Car never has had engine issues and gets regular, routine maintenance. I had my oil changed three weeks ago as I do every few thousand miles. I was driving the other day and the engine started to sieze. The oil pressure light came on while driving. There was no oil in the car. Car was towed to mechanic and no cracks/leaks were found. There is a safety recall currently for the engine bearings being prematurely worn causing engine to malfunction and sieze. My VIN was not listed under this recall, however, the mechanic suggested it is an internal/engine problem, thus quite likely due to these worn bearings in the engine.

My moo roof shattered for the second time in 5 years. Nothing hit it, it was parked the first time and we just happened to be standing next to it and heard it start to shatter, yesterday I got in it after it was parked in my garage started to drive and heard this pop/ crackling sound and it happened again! this can't be bad luck twice in a row like this. I did nothing to it, was not hit by anything and now again, shattered!.
I was driving straight in a grain silo town in kansas (coming up on oakley from colorado springs) and there were no cars around me. The weather wasn't drastically changing and there was no adverse weather. Suddenly, it sounds as though there was an explosion on the top of my car. The fabric partition that separates the sunroof from the interior of the car starts shaking violently in the wind and there was some glass shards that fell into the car. It goes without saying that the incident scared both me and my two kids who were in the car with me. I pulled over to the closest gas station and took a look at the damage (seen in the picture below). As I had the rest of my road trip to accomplish (kansas city, mo), my husband met me in oakley, KS with his car and we made the exchange. I am a very meticulous driver who inspects everything before a road trip: tire pressure, window cracks, interior is intact, drastic change in weather along the trip, etc. I would have never thought to look at the sunroof and even if I did, I'm not sure I would have found anything. If I were driving on a major highway I could write this whole incident off as maybe a stray rock. However, there was nothing around me.

When I used my defrost this crack came up and kept spreading while I was driving. And I have not been in a wreck with this vehicle.
As I was driving home at 35 mph across a busy bridge in the city what sounded like a bomb went off and then shards of glass pouring into the car and all over me. My sun roof had exploded and for no apparent reason. No known cracks or chips were ever previously noticed.

I was driving in a normal freeway, beautiful day, suddenly for not reason my fron windshield got a crack, out of the blue, very scary. I did call kia right the way, I told them I was driving from la to san francisco on the freeway 5, on vacation for 4 days, what happen, I was afraid the crack continue expanding, they told me to take the car to a dealer & they will take care of it - when I came back after my vacation with the kids, we called went to dealer kia in glendale, they said was a rock!! won't cover it, I called manufacturer again, they said don't worry go again to dealer they will help you out, nobody is helping us, car is not safe, we had been mistreated, verbally abuse 7 nobody is doing anything to help us out. Car was brand new, less than 30 days, defective, you can trust this car, it is a rip off!! very upsted & deapointed with kia, 1st and last time. I have been driving for over 30 years, never had a situation like this with any car.

Our car has a third row with two seats in the back and we put 2 people on each row. We had a steel trailer hitch cargo carrier hanging on the back of the car. We have used this device many times with our other 2007 kia Sorento with no problems of any kind. We had four large tubs with lids and each of the 4 kids would get a tub to hold their suitcases. These tubs were connected to the cargo carrier with bungie cords. We had planned to spend the night in las vegas and after a 5-hour drive, we arrived at the hotel & we noticed that the tub on the bottom starboard side had been burned significantly. Upon further investigation, we learned that the exhaust pipe was part of the bumper system and that it had heated the one tub and the cargo carrier to such high temperatures as to cause a fire inside the tub. It had melted the tub to the cargo carrier and burned a big hole in the side of the tub. The suitcase inside the tub had a huge black hole in the side and all of its contents were burned or scorched. Since the fire was no longer burning, we decided to not call the las vegas fire department as the threat was over. The next day, before we left las vegas, we went to home depot and found some materials and crafted an aluminum shield to block the exhaust from hitting the cargo carrier. Then we were able to reach our destination in seal beach CA. When we took the cargo carrier off the car, we saw that several of the bungie cords had been melted right to the cargo carrier. Through our assessment, we determined that the damages done to the cargo carrier, the bungie cords, the tub, the suitcase and all of its (mostly brand new) contents to be about $1547. 15. This did not count the cost to build a deflector so we could continue our trip. It in no way counts the discomfort and trauma my family suffered from this event.

I was driving down the highway with my 7 month old baby in the backseat in his child seat. I was about 10 miles into my drive when I heard a puff and a small whistle of air. I thought my passenger window had come down some or maybe I had left the door opened and it was letting air in. When I tried to put my ear closer to the sound I heard it coming from the top of my car. I turned to the sunroof cover and slid it open slightly to see what happened and I immediately noticed the whole glass was cracked. As I kept going down the road I could hear small pieces of glass falling off and into the slot where the sunroof slides into. If I would have had that open there could have been sharp pieces of glass that could have fallen onto my baby.

This morning I was in a city street had just left home and turn on the front defogger, after 2-3 min. I noticed some smoke and smelled something burning. Then I heard a crackling sound. I looked around and didnt know what was burning. I then turned around to head back home. There was no one else on the road. I then turned off the defogger and noticed the cracking sound was my windshield had cracked from the bottom left side above where the VIN # is located. Now im afraid that my truck will catch on fire if I turn on the front defogger. So, I wondering if you have received any complaints regarding the defogger.

While driving approximately 35 mph, the rear of the vehicle shook violently. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who noticed that the crossmember bars were severely corroded through and were not able to be repaired. The vehicle was not repaired. Major safety hazard. The entire bracket holding the differential rusted through. The frame rear cross member also rusted through causing the control arms is detached from the rear end also creating a safety hazard.

This is a follow up to NHTSA id number's 10819147 & 10824199. After filing vsc 10824199, I was contacted by a kia America representative from California. She requested a copy of my original bill of sale, the vehicle registration and the repair estimate from the dealer to repair the repair upper control arm brackets. She did not request any other documentation or pictures. She said she would review the case and speal to the dealer and depending on the cost would either have the repair completed or purchase the car to be scrapped for kbv. I received a call today and was informed that the repair would cost at least $3,000 and because the vehicle was 10 years old and not in the repair program ( I assume that was being done in the uk) kia would offer me $1,500 for the car. I asked if the vehicle was safe to drive in it's present condition and was told I should contact the dealer. I told the representative that the dealer did not give me any warnings when the estimate was completed. I was also told that "at least I had gotten 10 years of use out of the vehicle". Seeing as there is still a repair program in effect in the united kingdom for this defect is the ntsb going to require kia yo make these repairs in the us?.
This is a follow up to NHTSA id numbers, 10819147, 10824199,10838525 and 10838531. I further researched the crossmember corrosion may cause loose control arm in the kia Sorento's and found that in europe kia issued the attached service bulletin to attempt to correct this issue before the brackets rusted out. Based on kia Sorento vehicle sales in the us from 2002 to 2008 (the production range noted on the attached service bulletin) this issue could possibly affect up to approx. 266,000 vehicles.
Driving on mild summer day (~70¿). Lightly-packed cartop carrier affixed properly/safely to kia crossbars (installed by kia). Driving on interstate highway with "passing lane" traffic (about 75mph). Running ac at about 70¿ inside, with all windows up. Panoramic sunroof closed, with inner soft sunshade also closed. About three hours into five hour drive. Suddenly, without any visual warning (e. G. , rock, shard), we hear an *explosion* sound from above, along with the sound of glass clanging everywhere and the rush of highway air. I quickly switch my hazards on, decelerate, and pull off the road as quickly as I can. I noticed that no neighboring vehicles as much as flinched during the incident, nor did anyone stop . . . As if nothing appeared to have happened externally from their point of view. When we got out to investigate, we saw that the front major pane of the panoramic sunroof had completely shattered center-out, probably about 2sqft of glass missing. Notably, several edges around the newly-formed hole were upturned. Those are all the details I can remember. My very strong belief is that the sunroof exploded without any external debris involved. The position of the cartop carrier relative to the hole, my vehicle's position relative to other cars/trucks (not terribly close), the fact that I saw no object hurtling toward the vehicle prior to the incident, the fact that no object was found in between the roof and the inner sunshade, the fact that no other cars/trucks behind me reacted . . . All the signs point to something simply being wrong with the vehicle.
Driver side axle broke in June 2015 and July 9, 2015 passenger side axle cracked and passenger side hub assembly went bad. Making a rattling, metal grinding noise. When the Sorento was raised up the whole underneath is rusted out. Im lucky I didnt have a major accident. Should be recalled for safety issues.
I went to get my oil changed on/around 9/5 and they wouldn't change it due to severe rust damage that had rusted through the oil pan, brake line, at least one crack in the frame from rust, and the tires are barely held on to the car due to rust damage. Now my brakes don't work but I still have to drive the car. I went to 2 other shops and no one will work on my car due to it falling apart from rust. I purchase my car at abc motor credit August of 2013 and re-located to florida before winter hit. I called them and they referred me their warranty company, lisa warranty group. Of course, rust damage and frame work is not covered. Abc motor credit sold me a car that should have been totaled, not re-sold to a consumer for $12,000!! I have tried 5 different dealerships to help get into a newer, safer vehicle, but no one will finance me due to the negative equity on this loan. Is there anything I can do? I should not be stuck paying $367 a month for the next 2 years after already investing over $4,000 into a useless vehicle. I have to conclude that abc motor credit sold me this car fully knowing the extent of the rust damage before putting it on their lot. I hope there is some law protecting consumers from this sort of business. Please let me know what I can do!.
The vehicle is making a noise coming from the rear end. I had the dealer where I purchased the kia Sorento diagnose the problem. They confirmed rear carrier assembly ( rear differential gears) needed to be replaced at a cost of $1942. 00. Upon further research I found out it's a common problem with that year vehicle due to sub-standard supplier parts. Vechicle warranty 5yr/60,000 mlies ;not covered. I believe this is a premature and a manufacturer defect , that makes the vehicle unsafe and a danger on the road. The vehicle has lose power (not stalled) while driving the vehicle(not sure if related to problem.
