My then 10 year old son got stuck when the passenger seat belt would not release. To get himself out he alone pushed his hips forward. This broke the seat belt mechanism. As of late our front seat belts have been difficult to engage. Today, after driving around for about 5-10 minutes, I reached out my window and my seat belt disengaged. I have been very careful to be sure that I am properly buckled by securely latching and then pulling firmly on the belt as would happen in an accident. I did that this time but it still came unlatched after I was sure I was safe.

My doughter rear ended another vehicle at 40-45 mph. The dual airbags did not deploy and the seat belts did not lock up, allowing the driver's and a passengers head to hit the windshield. Driver and one passenger sustained a concussion, face lacerations, head neck and back injuries. The driver also received a hand and pelvic injury. The 2nd passenger sustained neck back and leg injuries. The damage to the front was so bad it pushed the dash back. The vehicle was totaled!.
Seat belt tangled up around childs chest and stomach. Belt kept getting tighter and tighter. Child was complaining of not being able to breath. Consumer took a pair of scissors and cut the belt. Consumer took vehicle to dealer, and they refused to fix because consumer cut seat belt. Please provide any further information.
A passenger's side impact, the seatbelt lock broke apart on while I was wearing it. It wasn't smashed apart, it just broke the entire lock in about 4 pieces. Previously I had problems with the passenger side seatbelt staying locked and the one backseat lock wouldn't work, since there was no recall on those, they wouldn't fix it. I recieved multiple cuts and bruises, a few stitches and a broken kneck in two places in my cervical spine. You always want to wear your seatbelt in case an accident happens. Mine happened on my way to work, but what good did it do wearing it, since the seatbelt lock came apart?.
When stopping driver's seat belt will unbuckle without prior warning. Consumer crashed into a tree, and the seat belt did not hold due to accident. Vehicle was totaled.

The accident in which the seat belt failed did not result in any damage to the rear bumper. However, even at this low speed the belt latch failed to hold my wife in place, resulting in her whiplash. At many times the latch seems to be properly latched, but with only slight pressure such as adjusting your seating position the belt will unexpectedly come undone.
Front lap seat belts when latched came unlatched. If pulled on will come unlatched. Dealer contacted, and cannot remedy problem due to lack of parts. Problem still exists. Provide further information. .
Drivers seat belt buckle failed/replaced due to unlatching while driving.
Driver's seat belt buckle does not latch on properly, and unbuckles unexpectedly when moving around, which wont protect the occupant in event of a crash. Please provide further information and VIN#.
I've had to replace both front seat belt recepticles due to failure of latch. The engine check light stays on constant even after it is reset. I would like to know why.
The vehicle experienced the same seat belt problem as stated in the recall which pertained to the 1997 kia Sephia, which the consumer also owned, however the 2000 kia Sephia was not recalled. *ea04007*.
While driving the car the seatbelt buckles came loose. Sometimes the buckles will not latch at all. Dealer won't do anything.
Certified child safety seat inspectors working for the local fire department informed us that the length of the female portion of the seat belts in the back seat of our kia Sephia are too long to allow an infant child safety seat to be installed properly. The female end of the seat belt comes up into the plastic portion of the car seat (they tried 4 different models of car seats) which does not allow the belt to be tightened enough to hold the car seat securely in place. This inability to install an infant car seat properly in a rear facing position would appear to be a safety defect since all the female ends are too long to allow for proper installation. I fear that this causes a grave safety issue for any family who has an infant riding in a car seat in a kia Sephia. We contacted kia and were told that the dealership never should have told us we would be able to install two car seats in the back seat, although the owners manual states that two car seats can be installed. We got no further help from them in solving this problem, because they stated it was a dealership issue not a problem that concerned them.
When the occupant makes a slight move in the driver's seat belt buckle comes loose, leaving the occupant unprotected in case of crash. Dealer has replaced the seatbelt buckle twice. Problem still exists.
Driver's side seat belt sounded as if it was locked/stuck in the retractor when it really was not. The problem was similar to a recall on 1998 kia Sephia (recall no. 02v-216), which is also experienced by consumer on his 1999 kia Sephia.
Vehicle was in a head-on crash at 45 mph, and air bags did not deploy. Also, seat belts did not lock. Kia manufacturer has been contacted.
Oil filters made by any other company than kia does not work. I had to get an oil change twice because the one done by the car lot was not a kia oil filter and the one I had done was not a kia filter. I took the car to a kia repair shop the next day and they cleaned the area and changed the filter. The brakes since I bought the car have been screaching and at that time, a brake repairman advised me my brakes wore at 95%. The brakes still screach and grind. In the summer, the air conditioner gives off a foul odor to the point of having to turn it off. The rear middle seatbelt does not latch. The steps listed in the kia manual does not coincide with the steps you must take to defrost the windows. The only way I can is to turn the heat up all the way, or to turn on the heat and air conditioner, which I can't use. The car when it's in drive feels like it's in a lower gear at times and feels like it's not quite in drive. The seams in the driver's door allows water drip into the car. The windshield washer hole on the right side doesn't sprew out any windshield cleaner. I had to take the car back to the car lot beause of the gas door not opening with the indoor gas latch. The outside of the front hubcaps gets very oil and no one can tell me why. The window's resist when you try to roll them up.
While traveling with rear seat belts on seat belts locks up and passanger was unable to move. Please provide further information. Mfr has been contacted.
