Intermittently, engine will rev up and cannot go over 20 mph. Engine check light will come on. The cause for check the engine light was found to be computere failure. Also, transmission problem caused the vehicle to stall.
Consumer felt a shake in the front of the vehicle, dealer balanced the tires, replaced the front tires, and lubed the front end, none of this remedied the problem, dealer finally found cause to be a faulty transmission, however now that the new transmission has been replaced it doesn't shift probably, it's hesitating, and it slams into gear.
I have <45000 miles on my car (2000 kia Sephia) and have had to have the front brakes replaced 3x and the back brakes replaced 1x. Also, when I turn on the ac, there is a loud noise from the front of the car. The car hesitates when trying to get up to speed. The car also feels like it is trying to pull something of great weight when driving at 55 mph. The back seatbelts do not always lock. The dealer informed me that the seat belts are only to lock when the brakes are slammed or the vehicle is hit (so how is a child booster seat supposed to stay put when the vehicle is in motion?).
The transmission shifts hard when changing gears. Nlm.
Transmission replaced two times and is experiencing problems again.

The switch block under the seat was messed up had to be ficked so car would start. Was low on transmission fluid 3 days after buying car. Transmission went out after 6500 miles. The rotors began squelling at about 5000 miles hard to stop sometimes locks up sometimes keeps rolling. . . . . . Rotors and pads replaced and still keeps acting up.
The brakes squeak and the pads were replaced at 1200 miles, the brakes failed again at 6600 miles the rotors were warped and the pads were worn and I returned the car to northwestern Dodge and kia and they replaced the pads and machined the rotors, however the stering wheel shakes and vibrates when I drive on the expressway and the brakes are still grinding. The stering wheel and column vibrates and shakes when I drive at 50+ mph. At 6600 miles the check engine light illuminated and there is a burning smell. The car dies out when I am at a stand still for no reason and without any warning. I have to start the car at least 3 times before it turns over. Overall I would say that I am disappointed with the car and the moment that I can trade it in I plan to do so and I will advise anyone who is thinking about purchasing this car to not even consider a kia (any model) because they are not well made cars.
On March 18 1999 my car would not start up instantly I had to try a few times to start my car and after three tries it finally started I took it to the dealership and thats when I found out I needed a new starter, flywheel, fuel trim malfunction, new dtc groung improvements procedures.

Engine check light came on and stayed on. Also, transmission stick shift kept sticking, and engine head gasket blew out. Dealership replaced engine head gasket and stick shift.
This vehicle was purchased in June of 1998, it has been out of service for more than 40 days for repairs for various electrical, braking, transmission, and various other defects that have rendered the car inoperable since February, 1999.
Many problems with the car some have been caused by the dealer.
No summary included.
When trying to stop the vehicle there is a horrible vibration. It is very hard to control and stop the vehicle while braking. Our gas tank will not take in gas. The tank could be completely empty and it will take a dollar's worth of gas, then gas will start spewing out all over. Our car dealer said he doesn't know what it could be and hasn't heard anything from kia about this being a problem. (it isn't the gas gauge. ) the air bag light came on and stayed. We got this fixed and haven't had problems with this again. Also, we have a manuel transmission. We have had trouble with it kicking out of gear. We could be going down a highway and it will kick out of fifth gear. It does its own thing. We have had this vehicle since August and it has been nothing but problems. My wife and I no longer trust this car and this is the only vehicle we have to rely on. We also have gotten 2 recall notices from kia. One for the wipers, they can fly off at any given time and for the fuel pump being improperly installed. We contacted our dealer and they said they are waiting for kia to send them more parts, until then we must wait to bring our car in to be checked out. We have been waiting.
Consumer stated vehicle would go in reverse and not go in drive. This happen on two occasions. Dealer contacted.
Consumer states there have been nothing but problems with this vehicle since the first year of purchase. Vehicle needs a third transmission, the last incident consumer could not get the vehicle to go in reverse, causing someone to rearend her.
The trandmission pops out of reverse and fifth gear. Nlm.
Consumer states while driving constantly the shift locks and 3-35 minutes vehicle will be out of power.
Vehicle stalls and loses power from 50 mph to 40 mph. Dealers are not able to duplicate problem. Also vehicle has many other defects. Consumer states while traveling 45-55 mph, vehicle will decrease in speed approximately by 3-15 mph, this happens almost on a daily basis. Difficulty shifting into reverse and 5th gear, with vehicle in reverse and on an incline, vehicle will stall while attempting to back up.
Since purchasing vehicle consumer has had nothing but problems, vehicle has been in and out of repair shop 10-12 times, consumer took vehicle back to repair shop and was told that a new transmission was needed.
The transmission fell off of the chasis.
