The contact owns a 2014 kia Sorento. The contact stated 35 mph the contact heard knocking noising from the vehicle, the contact felt an explosion coming from under the vehicle and a black cloud came from under the vehicle and no warning light illuminated. The contact was able to pull over and examined the vehicle and saw apart of piston coming out the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, and they stated that the vehicle needed a new engine. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted, and they stated that the vehicle was not under the recall NHTSA campaign number: 17v224000 (engine and engine cooling). The failure mileage 111,000.

2 Engine Cooling System problem

Failure Date: 05/06/2022

The contact's wife owns a 2014 kia Sorento. The contact stated that while his wife was at a complete stop, the vehicle stalled upon depression of the accelerator pedal as the check engine light appeared on the instrument panel. The contact also stated that an abnormal, knocking noise began to emit from the vehicle during the failure. His wife and daughter were able to push the vehicle into an abandoned parking lot and was towed to an independent mechanic. The mechanic discovered that the vehicle was placed under NHTSA campaign number: 17v224000 (engine and engine cooling). The vehicle was then towed to the dealer where it remained in their possession and had yet to be serviced. The contact notified the manufacturer and was informed that the recall would not be honored. The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 166,000.

3 Engine Cooling System problem

Failure Date: 02/23/2019

Tl the contact owns a 2014 kia Sorento. While driving 60 mph, the vehicle failed to accelerate, lost power, and the check engine indicator illuminated. The vehicle was towed to kia of macon (3931 river place dr, macon, GA 31210, (478) 757-0077) where it was diagnosed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired per NHTSA campaign number: 17v224000 (engine and engine cooling) on February 15, 2019. The manufacturer was not contacted. On a separate occasion, while driving 30 mph, the contact was alerted by other motorists that her vehicle was on fire. There were no warning indicators illuminated. There were no injuries. A police report was filed. The air bags did not deploy. The vehicle was towed to an independent tow lot. The contact called ed voyles kia of chamblee (5647 peachtree industrial blvd, chamblee, GA 30341, 770- 232-6247). The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 62,437.

4 Engine Cooling System problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2017

The contact owns a 2014 kia Sorento. The contact stated that the engine seized while driving 80 mph. The vehicle was towed to a dealer (the kia store, 5325 preston hwy, louisville, ky 40213, (888) 214-1809) where it was diagnosed that the engine assembly needed to be replaced. The contact was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 17v224000 (engine and engine cooling). The manufacturer was notified of the failure and provided no solution other than the dealer replacing the part. In addition, the dealer replaced the ignition switch per an unknown recall. The contact had two keys and the dealer later provided one key, stating that the contact would need to pay for the second key. The failure mileage was not available.
