We have had multiple seat latches fail on our vehicle. We have attempted to wd40 the mechanism and have ensured there is nothing in the tract but the second row passenger seat as well as the larger drivers side third row seat are not latching onto the tract. The mechanism moved freely but they are not latching into place. I had submitted a safety recall claim for our second row seat a while back as it created a significant safety issue with our child in the seat. Now the rear seat is having a similar problem. The biggest issue is that it will seem that it is latching and then during times of safety concerns (occupied while driving) it unlatches. My son was sitting in the rear and lurched with the latch causing him to bite his tongue. The second row seat has yet to be fixed, and moved around while driving further causing a safety concern.

I have the air bag indicator light and the diagnostic codes consistent with NHTSA campaign number 19v109, kia recall number sc175. The recall mentions the wiring harness being damaged and my harness is damaged, with two wires severed. However, because my vehicle was manufactured 2 months after the recall cutoff date, kia believes this recall does not pertain to my vehicle. I believe otherwise.

I have already submitted a claim regarding my passenger side middle seat not locking into the track and having a significant safety concern. On July 1st my sister in law was sitting in the back (middle drivers side captains chair this time) while driving and attempted to move the seat forward slightly to make more room in the back. After she pulled up the lever the seat would not latch onto the track and started to slide back and forth freely. I had to pull over slowly so she would slam forward and after many unsuccessful attempts finally was able to get the seat to stay in a fixed position so we could continue driving. Once again this is a huge safety concern for the vehicle and has now happened on both sides. We cannot use our passenger side captains chair at all because of this issue.
The passenger side second row outside seat is not latching into place appropriately and thus slides forward and back in the track upon breaking or accelerating. We did not know it became faulty until my 5 year old was seated while driving and upon vehicle breaking his chair flew forward in the track and jolted him. He nearly face planted into the front seat, and if we were driving any faster and needed to suddenly stop for something to avoid collision, or god forbid, been in an accident, I have no doubt he would have been. My husband has been attempting to find the exact reason but he can’t tell yet if it is some sort of spring mechanism failure or if there is another explanation. That seat is 100% not safe for use until it is fixed and continues to slide back and forth in the track whether or not it is occupied. The issue is available for inspection upon request, however my husband has to take the track off in order to remove the chair so it isn’t flying all over when driving.

Nine times out of ten the third row seat doesn't latch properly. Usually one side will latch securely and the other won't. Then it gets stuck. Super dangerous and needs to be recalled ASAP. Vehicle has 3600 miles on it now and has been happening since we purchased it new.

We purchased brand new a 2016 kia Sedona from the dealership. Within the 2 years we owned it we had to take it into the dealership four times because the airbag light would come on and stay on, or would flicker off and one as I was driving down the road. They found it to be an issue with the passenger airbag. They repaired it the first three times and the light would stay off for a while. The fourth time we took it in they said they were going to try replacing the whole seat to see if that helped. We decided that we didn't want to risk it happening again as the van was less than 2,000 miles from being out of warranty. So, we traded it in for a 2018 kia Sedona which now, at 1400 miles, has the same issue! we have already taken it in twice to the have issue repaired. What are the odds of having the exact same issue?.
The driver's seat became unsecured on the front side, so only the rear of the driver's seat is secured in place. If I lean back or accelerate quickly the entire seat tilts back. Initially this occurred when I was stopped, as I leaned back to reach into my pocket to grab my wallet. But now it won't refasten, so it occurs when stationary or in motion.

My mother and her friend were driving approx. 35 miles per hour when the right rear wheel went off the road causing them to go into the frying pan river in basalt, CO. There was approx. 42. 1 degree slope. My mother was the passenger. We retrieved her pictures and video. She was video taping with her cell phone at the time of the accident. The passenger window was down. She said, "OH shit", and appeared to reach to remove her seatbelt. They went into the river. They were found at 4:30 pm with car submerged in water and both drowned. No damage to the car. The side airbags had gone off and the front windows were up with the airbags sticking out when they were found. The front airbags did not go off. My concern is that my mom knew she would get out but when she took a deep breath the airbags knocked her air out. And we know the windows were down but went up. If the electrical shorted out from being under water, why did the windows go up and not stay where they were, which was open. Also, the drivers seat moved forward after going into the water. And we question if airbags went off to early. Both the air bags deploying and windows going up impeded my mom getting out. The police report seems to question why the airbags went off also. There was a report that another kia Sedona was driving down the freeway and all the doors flew open. I'm worried that we will start seeing more and more electrical problems with kia.
Before the incident there were issues with the rear captain chairs seat belt latch when trying to buckle them. I have three small children under the age of 3 years of age and it is very important and crucial that seat belts are in working order without issues for the safety of their well being. Before the incident the seats themselves in the rear rows had issues latching as well when being installed. On August 18, 2015 myself and three small children were in a severe high impact accident and none of the airbags had gone off like they never existed. My kids and I suffer from seat belt abrasions and I suffer from bruising in multiple places from my head down, shoulder pain and back issues. Police, paramedic's, collision center, witnesses, and my insurance company were all notified or had notified about the airbags. Apparently, my seat which was the driver seat was also completely snapped off as well. Updated 08/26/bf.

Had turned on the air in the seat and smelled a plastic burning smell when I parked my car and went in my house to get my swimsuit and towel and returned outside smoke was rolling out of the car. The car was on fire at the drivers side seat.
At least 3 times in the last 2 weeks the drivers seat back started moving to the recline position with not input on seat adjustment from the driver. This is a scary situation as if you are leaning into the seat back you start moving to the reclined position. Trying to stop the recline using the control would stop the movement until you let up on the seat back control. We found if you move the seat adjustment for forward and back (bottom of seat) the recline stopped. I am planning on taking car to dealer but this is not occur very often.
2009 kia Sedona. Consumer writes in regards to vehicle esc light issues. Consumer states has 2012 kia Sedona with same issues. The consumer stated when she stopped for gas, the light went out, but the speedometer stopped working. She stopped the vehicle, turned off the ignition, then re-started it again. The speedometer started working again, but the esc light came back on. The consumer went to the dealer, and was informed there was a recall on the taillight. Both vehicles had an alignment problem. Both vehicles needed a bolt to be added to the rear axle according to the dealer. But, the bolt was not available. The dealer stated there was no factory retrofit available to fix the problem. The other wheels could be aligned within tolerance, except the rear passenger side. The drivers seat on both vehicles would not stay up. The dealer replaced the pump on the 2009 Sedona.

Shortly after warranty expired (early 2012), the air bag light went on our kia Sedona. I took the van to our local kia dealer to check and they told me that it was the weight classification seat sensor assembly (part 88610 - $1399. 75 at that time) that had to be replaced. After labor cost and taxes it would be $2022!! kia was having some recalls around that time, but none to address this issue. The main reason we bought this van for our family was because of high safety ratings involving all the airbags. Now we are driving without airbags and praying for extra angels around the van when we have to go on the highway. We would like to take long road trips, but that seems too dangerous without airbags. Please investigate and you will find out it is a common issue with this make and model. Kia needs to step it up and fix this issue; lives are at stake. Thank you!.
Van does not stay started. Sensor control and short on seats.

Head rest forces head down when sitting straight due to back pain. Contacted kia and they said not their problem. The choice for a driver with back issues that require sitting up straight are to remove the head rest or drive while experiencing back pain. Neither option is safe.

The contact owns a 2004 kia Sedona. While driving approximately 40 mph the contact smelled a strong burning odor and smoke emitted from the vents. Suddenly, the contact drove the vehicle onto the emergency lane. The contact stated when the driver side junction box covering was removed it was on fire. The police extinguished the fire. A police report was not filed. The contact experienced the consequences related to the fire as mentioned in NHTSA recall campaign id number 05v463000 (seats). The contact was in the process of notifying the manufacturer regarding the recall. The vehicle was towed to a recovery facility. The vehicle had not been inspected by the insurance company. The failure mileage was approximately 120,000.
7 year old child sat in 3rd row passenger side seat and the seat back collapsed backwards. When we took the seat out we noted that the bolts that hold the seat back to the base seat had sheared off of both sides. This seat has normal use and this should not have happened especially without unusual force being applied to the seatback.

Driver and front passenger seats gets regular use. Bolt broke when second row passenger side seatback was released and folded forward for access to third row seating. The seat had not been used for the previous 2-3 weeks. Seat is still in folded position. I am retired and cannot afford repair/replacement of seat.

The contact stated that the seats would not lock into place and the vehicle was taken to the dealer for further inspection. : the contact stated a month after the vehicle was purchased, a roaring sound was heard everytime the brakes were applied. The vehicle was taken to the dealer 4 times after this incident. The dealer determined the vehicle was operating normally. There was no incident of brake failure. There are also problems with adjusting the driver side seat backwards. The vehicle was taken to dealer in April 2006 who could not duplicate the problem. The dealer also located recalls for driver side seats but the VIN number of this vehicle was not included in the recall.
The bolts in all of the seats continued to become loose. The back of the seat continued to fall backwards or forwards. The front suspension always has to be tightened when the consumer has the vehicle service. .
After removal of 2nd and 3rd row seats, they fail to latch on easily as described in the manual, both times dealer's help was necessary after multiple trials at home.
2002 kia Sedona with steering failure. Consumer states that mechanic told her that a bolt fell out and could not be replaced unless the entire steering shaft was replaced. Consumer states that wasn't the first time the steering has had problems. The consumer stated during the first year of owning the vehicle, the transmission failed ,the drivers seat motor had to be replaced several times and the fuse that controlled the dashboard lights malfunctioned on a continuous basis.
