1 Noises During Shifting problem

Failure Date: 12/01/2017

I am having the same problems I have read about with the 2011 2. 4 engine. Sudden loss of power when the pedal is depressed, stalling upon acceleration, jerking motion and a loud clanking noise when shifting from park, hard shifts from 1st and 2nd gear, and a constant whirring noise in the motor while driving, not while in park. I believe the same defect that affected the transmission on the 4 cylinder engines needs to be investigated on the v6 engines.

5 Noises During Shifting problem

Failure Date: 04/13/2013

Driving at 65mph with cruise control set; when suddenly there was a violent jerk/hesitation, and an extremely loud bang, as though I had hit something. Stopped on side of the road, vehicle not making any different noise or running different, placed without a problem into park. Checked around vehicle nothing out of order, no fluids running under vehicle, tires ok, unable to locate a problem. It seemed like a miss or something with the transmission, didn't notice lights or any thing abnormal on warning system. Got back in car and continued on no abnormal noise, shifted with out incident, not sure but I am wondering about a transmission issue, hope it doesn't happen agan.

We have previously had 2 transmissions put into our 2011 kia Sorento. Today we were traveling home from san antonio and the dbc indicator and esc indicator lights came on while driving. I pulled over to see what it was and tried to put the car into park. The gear shift would not move. It did it several times during our trip. It also sometimes makes loud bang noises when putting it into gear. I feel that the transmission is faulty again. We have been dealing with these issues since we purchased the vehicle.

7 Noises During Shifting problem

Failure Date: 02/01/2012

When shifting from reverse to drive, vehicle clunks and then jolts forward. When shifting into drive, vehicle whines, doesn't move and so I then shift back into park which results in clunking noise. This has happened numerous times. I brought this to the attention of my dealership on 8/28/12 and they couldn't find the problem at that time. I was advised to keep a log of when the problem occurs which is often but intermittent. Just recently vehicle lost power at a stop sign (had plenty of gas in tank) and after several attempts to keep it running it jolted forward and ran fine.

My 2011 kia Sorento is stuck in the drive position. This has occurred on and off for a few months but was always able to manipulate the brake, and key to get the car to shift. Today I left for work, made a quick stop at the store and my kia would not shift into park. I was ae to put it in neutral. I turned the car off applied the er brake got what I needed. Returned to the car and started it. Was still unable to shift to p, or r. I was in neutral and luckily on a slight slope so the car rolled back enough to avoid hitting the building. Place the car in drive and went on to work. When I arrived at work the car still would not go in to anything but n and d the traction control light and down slop light came on and would not go off. After a while my husband was able to get the car in park. I then left for an appointment and the car would not shift out of p. Giggled things around and finally was able to back up and drive. When I arrived at my appointment the kia would not go into r or p and it remained that way. I had to place the car in neutral apply er brake. After work I was able to maneuver the gear shift enough to be able to get it to go into reverse. I heard loud clunking noises. Backed up slowly and carefully. Putting the car into drive I heard more loud noises. I then proceeded to the kia dealership where I purchased the car and left it for them to check it out. I'm extremely aggervatted that I had to leave my car unlocked all day with the key in the emission and er brake applied. I hope this helps with the investigation of the bad transmissions in the kia.

9 Noises During Shifting problem

Failure Date: 03/23/2011

After coming home from work my daughter said her car was making a strange noise. She asked me to take it for a test drive to see if I could tell what was wrong. After starting the car I placed the transmission in reverse. At that point I noticed a loud noise and felt a strong bump. After backing out of the driveway I put the car in drive and noticed the same noise. When the transmission down shifted as I stopped at an intersection I noticed the noise again. After driving about a mile I went to accelerate from a stop sign, we heard a loud noise, felt a bump, and then heard a very loud grinding sound coming from the transmission. At that point the engine was running but the car would not go any where. We were able to cost to a safe location along the side of the road. The car was towed to the local kia dealership.

11 Noises During Shifting problem

Failure Date: 12/30/2010

Received our "repaired" 2011 kia Sorento back, after 6 weeks of being without it from previous transmission failure, on 29 Dec 2010. The vehicle smelled as though it were hot on drive home from dealership. The next morning 30 Dec 2010, with the vehicle running and while at an intersection, I put the vehicle in drive but nothing happened except a grinding noise. I moved the shift up and down for several seconds and even tried turning the vehicle on and off to no avail. Finally after several seconds, I moved the shifter into drive and the grinding did not occur and the vehicle took off. The incident occurred, as did the initial failure 6 weeks ago, at an intersection whereby I could have been injured. The vehicle now, at random, repeats the same scenario.
