I would. At this time I have not done anything. I know kia has this issue with other kia models. The vehicle was taken in immedately when a check engine light came on,.

Ignition coil recall. They keep going bad every two months. The check engine light comes on I lose power to the car. Get the ignition coil and valve cover fixed. I have the same problem again. While I am driving in motion and stationary this happens.

The contact owns a 2008 kia Rio. The contact stated that while driving 45 mph, the vehicle stalled and the check engine light illuminated. The contact drove home and noticed that the splash guard under the vehicle had melted. The vehicle was towed to an authorized dealer who stated that two coil packs failed which caused the engine to pump raw fuel into the exhaust system. Both the coil packs and catalytic converter were replaced. The failure mileage was approximately 69,200.

Check engine light comes on intermittently. When a diagnostic test is run on the car, error p0101 is detected. This error, "mass air flow circuit range performance problem," can be corrected by replacing the mass air flow sensor in the engine. However, this error has occurred twice in my car, the incident in January being the third. If ignored, the check engine light may go off after time. Sometimes when the problem occurs, there is hesitation in the engine when accelerating after coming to a complete stop. I have noticed that the hesitation is worse when the car is warmed up and has been driving for over 20 minutes. No one at kia has been able to fix the problem permanently and it is no longer covered under warranty, so I have to pay to replace this sensor myself.

While driving down the road with my two year old in the car, the engine seized up and stalled. The car currently wont start and had to be towed to the repair shop. However, we just had all of the routine maintenance to the car less then 300 miles prior to the engine seizing. The check engine light never came on. As of today, they don't know what the problem is except that the engine seized. There was no prior incidents with the car and it was always serviced on time.

Check engine light seldom goes off. Took car to dealership for service and to resolve this problem, light went back on in less than 100 miles after leaving the dealership. Same thing happened last time I took it in.

Vehicle was taken to dealer to be serviced four times for the check engine light. Since last inspection it could not be determined as to why the check engine light came on.

The driver noticed that fluid was leaking fluid from underneath the vehicle and the check engine light appeared on the dashboard. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection and the mechanic can not duplicate the problem at this time. Please provided further details.

Check engine soon light came on and there was not acceleration while in 1st gear. Replaced fuel injector harness. The dealer also replaced the air cleaner lid with a newly designed one, mass air flow sensor and tightened pin connectors.

Car stalls randomly since first bought and has done so too many times to count. Car has stalled on my daughter in the middle of an intersection with an 18 wheeler on her tail, she had to swerve into a convenience store parking lot with a 5 1/2 pot hole causing damage to the car. This car has been in the garage 6 - 8 times in the past year. The dealer says they cannot fix it unless the check engine light is on. The car has been in 3 times in 8 months with the check engine light on and they only replace the gas cap assembly every time and the car still continues to stall at random. Dealer says they cannot duplicate problem and daughter is dumb blonde! the car also hesitates when driving and runs rough like it wants to stall, you never know when it will just stop on you. This is not a safe vehicle to have on the roads. I am filing lemon law papers on it today.

Kia Rio 2002 the check engine light will not go out I took it to get check out. Everything is fine. There is nothing wrong. They reset the check engine light and it came back on. I was told buy a kia dealer ship it is a manufacturer defect. And nothing can be done. This is been going on for four years now. I have to get the check every time the inspection is do and have the light reset. So I can pass the inspection.

I bought my car used, and have had it for only six months. I read the other complaints filed and feel a little better knowing that it isn't just my car with the problems. But I wish the dealers would recognize that they are ripping us off by not fixing the obviously defective parts. My Rio has the check engine light on (not all of the time) but when it does come on it is accompanied by the the flashing overdrive off light. This usually lasts for a couple of days. Just when I was getting used to that the engine started shaking with only the check engine light on, it did not stall but it would have if I didn't pull into a parking lot and turn the car off. A few hours later I turned it back on and no problems again until just last week the engine started shaking again. Lets not leave out the minor problems though. I also have problems with my interior falling apart and my cover for my fuses falls off every time I get in. My paint is peeling off, I have had to replace my battery that died out of nowhere. My warranty is almost up and I have had no help with these problems thus far.

Vehicle fire originating from the vehicle fuel lines. As the consumer was driving, she noticed that something smelled hot in the interior of the vehicle. The consumer then turned the engine off, discovered the smoke coming out of the hood, and saw flames within the engine compartment of the vehicle that continued to grow. Prior to the fire, the consumer noticed that the vehicle decreased in power while driving and the check engine light illuminated. The consumer attempted to get the vehicle repaired the next day and the dealer couldn't get to it until the following week, and was told that driving the vehicle wouldn't harm the vehicle. (a similar occurrence of the check engine light happened a year prior to this event) the fire began in the passenger side of the engine near the bulkhead area of the two metal fuel lines that ran along the bulkhead.

While driving any speed vehicle stalls intermittently dealer has been contacted. . Consumer also stated the interior panel around the windshield has broken off, also the vehicle has poor gas mileage, the overdrive light is coming on, the check engine light is on, the steering wheel locks up and is difficult to unlock, and the brake pedal goes too far down.

I was driving home from work, and when I was approximately 1 minute from my home, my check engine light came on, and my car began "chugging". I made it as far as 3 houses away from my driveway when my car just stalled out. Rather than re-starting, I decided to roll to my driveway. I didn't even make it as far as my driveway, and my car caught on fire. The black smoke was so thick, you couldn't even see through it. My whole engine went up in flames, and my car is now totaled.
