On September 28, 2021 we found out the hard way that our minivan's gear shift could be moved from the parked position to reverse, neutral and forward without having the car turned on and without needing to have a foot pressed on the break. While the car was parked (off) on our home's driveway, my three year old and his brother were in the car getting ready to drive to school and my wife was at the door of our house waiting for our other son to come out. In the interim our three year old son got his hands on the shifter and without much effort was able to move the shifter out if the parked position. As a result the van rolled down the driveway with two of my children in it. The vehicle ended up on the street where there was incoming traffic. If it weren't because the car hit the fence, other cars would probably not have stopped and it could have been a worse incident. I've reported incident to kia on 9/29/21 and was referred to the corporate department. To date 10/14/21 we have yet to get a resolution from kia and address the incident. They assigned a representative who has yet to provide any concrete guidance and support. My car is not road safe to drive and now I'm left without a family car and traumatized children from this event. I've tested moving the shift gear myself and indeed it moves without having the car on or pressing the break. There were no warning lamps in the car to alert of an issue. The car is at an autoshop pending kia's inspection but kia has yet to inspect the vehicle or provide any guidance other than we may need to take the car to a dealership to check something. Autoshop will not touch the car until kia's tech inspects it. My auto insurance company's adjuster has documented shift gear issue when conducting visual inspection of damages to the car.

The contact owns a 2006 kia Sedona. The contact stated that after placing her vehicle in park, she would had to take a screw driver in order to move the gear shifter. In addition, her brake lights would not appear when depressing the brakes and the opposite occurs when she does not depress the brakes. The vehicle was then taken to the dealer who advised her the shift controller was fractured. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 70,000.

Vehicle would not move, went from speed of 70 on highway to not going at all. Mash accelerator and vehicle would not go. Bought got hit in the rear by oncoming vehicles. Could not even accelerate car enough to get to the side of the road. Called kia dealership and they said it is throttle body wire and car is out of warranty. After researching on internet there have been lots of problems with this same thing. Kia said if it happens again just cut car off and back on. Easy said when you are driving down the highway.

Kia Sedona 2006. I was parked. I went to back up and it started forward. I never stepped on accelerator only the brake. It continued to accelerate faster and faster all the while my foot was on the brake. There were skid mark to show that I had my foot on the brake. A cinder block wall stopped me.
We rented a 2008 kia Sedona van with the 3. 8l engine and it lost power in the middle of the highway at speeds of 65-70mph. The engine did not die, but the check engine and esc warning lights came on and there was no power being transferred to the transaxle. On the first van the incident occurred after driving only 50 miles, the replacement van was driven 1,286 before it too did the same thing. We informed advantage car rental that it appears to be a systematic problem with that make and model.

The contact owns a 2005 kia Sedona. While driving approximately 45 mph on normal road conditions; there was a loud noise when pressure was applied to the accelerator pedal. Suddenly, there was no power. The contact was able to drive to the emergency lane; however, reverse was the only functional gear. The driver was able to drive cautiously in "reverse" cautiously to a nearby residence. The vehicle has not been repaired. The contact had concerns of the safety risk involved. The VIN was unavailable. The failure and current mileages were 85,000.

The contact owns a 2006 kia Sedona lx. The vehicle has a remote starter manufactured by audiovox, model number pro9556. When the contact pre-started her vehicle inside her home with the device, she noticed that the vehicle switched into gear. She drove backwards and crashed into another place of residence. After inspecting the vehicle, the contact noticed that the starter device allowed the vehicle to shift into gears without having a key in the ignition when pressure was applied to the brake pedal. As a consequence, the vehicle could easily be stolen and increased the risk of a crash or serious injury. She notified the manufacturer of the equipment and the vehicle, but neither sources would assume liability. The contact has pictures of the failed component and the crash. The failure and current mileages were 40,000. Updated 12/11/08 the vehicle came out of park without the keys being in the ignition. There were also times when the key would get stuck in the ignition. The consumer realized the vehicle could be shifted into reverse without keys. Updated 12/11/08 .
Kia Sedona( a dollar rental vehicle) parked on a slight incline in the driveway rolled backwards when ignition was turned off and key removed while vehicle was in park.
I purchased my 2003 kia Sedona in November 2005. So far the following have been repaired or replaced: front hub assembly left side once, right side 2x's, the alternator, the wiper motor, two recalls, the battery, now at 65,000 miles the transmission is shot and needs to be replaced and the timing belt has been replaced. However the warranty company says they wont replace it because the cost of the repair exceeds the value of the car. This is simply outrageous. I have brought the car to the dealer for every service needed. Transmission, oil filter ect.

In may of 2007 transmission locked up at a stop light. I was unable to move the vehicle out of the middle of the roadway. The vehicle was towed to the dealership where the computer was reset. In November 2007 I was driving in heavy traffic when the transmission locked up again. I came within inches of being rearended as the vehicle came to a sudden stop and I could not get it out of the roadway or warn the driver of the vehicle behind me of what was happening. He did manage to slam on breaks and avoid hitting me, but in doing so nearly caused a major pileup behind him.
2007 kia Sedona (same as Hyundai entourage). One minute after parking the vehicle, it rolled backwards and crashed into a light pole across the street. I did not notice any warning lights or hear any noises before the failure occurred. My wife sustained injuries from trying to stop it, including having her foot run over and a huge bruise on her hip.
My kia Sedona is in the zieser service center again. I had to take it in for the horn and other concerns. The horn does not always work and this is a safety issue. The dealer said they can not duplicate, but when my husband and I drive the vehicle it does not work on a consistent basis. They have had to replace parts on this horn already on several occasions. And I have had to bring it back on several occasions since they can not duplicate at first. On my last visit the service dept turned the rotors for the brakes. I told them that it is now squealing since they did this and I wanted to know why. When they called to tell me my car was ready, they said I owed $25 to look at the brakes. I ask why and dave in service said that their tech took over 2 hours to look for problems and no one was going to pay them (meaning kia), so I needed to pay. I told them I wanted to know why I did not have a squeak before and then after they did some warranty work on the van I did have a squeak. I also stated that I have a safety concern about the car feeling like it is being pushed when you are slowing down and you get to 30-35 mph. He said this is normal. Lastly, the cruise control does not decelerate when going down hills (even a slight grade). It does not do this on a consistent basis. They told me this is normal, but when I drive it accelerates and if I have it set at say 40 mph I have to apply to brakes because I have had it accelerate past 60 mph. Again, I am very concerned about my vehicle and the fact that there are safety issues that I feel need to be corrected. Even though they state that the horn is working correctly, when I was driving this weekend, I was cut off by a car and when I went to honk the horn it did not work. And when I tested on several occasions, it did not work. My husband also was cut off (there is in intersection that is notorious for this by our home) and he could not get it to work.
The contact owns a 2006 kia Sedona. While driving approximately 45 mph, the vehicle failed to shift into the proper gear. The vehicle appears to be in neutral when this occurs. Prior to and during the failure, the engine warning indicator is not illuminated on the instrument panel. The dealer could not duplicate the failure and provide a sufficient remedy. The manufacturer did not assist. The failure mileage was 2,000 and current mileage was 39,849. Updated 03/17/09 updated 03/17/09.
On more than four occasions I have been driving this van and when pressing the gas pedal to accelerate the engine revved , but the van did not move. Two of these incidents have been while merging onto interstate 95, once on us route 1 and another merging on to route 234. On at least one occasion my one year old daughter was in the vehicle. It was an extreme safety hazard to merge on to interstate 95 in the middle of rush hour while traffic was moving at 65 mph plus and not be able to accelerate. In one instance there was a tractor trailer coming up behind me, and I had to cut off another vehicle trying to merge in order to get back off on to the ramp that I just merged off. The first time we took it to the dealer and they said is was a speed control sensor, the second time they said it was low on transmission fluid. The third time they had the vehicle for a couple of days and stated that they were unable to reproduce the issue. We have a case number with Kia Motors, and have requested a buy back under the virginia lemon laws. We picked up the vehicle from the dealer today and still have not heard back from our case worker with kia despite a call asking if we should pick up the vehicle or not.
I purchased my kia Sedona in April 2006. On average, four times a year I will press the accelerator pedal and the rpm's will go up but the vehicle will not move forward. I have to then release the accelerator pedal and press it again for it to "catch" and move forward. The 1st time was while on vacation in san diego in 2006. On 4-5 occasions the problem almost caused a serious accident. I have reported it several times, but since kia cannot find a "code" they claim that they cannot fix the problem.
12-23-05 the vehicle started to show reverse problems. Dealer was called and the dealer said that the manufacturer would not honor the warranty because I had not taken it to the dealer to have the tranny fluid checked. This was said without seeing the vehicle and after I had just been asked if I was the same person that had just had their tranny fixed. Many phone calls later, without any resolution, I took the vehicle to be fixed at a cost of $2400.
Took kia, Sedona 2004 4 times to dealer for brake failure. The brakes squeaked a lot, and the problem has not been fixed properly. Consumer took vehicle to the dealer and the problem was fixed. But, then again one could hear a sound on the brakes. Consumer was taken back vehicle to dealer for the 5th time. To see what could be done. Also transmission when in drive around 5 mph, wanted to stop, then jumped to normal. Also when the car was idling in park or stopping it shook.

Our kia sadona is a 2002 model and has about 52,000 miles on it. It has had problems with the transmission, brakes and the windshield has been replaced three times etc. Today however, my husband was driving the vehicle when the front drivers side seat in the vehicle broke. The seat broke completely out of it's chamber. Thank god this did not happen during an accident. The dealership said they would be replacing the part that broke under the warranty however it will be awhile before they get the part in. They refused to provide us with a safe vehicle to drive during the time it takes to get it fixed and kia corporate also refused saying they do not provide rentals even if the part is a defect from the manufacturer. They pride themselves on the warranty of the car parts but who cares how much you have to spend on rental cars while yours is in the shop so many times.
While driving on highway with heat on, the air stopped blowing into the car from the vents even though we could hear the blower motor running. This started October 4, 2003 and still has not been fixed as of June 2004. Even though we have had the car in the repair shop 11 times. We have been placed in very dangerous situations because of this. During the winter, when the blower would quit, the windows would fog up or freeze up immediately. We couldn't even see to get the car off the road. There was no way to clear the windows, not to mention the discomfort of freezing to death when it was 30 degrees below zero. The entire heating system, actuators, blower motor were replaced and the blender doors were reprogrammed. We only have heat sporadically. Now that summer is here, the air conditioner doesn't work,. It is in the shop now having the compressor replaced. The transmission also was replaced in oct. 2003. We feel the company has had ample time to repair the car. They even admit they can't fix it. We are seeking a replacement (comparable) vehicle or a refund so that we can get a vehicle that works. I refuse to go through another winter like that.
While driving at a normal speed vehicle will overheat, causing the fluid to burn dry. There is no power or acceleration.
I have numerous complaints on my 2003 kia sodona. I purchased the vechile in June of 2003, we have since taken the van in to the dealership for a variety of problems. The aircondtioner stop blowing cold air with in the first three months of owning it, this has been fixed. Paint has peeled off the front bumper, seat belt ratcheting system stopped working, engine mount needed replacing, tansmition needed adjusting three times, and the last problem was the vechile would lock when ever and where ever it felt the need to. I locked my self out of the car with my children inside many times. The dealship replaced a main panal inside the door. Despite, all the times I have taken it in, at least twice for every problem, the dealership refuses to give me a car, mind you I have two children to cart around all day. I am extrmemly peeved about this van.
Driving on interstate and vehicle suddenly felt like someone slammed on the brakes and slowed the vehicle from 65 mph to 35mph right away. This problem has happened 5 times, 5/21/03, 5/23/03, 5/24/03, 5/27/03, 5/28/03. Vehicle has been to dealer service dept. 5/21/03, 5/23/03, 5/27/03, 5/28/03.
The vehicle did not hold when going down a hill or no low range. There was a knocking sound coming from the motor(dealer didn't find problem), and a wind noise had come from the front glass while the vehicle was in motion.
Brought 2002 kia Sedona in July 2002 and transmission went out in September 2002. Transmission was replaced and ever since on cold mornings transmission jerks violently several times while driving. Has been to shop several times for repair but kia service response to problem is let car warm up for 15 minutes or so before you drive off. This solution is not working.
Strong antifreeze smell when using the ac on hot days. Transmission shifts violently from 1-2 and occasionally into reverse. Dealer has attempted to correct several times. Sliding doors have had alignment problems and bearing failure several times also. (currently fixed).
