We have a 2006 kia Sedona minivan and from the first we have had problems with the emergency brakes on this van. The problem is severe when the brakes are hot. When engaged the emergency brakes allow the van to roll backward down my driveway into the street. My driveway is on a steep incline and all my other vehicles have not had any problems with the emergency brakes holding them at the top of my driveway. My Sedona has had a problem and I have been told by dealership people that it holds while in the shop(on level ground) and that the systems is working as it should. The emergency brakes are getting worse . We are afraid that one day when it rolls back into the street it will hit a child who is in the vans blind spot. The kia factory people lack the technical training to understand basic braking systems and their correct application & function. Emergency brakes are meant to hold on an incline to prevent the van from rolling which in my case the emergency brakes have failed to perform as required from the very first. Please help before a life is lost. Thank you william pasquale 631-588-4791.

We recently had to have brakes redone on our kia Sedona with only 25,000 miles. We were told there was only 5 percent braking left. This is consistent with the vibrations we observed upon braking. We were told by the kia service manager that the vehicle was very heavy in front and that was the reason for the extreme brake failure. We were also told they had to replace the brakes on a Sedona with only 13,000 miles. The service manager also said the brake wear was due to driving habits. As a comparison, we have a Ford windstar, 1995 model, with about 140,000 miles and it had to have only one brake job. Another vehicle in our possession, a Nissan frontier with over 80,000 miles has not had to have the brakes redone. I feel this is a design problem with kia Sedona and can lead to a safety issue.

: the contact stated a month after the vehicle was purchased, a roaring sound was heard everytime the brakes were applied. The vehicle was taken to the dealer 4 times after this incident. The dealer determined the vehicle was operating normally. There was no incident of brake failure. There are also problems with adjusting the driver side seat backwards. The vehicle was taken to dealer in April 2006 who could not duplicate the problem. The dealer also located recalls for driver side seats but the VIN number of this vehicle was not included in the recall.
The consumer owns a 2005 kia Sedona. She purchased the vehicle on 6-20-05, and twenty minutes after she drove the car off the lot, the radio quit working along with the ignition light illuminating. The consumer took the vehicle back to the dealership, and they could not service the car that day but made an appointment to come back on 6-22-05. The dealership kept the vehicle for three days. On 7-26-05 the brake went all the way to the floor and made a loud ticking noise while turning. The consumer took the vehicle to another dealership for repairs, and they resurfaced the brakes and the ignition. On 7-31-05 the brakes failed. The consumer tried to pump the brakes and they would not catch. To keep from hitting the vehicle in front, she veered to the left and ran onto the median, causing two blow outs on the driver's front and rear. The consumer had the vehicle towed to aaa, and they replaced one of the tires and placed the spare on the vehicle. There where no injuries in this accident. Also, one of the tires in the accident looked as if someone had taken a knife and cut the tire. The cut was so clean that the dealership refused to repair the tire or the rim. The consumer had to buy a new tire and rim. On 8-18-05 the van was taken back to kia,. The consumer was given a rental car. The consumer had gotten the vehicle back on August 28, 2005. On 8-19-05 the consumer received a recall letter concerning the gas pedal and braking problems. (11/30/05) the emission light had come on and smoke was seen coming from under the vehicle, there was a loud ticking sound heard when turning the steering and a coil was repaired as a result, the grease seal leaked and there was a hesitation when the vehicle kicked into gear.
While driving 45 mph, the consumer applied the brake pedal, but the brakes failed. This caused the consumer to collided with the vehicle in front of his. The occupants in all three vehicles sustained minor injuries and were transported to the hospital. Both frontal air bags failed to deploy. The vehicle was towed to a garage for inspection. Please provide further details.
