I had 2 hecu repairs done on the vehicle per the recalls. A year after the abs, anti skid and low tire warning light indicator came on suddenly and there was a "burning odor" noted. I went to the dealership immediately and they were unable to take a look at it for almost 1 week. I took the vehicle to a brake shop and they identified the abs was on even when the vehicle was turned off. They stated this could cause a fire, but they weren't able to repair as kia vehicles have require programming when the system is installed/modified. The brake shop strongly encouraged me to remove the fuse for the abs to decrease the risk of fire, part away from other vehicles and structures--which I agreed to. I made an appointment with the kia dealer for their next available date. . . Which was 10 days out. At the service desk I explained everything and told them the fuse was not in due to the risk of fire. 1 1/2 hours later they called to tell me the issue was that the fuse was not installed!! I restated what I told them originally. . . They said they needed the fuse to troubleshoot the issue. They then informed me they did not have any fuses---which seems to be an issue. I called the brake shop and they gave me 2 fuses and I took to the dealer. The dealership evaluated and said the abs module was defective and since the car was out of warranty, I would need to pay for the repair. I asked about the recall, but was told that kia would not pay for it. I paid for the part, they ordered it. . . And the first new abs was installed and was defective, they ordered a second abs and it can in defective as well. The 3rd abs arrived almost 1 week later and fortunately this was good. Since most of our travel is on I-95 or turnpike the abs could have locked up and caused the vehicle to stop instantly as I have been told. This could have causes a severe accident. Given that 2 new abs modules were delivered. . . This indicates that kia has a further issue with their brake systems.
The contact owns a 2014 kia Sorento. The contact stated that the vehicle was previously repaired under NHTSA campaign number: 20v519000 (service brakes, hydraulic; however, while driving at 25 mph and attempting to make a u-turn, the vehicle stalled inadvertently. There were no warning lights illuminated. The contact was unable to restart the vehicle. The contact pushed the vehicle to the side of the road with the assistance of a bystander. The contact was unable to restart the vehicle after several attempts. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was then towed to the dealer who diagnosed that the engine needed to be replaced. The dealer sent a claim to the manufacturer and was awaiting a response. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 93,000.
On 2/15/22, I accelerated to pass another car while driving home from work. As soon as I accelerated, my car stopped running. I coasted to the next turnoff from a busy street (about 1 block) and stopped at the curb in a residential area. The control panel/dashboard was completely dark, then suddenly lit up again. I tried to start the car but couldn't because I was unable to depress the brake. I waited a few minutes and tried again and a small amount of smoke came out from under the hood. In a minute that went away. At this time, I was very near my house and walked home. When I got there I called the kia dealership (local) and described what happened. They asked if there had been a 'check engine' or other warning message before this happened and I told them there had not been. I said I guess I would have to have the car towed in to them to see what was wrong. I was told they would call back. While waiting for someone to call back, I walked back to my car. (all of this took less than 10 - 12 minutes. ) as I turned the corner I saw police cars and a firetruck where my car was parked. The fire had been put out and there was only a shell of the car left; the entire motor and everything inside was destroyed. Later, my insurance company declared it a total loss. A neighbor saw flames and had called the fire department. There was some damage to the neighbor's yard - grass and shrubbery. The police called a wrecking service to tow the car. It was later picked up by my insurance CO. No one was injured, thankfully; but I can only imagine what would have happened if I had made it home and parked in my garage. The local kia dealership never called back. I called a week or so after this happened and was told they would have someone call me and no one called (again).
The contact owns a 2014 kia Sorento. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 23v652000 (service brakes, hydraulic) however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The contact stated while driving approximately 65 mph, the vehicle started losing motive power. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The contact was able to coast off to the side of the highway and then noticed smoke coming from underneath the vehicle. The contact did not open the hood and had the vehicle towed to an unknown dealer. The contact stated the dealer advised that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown. VIN tool confirms parts not available.
I received notice mid August 2021 about recall and warranty repairs that needed to be made to my car. Brought it to the dealer on 8/30/21. On 8/31/21 I was given the car back and told, yes, it needed the repairs but I needed to wait for parts and they'd be in touch. I have heard nothing from kia, despite complaining to them several times.
Approx. 38000 miles on vehicle. Approx. 25 miles ago the abs and the “anti skid” lights came up on the dashboard. Approx. 15 miles ago the tpms light came on, flashed then steady. (checked tires at a repair shop, no low tire pressure). I checked my owners manual, not an “urgent” or “immediate” situation, but contact the dealer. Through NHTSA website saw a recall and tsbs for these issues. Kia dealership saying recall isn’t for my vehicle, and the tsbs are not covered under my extended warranty. If these issues are a safety issue, should they not be covered? I just want to document these issues, the kia dealership (gettel in bradenton, FL) and kia customer service, if something happens, damages my vehicle or causes, creates an incident I want a record to exist. Am I in danger, are other motorists?.
My brake lights won’t go off unless I press the brakes and emergency blinking lights. My vehicle is stalling when I’m driving. It will just start decreasing speed like it’s trying to stop and I can only be doing 40mph. I can’t put in in gear from park if the car is still running. I have to cut it off and turn it back on to change gears and I don’t have to press the brake for it to come back on.

The contact owns a 2014 kia Sorento. The contact stated that the anti-lock brakes warning light was illuminated. The contact took the vehicle to a certified mechanic who replaced an unknown part however, the failure reoccurred. The contact referenced an unknown recall related to the abs system. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA for assistance. The approximate failure mileage 116,000.
This car has had numerous recalls including a major one in which they had to replace the engine (they did it on this car). Now I have the abs, esc and tire pressure lights on (with tire pressure at the correct readings) which I believe is related to the latest abs recall they had. Unfortunately, my car was manufactured on March 2013, their latest abs recall (which may start a fire) only includes this model and year starting June 2013. I believe, my car should also qualify for this recall. Thank you.
Pearl pain is peeling and chipping. Went thru car wash and it chipped hood car wash paid for it to be repaired. Then on 9/15/20 it was raining and the rain chipped the paint on the door frame. Nothing hit it or damaged it I was driving but the rain peeled my paint. That's when I decided to do some research because there is no reason why my paint should chip like that and found out that the paint is faulty. I also discover there was a recall due to faulty break lines and leaks and I believe I may have a break leak because everytime its time for an oil change the break light comes on and once they put fluid in it it goes off. My upkeep has been immaculate since owning this car and all of these issues I believe are due to factory defect.
The contact's fiancé owns a 2014 kia Sorento. The contact stated the vehicle engine had been misfiring and the brake fluid had been leaking onto the fuse block. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where they had replaced the spark plugs however, the failure continued. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer where it was diagnosed with the fuse box and power relay control was needing to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but did not provide any assistance as a case was opened. The vehicle was not repaired due to the fact that the contact would be responsible for the repair cost. The approximate failure mileage was 126,000.
The engine problems I started experiencing 1. Car hesitates when accelerating, 2. Knocking noise from engine, lack of power low oil pressure, when I put oil in the car, seems like the next days its low again,(empty)I spent many dollars on oil, I had the oil changed every 3 months sometimes at (kia) because I get free oil change, and most at jiffy lube, here lately, the oil seems to be burning more, check engine light is flashing off and on , the car is unsafe to drive. The car is in my garage. 3. The back brakes went out , suddenly, coat me 500. 00 dollars. Unacceptable the brakes completely , went out. There was a problem with the back brakes I was told by the kia dealer at evergreen chicago, 4. Low mileage, charcoal canister fell off, the brackets broke off, but we tied it back up, getting low mileage, I am upset because I am paying for this car, monthly, and now I am experiencing these problem ,unacceptable these cars has had engine recalls. Fuel recalls etc. The charcoal canister fell off , first I had it wrap up, the car was still running . The problem with the engine started Nov - Dec -2019.
Abs and traction control light goes on and off as I am driving. Sometimes, the speedometer moves quickly over the incorrect speeds so I have no clue what speed I am going. It's only a four year old car with 56,000 miles. Also, same vehicle has issue with the gas tank door. Cannot open using the switch inside the car. Must use the emergency pull inside a trunk compartment.
When braking, brakes give out and car skids. On turns, I have to pump brakes to try and regain control.
Car does perfectly fine for two weeks then runs through radiator fluid and oil like it's crazy has not thrown a check engine light has had multiple maintenance is fixes we have literally almost had a severe accident because the car started to smoke and had the radiator cap almost explode off of it . And it literally was driving on a normal speed going about 75 mph-80mph, on the highway when suddenly it goes to a complete and utter 20 mph with her to the floor this car has been nothing but trouble it's been taken care of it's barely driven from our time of purchase. And the amount of certified veteran kia. Mechanics all having no idea what's wrong because when they think they know what the fixlast but a week or two been paying for a rental car for almost a year now while still paying my payment on a kia that cuomo has no recall and almost killed my entire family on the I 40 in eastern north carolina in the dark as well when it was an icy stormy road that I just been cleared we could've died and god knows what we could've done to others the road was safe take it into multiple kia certified mechanics that your mechanics mom and pop mechanics two dealerships and nobody can figure out the problem this is the most disgusting thing that has ever happened to my family I have a car that has been sitting at a mechanic shop all over eastern north carolina forever year now or in my driveway that I just pay on and pay a mechanic bills for because nobody can figure out why it over he eats why the speed why I almost catches on fire and white and black system break or the brake system and speed system is completely haywire. My family's or my wife dream vehicle is been our nightmare. I have plenty of bills I can upload here the date below is the date that I've been paying for to sit in my driveway and for it to be looked at mechanics for them to fix some thing and nothing be resolved.
Takata recall I purchased my kia index 2014. Immediately the paint started bubbling and then peeling around the windshield and hood. We called kia and they said this is not covered. Also we get recalls about the engine. I never had a problem until I took it in. The first recall I got they drained the oil and took oil pan off my car. The second one not sure what they did to it but it was about. The engine. Now I have to put oil in my vehicle about once a week. The door locks don't work the keyless entry will let you in but you have to lock all your doors by walking around the vehicle. The headlights keeps, blowing. I have probably put 10 headlights in my car over the past year. Now my abs traction control and low light for tires is on and will not go offf it amazes me that there are no open recall on thus vehicle I am sure it will not last me until I pay it off. This is the worst vehicle I have ever owned.
The contact owns a 2014 kia Sorento. When the contact attempted to accelerate, the vehicle jolted three times before accelerating. The failure recurred three times without warning. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer who inspected the vehicle and found no failures. The failure recurred on a different day. On another occasion, while driving approximately 15 mph, the vehicle lost steering and braking ability. As a result, the vehicle drove into a ditch. The brake and steering ability returned and the contact drove to another local dealer who was also unable to find the cause of the failures. The manufacturer was made aware of the failures and followed up with the dealers, but the cause of the failures was not determined. The contact was told to drive the vehicle until the failure recurred. The failure mileage was approximately 41,000.
I pressed on my brakes to avoid hitting the car in front of me. The car veered left and started to swerve. It started spinning out of control.
The suspension in the slightest bump that falls, it does not protect it hits dry it has no support, the steering wheel from zero miles is a rattle even though we take it to its guarantee they never fixed it, in the same way the brake discs to the emergency braking as they skid, sweep; you have to step on the pedal several times for it to respond . . .
Aug 5 2014 was driving home engine just stopped, which makes braking and steering very difficult. Got engine started after a few tries ,drove home without further incident. Called kia, had towed to local dealer. Dealer could not find any codes or problems. Mileage 9500. On Jan 7 2015 car would not start in parking lot at work. Managed to get started, drove 500 yards and engine quit at a stop light. Restarted engine, started up a hill and after 500 yards or so engine quit again. Restarted again continued home without incident. On Jan 7 2015 left work, engine quit again. Restarted and continued on. After 8 miles engine quit while traveling up a slope on snow covered road. Car slid backwards into a ditch. Restarted again, pulled the car from ditch, continued on. After a mile, engine quit again. Restarted and continued home without incident . Mileage 14000. Called kia upon arriving home. They arranged a loaner car for us and we took Sorento to local dealer again. Dealer put 30 miles on car without incident and checked computer for codes. None found. Kia engineering instructed them to check all grounds. No problems found. Kia engineering is currently sending a data recorder to dealer for installation on car for 30 days to monitor systems. Hopefully we will have the same problem so data recorder can pick up the problem. Only problem is we are scared to drive the car for fear of a major accident. Kia does not seem concerned at all about our well being or anyone else's should we be in or cause an accident. Kia actually told us they were not worried about hypothetical situations. Mind you we live in northwest PA. The weather is less than hospitable much of the time during the winter months.
Since buying the 2014 kia fwd 4-cyl vehicle, I have had about 5 instances where the car would not start after I pressed the brake pedal and then the ignition switch. Kia and Hyundai had brake switch issues in models circa 2011 and earlier, but I could not find anything about whether kia fixed the problem in subsequent model years. During my incidents I have repeated the above steps trying to start the non-responsive vehicle until it inexplicably started up; took over 10 re-tries each time this problem occurred. I am taking the vehicle into the dealer on Monday 11/4/13 asking them to fix the problem.
