1 Engine Failure problem

Failure Date: 01/04/2021

It started like a low sound from the engine when I tried to speed up three days before Monday. And this noise was growing while driving on road. The car slowed down gradually and stopped the engine. The mechanic helped me reach my apt and parked after he changed only the starter, he said engine failure due to defeated bearing.

2 Engine Failure problem

Failure Date: 09/19/2020

At 103,000 miles, my 2011 kia Sorento had catastrophic engine failure with no warning. It was deemed to be an internal engine failure, known by kia, however they refused to include my VIN in the recall. I paid 2700 for a replacement through the kia dealership. 2 years later, at 1240,000 miles, the second engine failed. Again, no warning lights, simply driving forward at 60mph when it stopped. Kia refuses to cover anything again.

3 Engine Failure problem

Failure Date: 09/19/2020

In 2018, while driving, my 2011 kia Sorento with 101,000 miles, the engine completely stopped with zero warning. It was deemed an internal engine failure and while kia had a known engine issue, they refused to include my VIN in the recall. I paid out of pocket to have the kia dealer install a kia supplied engine. 2 years later, with 20,000 miles, the same issue happened again. While driving at 70 mph, the engine failed. Fortunately I was able to get to the side of the highway and good samaritans stopped to help push me out of harms way. Again, kia will not cover the repairs. Fortunately I could smell the hot engine and immediately called for a tow rather than try to restart the engine, after learning the engines burst into flames.

4 Engine Failure problem

Failure Date: 03/10/2019

I own a 2011 Sorento (not a gdi engine) that experienced a spun rod bearing and engine failure (engine limp). My sons were driving on the highway in our kia Sorento when without any warning, the engine failed. Thankfully, my sons were able to safely transition off the highway through high-speed traffic in "limp mode". My sons were quickly able to find online complaints and diagnostics duplicating what they had just experienced - spun rod bearing. I was instructed by kia corporate that I should tow my vehicle to a kia dealer for official diagnostics ($140). The dealer confirmed the car experience a spun rod bearing and engine failure requiring a $6,500 engine replacement. It has come to my attention that my model is not included in the kia engine recall. I don't understand the recall limits when the rod bearing defect causes the engine failure regardless of the engine type.

5 Engine Failure problem

Failure Date: 03/16/2016

Beginning March of 2016, loud banging and clanking when starting engine. I took it to dealership where they diagnosed it with bearing problem which could potentially cause engine failure. Vehicle out of warranty so no coverage for an estimated 6,000. 00 repair. When mention of recall came out I was relieved as I am still driving the vehicle. However, it seems that the recall only covers 2012 or newer models. The 2011's have major engine issues as well and need to be included in the recall.

6 Engine Failure problem

Failure Date: 07/18/2011

While driving down the expressway, without warning, there was a catastrophic engine failure causing one or two of the connecting rods to blow through the oil pan and start a fire from the front of the vehicle to the back underneath the carriage. The flames came up the sides and back of the car. Needless to say it was extremely frightening. Looking at the damage of the car I never expected them to attempt to repair this car yet they did. The car was down for almost two months, the second engine and power steering failed before we even drove the repaired car off the lot. Kia still did not want to do anything but repair the car again. They said, "these things happen thats why you have a warranty". These things have never happened to me or anyone I know in the 30 years I have been driving. You buy a new car to avoid such problems. The car has now been returned to me and it is still not right. I just took it in for them to blow out the vents and filters. There was still remnants of the fire extinguisher coming out when you turned on the air. This car is defective and should have a salvaged title. I was forced to put in a law suit.
