I am writing to alert you to a dangerous problem with the springs responsible for the reclining mechanism of the seats in the 2005 Sedona. We have an lx model with the captains chairs. I had noted previously that the seats would spring forward quite rapidly when there was not a person in the seat and the handle is pulled. The seat backs are quite heavy and fling forward with some force. This force was readily apparent this past Thursday (5/11/06). Our six-year old daughter was sitting in the chair in a reclined position. She stood up and faced the seat in order to raise the seat to the upright position. When she pulled the handle, the seat flung forward and hit her in the head. She sustained a cut to her right forehead that required a visit to the emergency room and three stitches. She also sustained a bruise to her upper eyelid. Luckily, the seat did not hit her eye directly.

The contact stated the driver's seat broke and leaned to the left. The dealer suggested someone pulled on the seat while getting into the back and broke it. The manufacturer offered no free remedy.

The center seats in the kia Sedona are the reclining type and when you try to put it up-right the back of the seat slams up and the whole seat shoots forward as happen to my daughter (9 yrs old). I pointed this out to the dealer and was told by him sitting in the seat that he had no problem, then again he is a grown men with a bit weight and not a 9 yr old whose feet to do not touch the floor when sitting in that seat. We were lucky that the vehicle was at stand still when this occurred. All I asked her to do was put the seat up-right which she had reclined to read. End result was the seat slammed her into the (my) seat and had her trapped, had we been moving, what then ????????.
