Side/window Air Bag Problems of Kia Motor Rondo

My son & his friend were hit on the passenger side by a young man who intentionally ran a red light. He hid my son so hard that our 2009 kia Rondo flipped 3 times and not one of the driver side airbags deployed. They did deploy on the passenger side only. The car has since been destroyed by the insurance company, however I still have pictures. I think this should be checked in other Rondos so no one else has to endure what my son who was driving did. As you can see from the picture that although the passenger air bags deployed, the steering wheel in in tact and none of the driver side air bags deployed. Seems impossible since the car flipped over 3 times. He was driving on a city street.

The contact owns a 2009 kia Rondo. While the contact was driving approximately 45 mph, an opposing vehicle crashed into the rear passenger side door and side rear bumper. The air bags failed to deploy with the level of force involved in the crash. The front seat occupant and rear passenger sustained minor injuries and suffered from whiplash. A police report was available. The vehicle was towed to an authorized dealer for repairs. The VIN was not available. The failure mileage was 14,000.

Ran off the road by a truck and went into a ditch. Not one airbag deployed. The car was equipped with knee airbags, front airbags, side impact airbags and side curtain airbags. Totaled the car, was lifeflighted to vanderbilt. They had difficulty getting me out of the car because the airbags did not deploy. They could not cut the bar between the front and back seats because it was loaded with undeployed airbags. Had a broken leg/hand and neck, chest and back injuries. Notified kia to find out why the airbags did not deploy. First was told that "it was obvious that I did not hit the right spots to trigger the airbags". Sent them pictures, copy of page in the owners manual showing that most of the sensors were hit and a copy of the accident report. After calling almost every day for three weeks they told me that their engineers had determined "that it was not a severe enough impact to deploy the airbags" despite the car being totaled.

I was involved in a side impact accident. The other driver ran a red light at approximately 50 mph striking my vehicle in the front drivers door. None of the air bags deployed. The accident resulted in c6 and c7 being fused. This resulting in a permanent disability.
