Engine Problems of Kia Motor RIO

I got the second hand 2002 kia Rio 4 months ago . Me and my wife were driving for 1 mile when the smell of smoke came and in the couple of seconds there was smoke came from the bonnet. I switched off and tried to open the bonnet but the smoke got more and more ,so we left the car immediately and we saw flames came from right part of the bonnet. We were just shocked and scared of fire. We called 911 and firefighters and in less than ten minutes front part of the car was totally ruined. Looking optimistically there was no injury at all . But how about the next one! can everybody be lucky as we were?! we were just in the middle of the turn line in middle of the street , so other cars were around us I can not imagine what could happened if I was in freeway or if my wife was alone!?.

While my daughter was driving her 2002 kia Rio, all of a sudden the car just stopped running and would not start up. There was no prior indication that anything was wrong - no light or indicators on. Had it towed to our mechanic - engine was locked up. He didn't know for sure why - oil and coolant were fine. We didn't want to pay to have the reason diagnosed, as it doesn't really matter what caused it - the motor is shot. This car has been regularly maintained - oil change every 3000 miles, regular service as recommended in the book. We had to have the transmission replaced two years ago, as it just decided to die also.

The contact owns a 2007 kia Rio. While driving 70 mph, the vehicle failed and would not restart. The vehicle was towed to the contact's residence and was then retrieved by kia. As of October 1, 2007, the cause of failure had not been determined. There were no recalls available for the engine. The current and failure mileages were 84,600.

Failure of vehicle repair x 3 weeks. 3 different repairs, still not fixed. Kia refuses to give loan/rental to drive while performing warranty work. Car will not run, stopped in middle of interstate almost killing my college student x 3+.

Engine check light turned on and off mutiple times within the year. Engine finally no longer operated.

The consumer parked the vehicle and left the engine running. After a few minutes, the consumer returned to find the vehicle on fire. The fire department determined the cause of the fire was due to a mechanical failure. Please provide any additional information.

The consumer took the vehicle to dealership to check for a strong odor inside of the vehicle. The fumes/odors became very heavy when driving which caused the driver to become ill. The consumer was informed by the mechanic that the odor the driver was smelling was called kosmoline and would eventually disappear. There was a nauseating smell of burning rubber or plastic from the time of purchase. The consumer was allergic to the smell after breathing the melting kosmoline and or undercarriage for over 3k miles. The smell had come from the vents as well when the vehicle was stopped. The vehicle experienced a hard start from a cold start the dealer was unable to duplicate the problem.

Intermittently engine check light comes on/off. Dealer has inspected this vehicle several times and still problem recurring.

Consumer states that while driving at any speed and no warning the vehicle will shut off causing consumer to pull over. Dealer notified. Mr.

Vehicle shakes and vibrates and shuts off without prior warning. Dealership is aware of problem.

Vehicle will shutdown without prior warning. Consumer will fill in additional information.

The engine light illuminated on the dashboard, the dealer was unable to remedy the problem.

While driving vehicle would run hot. Dealer has replaced the engine once, and replaced automatic transmission twice. However, problem continued. Dealer had not found a solution for the problem.

The vehicle turned off automatically while driving. Mr.
