While driving vehicle stalls. Happens more frequently than when first started.
Taka recall- vechicle has stalled on the highway/streets while driving several times, example I could be in the middle of driving and the car just completely slows down, almost causing accidents which can be very serious. I have taken the car back to the dealer and they said there's nothing wrong, clearly there's and issue with the car. I have been reading storys with consumers having the same issues that I'm having. Kia has not issued a recall which is sad due to the many complaints and life threading situations this has put people in. I'm in the process of hiring and attorney to look into this because no one is giving me answers. Not sure what it could be but I've ask around and some say it sounds like a transmission issue I need answers.
Vehicle has 75,000 miles on it and has started to stall at low idle times. Mostly upon start up but has increased to stalling occasionally at stop lights. Engine light will come on car will restart and sometimes engine light goes off other times it will stay on. Has been happening about 3 months now. Had it in the dealership for faulty door handle which is a known problem but was not covered under warranty. Had dealership run diagnostics which of course I had to pay for and they claimed it was reading a cpu error and the board should be replaced $1,400. Lots of recalls on this vehicle, don't see myself buying another kia.
Car loses power when applying gas, then stalls out. I stop and wait for few minutes, then start the car and drive off like nothing happened. It otherwise drives perfect until the random stalling.
While driving my 2011 kia Sorento for about a half mile from my home, driving approximately 30 mph I approached a busy intersection during morning traffic and with no sign anything was wrong my car stalled out. I lost all power steering but was able to turn wheel and turn right onto side street to get out of the intersection. Car rolled off to the side of the road. I attempted to restart and car seemed to have restarted just fine. I turned around and decided to head back home instead of drive the highway to work. Literally a minute after I turned my car around and entered the intersection my Sorento stalled out again. I once again turned my steering wheel to the right to get out of the way of traffic this time in the busy intersection. This time oil light, and engine light turned on on the dashboard. Waited almost 2 hours to get my car towed 1 1/2 miles down the road to find out that my engine seized up. The mechanic who gave me the bad news stated the oil was down about half a quart not enough to seize the engine. Stated his opinion without further teardown was that something let loose inside of engine causing it to jam up.
I have a 2011 kia sorrento and have been having trouble with it stalling when I stop at red lights . I start to take off and it didn't want to go I push on the gas and it jumps and finally goes. Updated 10/16/2017.
The engine began to be hard to start leaving work for home. Then the next morning it was hard to start and would almost stall at idle. After parking at work I attempted to start it and drive to the kia dealership for diagnosis, it would not keep running more than a few seconds. The engine has suffered a catastrophic failure. The dealer says that it is likely that the crank shaft bearings failed, or possibly the connecting rod bearings. The engine needs to be replaced.
I was driving on the highway, in the high speed lane going 75mph when my rpm's suddenly went all the way up and then down, past 0. The car made a huge jolt but then kept driving with no tachometer. Approximately 1/2 mile later I had to slow down to get off highway and then merge onto another interstate when my car wouldn't accelerate and totally shut off. I've been having issues w fixing it at kia. They have replaced the crank shaft sensor 2x as well as the instrument cluster. It continues to violently jerk daily, typically when accelerating around 40 mph and again stalled while in drive last week. The dealership tells me that the car is running as designed but I just have a steady foot and the engine isn't sure what gear it should be I when I'm going 40mph.
1) the vehicle has stalled out six (6) times during my ownership. This has occurred after stopping. I was able to restart the vehicle four of the six times by stopping, putting the vehicle in park, and pressing the "start" ignition button. Two of the six times the gear was locked into drive and neutral only. The vehicle would also not shut off. Both times 911 was called for California highway patrol assistance was contacted as I was stranded on the freeway. This occurred on 2/20/14 and 6/03/14. On 5/17/14 the vehicle was brought into the kia car pros carson facility for the 60,000 mile maintenance and passed with no issues. 2) the backup camera flutters intermittently (about 10-15 times a month) mostly in the morning on start up and sometimes at night. Kia of cerritos had replaced the navigation/radio module 3 times, but official records show it was replaced only twice. This has not rectified the issue as it still persists. 3) the radio inconsistently (about 2-5 times a month) does not start for about 20 seconds after starting the vehicle up. I am not confident that the issues are resolved and I fear for the safety of myself and all who ride in the vehicle. The kia car pros carson facility replaced the drive assist part and cleaned the electrical contacts for the first incident in Feb 2014. I was told this would rectify the issue. On 6/03/14, I was told a software update to the ecu (electrical control unit) was performed, but they do not guarantee that the problem has been resolved. I want the facility to retain my vehicle and perform a full diagnostic on the vehicle until they can guarantee that it will not stall and lock up on me again. Corporate kia said the vehicle can be released and the facility will not investigate any further. I do not believe kia is taking this matter seriously.
When switching from park to drive a loud pop will be heard from the vehicle usually occurring (loudest) during cold moist days. In the same conditions when the vehicle is in motion the car begins to stutter and vibrate when switching gears (this is usually felt initially driving off or during hard brakes at lights). Car at one point stalled in middle of traffic. When going to dealer they said software updates should have fixed it, however the problem simply persists (though the car did not stall thus far).
While driving my 2011 kia Sorento it just lost power, it would not go forward but the engine was still running and all the dashboard idiot lights lit up. I was in a parking lot with no one behind me otherwise I would have been rear-ended if this happened driving on the road or highway. The car would not go and there was no steering response. I turned off the key to kill the engine and then restarted the car. The car started and I was able to get to my destination and park. I checked this problem online by searching kia Sorento stalling and found a dozen or more video's from people experiencing the same issue that I just experienced. Some of the drivers found that if you use the car in the manual shift mode the stalling did not seem to happen. This is a real potential disaster. You loose power and have no way of moving the car to get out of the way when you are in traffic on a highway. . . Like riding in a 'death wish car'. The video's also stating that they experienced the stalling many times and once it started it got worse. They also stated that kia dealerships were of little help since they need to reproduce the stalling and since it's just random that is not easy. The videos were taped when the issue was actually taking place and showed the tach at about 15 rpm's all the engine lights lit but no steering response or power to move the car. I am hoping this can become a recall and kia will fix this stalling problem and keep the people in these kia Sorento's safe! if this is a computer problem then there should be an error log to show when the car lost power for no reason. Kia needs to take ownership of this defect and fix this potential deadly problem.

When coming to a stop at a light or stop sign, usually on a slight downhill slope, the vehicle engine dies completely. It usually happens after the vehicle has be driven for 10-15 minutes, parked for 10-15 minutes then driven again for ten minutes. Once it dies I am able to start it up right away. It is a push start "key" and the car dies after I apply the brakes and am very near to a complete stop. This has happened within a few months of purchase and occurs randomly, every few months. It has happened six to ten times since I purchased the car. I have brought it into the dealer at least three times and the computer comes back with no codes. They can't replicate it and do not know what to fix. Today, the dealer installed a monitor for me to use for two weeks to see if it happens and we can capture the info in real time. Kia manufacturer customer service was abominable. I am trying to get a field technician to look at it and communicate with the dealer.
This is not a complaint but a report of defective kia Sorento. We purchased an lx v6 Sorento on April 3rd. Car was sold as new with 250 miles on it (we were told that mileage was result of test driving which turned out to be untrue). Within 17 hours and within 25 miles and only the 2nd time behind the wheel of the car, we experienced severe transmission problems. After approximately 30 minutes total of driving (actually five minutes after having parked to pick up kids) and after 1 red light, the car stalled and then lurched forward violently, repeatedly. Immediately drove the car home and when I attempted to back up into the garage found that the car would not go into reverse. Immediately contacted dealer and salesperson came to home and observed problem, thereafter taking car to service. According to dealership, service claimed that problem was caused by computer and was fixed. We returned the car within 17 hours of purchase and refused to take it back. After much wrangling (and denial by the dealership that it had ever had this type of problem), car was replaced with another new car. We have not observed problem in new car but from complaints, I am gravely concerned. Problem is an immediate and serious threat to safety hazard. It is my hope that NHTSA will act immediately. I had two children in car at time and on my way to pick up 4 more. Had the incident occurred on a freeway or conditions where there were many on the road, I believe the consequences would have been dire.
