2 Cruise Control problem of the 2014 Kia Motor Sorento

Failure Date: 08/01/2020

The white pearl paint is rapidly chipping off from the roof above the drivers seat. This is a very common and know issue on all kia Sorento's beginning in 2011 into the latest models with white pearl paint. There are multiple forum postings and facebook groups discussing this issue. Separately, all steering wheel control buttons have stopped working (volume, radio tuner, cruise control, etc. ). Before the controls completely went out the cruise control was extremely dangerous to use and would speed up on continuously on its own without driver input. Pressing the deceleration button would also make it accelerate if cruise control was set.

3 Cruise Control problem of the 2014 Kia Motor Sorento

Failure Date: 07/18/2020

My vehicle keeps having issues with oil. I get regular oil changes an I have to put oil in it either every 2weeks even after an oil change. I have had an oil compsumption test an have been told that there is nothing wrong with my car. There are no oil leaks at all. I was on the highway in cruise control when it all of sudden came out of cruise control then I noticed my rpm gauge wasn't working also. I then came to a light an when I started to go I noticed my car being sluggish to reach 60mph. I at one time had my pedal to the floor. It also acted like it wanted to stall on me. I made it home an into my driveway where I turned it off an back on which at that point my rmp gauge started working an the car acted normal. I have asked kia about this problem numerous of times an I get no where. They say well we see that the consumption test came back in the standard range. I have no leaks an I have to put oil in my car on a regular bases. I can be only 4,000 after an oil change an feel it actiing up an then I ck my oil an my dip stick is clean no oil so then I have to add more oil. I am concerned that I will be on the highway an my car will just shut down. My car is always moving when I have these problems. I keep getting the run around about this issue.

4 Cruise Control problem of the 2019 Kia Motor Sorento

Failure Date: 05/11/2020

When cruise control is set or just starting the kia and going it will without warning surge, jerk, and jump. The rpm needle will show acceleration from 2. 5 rpm and it jumps to 4. 5 rpm and stays their for awhile before going back down to 2. 5 rpm. This happens without notice and not on any incline or declines, it's on straight aways. This also happens at any speed when the cruise control is set or when just starting the kia and going. It's not just on the highway when this happens it also happens in city streets. It first only started happening when it was cold out but now it's happening even with warmer weather. I've taken it to kia of duluth many times and always get told nothing is wrong or to just change the drive mode from Smart to eco but it doesn't make a difference and it has been doing this since I got the kia which was 16 months ago.

5 Cruise Control problem of the 2015 Kia Motor Sorento

Failure Date: 12/22/2019

My son was pulled over and the officer said there were no operating rear lights. Noticed that you have to turn them on and off to come on. Then on another day there were no brakes gets lights either. I informed southwest kia mesquite of the problem. They said that it was the light switch because one of their other models have the same issue and there was a recall on that model. They charged me to fix this saying although it was recalled in their other model the Sorento was not recalled. After they installed they said I should have no problems with the lights and brake lights. They even did another insepction a week or so later (12/20/2019) saying that my car was safe to travel and everything was fine. While on the road trip with my family we noticed that the two main brake lights were not working and the cruise control was not working. We tried turning lights on and off and they still didnt work. Kia has placed my family in danger. We are out of state and have no way of getting the car back to texas safely. Kia has exhausted all of my money and they have not fixed anything. The car is unsafe. I googled and found thatb a lot of people are driving around with kia's with no brake lights. They wont own up that something is wring with the Sorento, cruise control system, back and brake lights. My rear lights shut off in the middle of driving. Is kia waiting for fatalities before they deal with this safety issues with the Sorento? how mucch longer are they going to continue to rip people off and leave them and their families unsafe? I transport kids as I am a child protective services caseworker and this vehicle is not safe for anyone. Its unfortunate that kia has exhausted all of my funds that I can't rent nor get another car while out of state for christmas stuck on the road.

6 Cruise Control problem of the 2017 Kia Motor Sorento

Failure Date: 12/16/2019

1 week after purchasing my 2017 kia Sorento fe awd from rochester tom kadlec kia in August 2019, I went to use my cruise control and it wouldn't set. "cruise" came on, but could not be set to my speed. Issue happened around 1-2 times a week on 45 mile commute on highway. Later on about a month later, I set my cruise control and once set, the speed began to climb. Starting at 65, and going up to 70 before I had to use my brakes to turn cruise control off as the buttons didn't work. On Dec 16th, my car showed a check engine light then stalled after putting it into drive from reverse. I turned the car off, then back on and drove "normally". Took it into the shop same day for an oil change and they read the codes, "p2106, p2110, p063 limp mode and throttle actuator control range" they also noted my vehicle has a timing cover gasket and oil pan gasket leak, and my battery tested at 12. 39volts and 339cca out of 640cca. Recommended battery replacement. My shop asked me to check the dealership for my warranty, and it's 5 years or 60,000 miles. I came into the shop at 62,334 miles. The kia dealership refused to look into the issue unless I paid 160 for their own inspection, and even then, it'd be highly unlikely they would do any goodwill repair. Replaced battery 12/26/19 after multiple failures and jumps to start, and finally wouldn't take a charge or jump.

11 Cruise Control problem of the 2011 Kia Motor Sorento

Failure Date: 07/28/2018

While driving back from oregon to idaho I was in cruise control going approximately 67mph and the vehicle lost power. I pressed on the gas and nothing so I disabled the cruise control and again attempted to press on the gas and it continued to lose power so I pulled onto the side of the road. Turned the car off and tried to start it again and it would not start. It had been to the mechanic that week to be checked out and when it was towed back the mechanic reported it had blown two cylinders.

12 Cruise Control problem of the 2017 Kia Motor Sorento

Failure Date: 07/15/2018

After using cruise control for approx. 4 hours, the computer in our car suddenly shut off the cruise control on its own and the parking break light illuminated on our dash panel. Brake however was not engaged. Another amber colored warning light was illuminated but I can't recall what it said. We pulled over, turned car off and when we started it back up, the brake light was no longer on and we were able to resume using cruise control. There was a previous incident where the cruise control deactivated itself while driving but not sudden stops initiated it or warning lights came on when this happened.

13 Cruise Control problem of the 2016 Kia Motor Sorento

Failure Date: 05/24/2017

On 6 separate occasions I had my cruise control on on the highway. After either touching my brake or touching the cancel button the control cancelled itself. However 5 times going up the hill by my house and once on a side street the cruise control engaged itself and started to speed up I assume to highway speed. At all times I touched the brake or cancel button and it shut off. I just fell uneasy about this because I fear one day I may not be able to shut it off. I am an a well experienced driver I have driven everything from motorcycles to buses and tractor trailers over 50 years and this concerns me.

14 Cruise Control problem of the 2011 Kia Motor Sorento

Failure Date: 11/19/2016

After our purchase of the vehicle, the cancel button would get stuck at the top of the button. Therefore not being able to turn off the cruise control system completely. Without the brake switch it could cause the cruise control to not disengage.

15 Cruise Control problem of the 2017 Kia Motor Sorento

Failure Date: 10/03/2016

This problem is identical to NHTSA id number 10917569. On three different occasions the Smart cruise control/abs/stability control warning: basically all warning lights lit on the dashboard. Car had less than 500 miles, doing 65mph on a clear day. Stopped and restarted car, all light s cleared. Dealer found no codes stored. So far it has only happened when using the ldws. Leave it off it never occurs.

16 Cruise Control problem of the 2017 Kia Motor Sorento

Failure Date: 09/22/2016

Problem: intermittent problem with advanced Smart cruise control and autonomous braking on a new 2017 kia Sorento with less than 1100 miles. What happened: when using the advanced Smart control feature, the Smart cruise control will shut down randomly. On four occasions, while driving with Smart cruise control, on a highway on a clear day, my kia's dashboard lit up with "check Smart cruise control system. " these additional warning lights lit up on the dashboard: anti-lock brake warning light, electronic brake force distribution system warning light, master warning light, and electronic stability control indicator light. The cruise control will not work and all lights stay on until the vehicle is turned off and then back on. After one occurrence, I took the vehicle to the dealer to diagnose the problem. As this only happens randomly they were not able to replicate the problem. The vehicle was also not storing any diagnostic codes. After the 3rd time it was in the dealer for the same issue they said a code was stored. They said it had something to do with the camera mounted on the top of the windshield. The service tech disconnected and reconnected the camera with the thought that it might be a loose connection. The same issue happened again after they adjusted the camera. They have a new camera on order but it is not in stock anywhere in the country. This is a serious safety concern. I contacted Kia Motors consumer affairs several times, and they just send me back to the dealer. Problem is still unsolved.

17 Cruise Control problem of the 2017 Kia Motor Sorento

Failure Date: 09/15/2016

Problem: intermittent problem with advanced Smart cruise control and autonomous braking on a new 2017 kia Sorento with less than 500 miles. What happened: when using the advanced Smart control feature, as explained to me by the dealer, the manual, and kia videos, the car will stop autonomously when approaching a car at a stop light. My kia stops autonomously most of the time, but not all of the time. On three occasions, while driving with Smart cruise control, on a straight road on a clear day, my kia slowed down but did not stop, causing me to take emergency evasive action at the last second. After two occurrences, I contacted the dealer and asked to simply have the system checked. The dealer stated that they do not handle safety concerns, and directed me to call kia, which I did more than a month ago. The kia rep tried to tell me that the vehicle cannot stop while using advanced Smart cruise control, despite their tv ads, instructional videos, and my own experiences which says the car does indeed stop in the Smart cruise control mode. The kia rep said someone from kia would follow-up, but that never happened. So, afert waiting more than a month, I am filing this report to see if others are experiencing problems with this critical safety technology. Otherwise, the kia operates normally and is a very nice SUV. I just want my Sorento checked out before an accident occurs.

18 Cruise Control problem of the 2016 Kia Motor Sorento

Failure Date: 08/01/2016

The contact owns a 2016 kia Sorento. While driving highway speeds with the cruise control activated, the system would not deactivate when pressing the cancel button. The contact indicated that the brake pedal needed to be depressed to deactivate the cruise control. On some occasions, the cruise control system could not be immediately activated. The vehicle was taken to regal kia of lakeland, florida, but the failure was unable to be duplicated. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 3,000.

19 Cruise Control problem of the 2006 Kia Motor Sorento

Failure Date: 04/06/2015

I purchased a 2006 kia Sorento from an individual. Without any warning the tail lights, signal lights, cruise control, emergency blinkers, and windows quit working all at once. I have been doing research and see that this vehicle has a lot of complaints with electrical issues. Also, in 2009 there was a recall. I need to get this recall checked into and also my vehicle needs to be fixed.

20 Cruise Control problem of the 2011 Kia Motor Sorento

Failure Date: 11/15/2014

This is the most recent and serious electric issue; I do not know the exact dates of earlier issues. I believe all these electric issues are related. Issues began in 2010 after the purchase of the car. Was taken to the dealer for electrical issue and they repaired lose cluster array. Other electric issues from 2011-2013: when turning left the downhill brake control indicator would light would come on and prevent the car being put into park, the headlights flicker when car is at a stop, driver side low beam headlight frequently burns out. December 2013-January 2014: all dash indicator lights malfunctioned (no warning lights/gauges, including fuel, speed, turn signals, low fuel indicator, etc. ). Dealer found the factory cluster array to be faulty. The dealer replaced the cluster with a new one. I am reporting the following: I was traveling 65mph and turned the cruise control off, the abs warning, downhill brake control, electronic stability control indicator and 4wd auto lock lights all illuminated. The car was operating normally. Today, all of these lights came, stayed on, then went off. Upon driving, the electronic stability control light came on and the car downshifted as I was driving. All other of indicator lights noted came back on. I am taking my car back to the dealer tomorrow. Many other kia owners are reporting almost identical issues. This most recent incident occurred when I was traveling at a high rate of speed and follows a serious of electrical issues I have had since I owned my car, new from the dealer. Something is wrong at the manufacturing level that needs to be addressed before someone is killed.

21 Cruise Control problem of the 2011 Kia Motor Sorento

Failure Date: 05/31/2013

I was driving with the cruise control set at 70 and suddenly the car accelerated on its own (sounded as if someone had floored the gas pedal). I tapped the brake and when I looked at the dash multiple indicator lights were lit. After tapping the brake the engine continued to run but the accelerator would not work. I came to a stop on the shoulder- at this point the engine oil pressure light and engine malfunction lights were illuminated. I turned the car off. Tried to restart after few minutes and it would not start. A few minutes later it did start but sounded bad. I contacted kia and was told to have vehicle towed to dealership and a regional kia rep would investigate my vehicle (what that means, I don't know quite yet).

22 Cruise Control problem of the 2011 Kia Motor Sorento

Failure Date: 08/19/2012

On 9/19/2012 at 12:17 pm I took a frantic call from my wife. She had just stopped to fill up with gas, got back on the interstate and set the cruise control at around 75 mph. Shortly afterwards the front end started shaking and the vehicle started to lose speed. She shut off the cruise and was looking for a place to pull over when the vehicle started to accelerate on its own. It was already going over 80 mph when she called. I told her to stand on the brakes-no effect. I told her to put her foot on the brake and to push and hold the start button for 10 seconds-nothing (that is the override to get the car started when the brake switch malfunctions-we had just had it replaced at the dealership 2 weeks prior). I told her to shift it into neutral-the shifter is locked in drive. I told her to shift to a lower gear-it won't move. After 4 minutes the car was going over 85 mph-I told her to hang up & call 911 as she could tell them where she was much better than I could. A few minutes later I received a call from the highway patrol-they had 2 cruisers on the interstate with her trying to clear traffic ahead of her. I asked if they could get a cruiser ahead of her and let her nose up behind it and then use the cruiser to stop her. Evidently they didn't like that idea or it is against policy because they never did try that. The dispatcher had to hang up to concentrate on the situation at hand. I now had the dispatcher's number so I could call her back. At one point I called back and suggested that she engage the cruise control and try to slow the car with it. My wife does not remember ever trying this. This went on for about 45 minutes at speeds up to 119 mph. At the end one of the officers told her to put her left foot on the brake and pull up on the accelerator with her right foot at the same time. She went from over 100 mph to under 50 mph instantly, let go of the pedals.

23 Cruise Control problem of the 2012 Kia Motor Sorento

Failure Date: 08/12/2012

On 08/12/12 while driving in cruise control at approximately 72-74 mph, I eased out into the passing lane to put myself behind someone going faster. The car suddenly downshifted and accelerated with maximum throttle. I touched the brake pedal moderately to disconnect the cruise control. The car continued at maximum acceleration and in the passing gear. I then applied the brakes with great vigor and the cruise control disconnected and the vehicle slowed down. After a short while I reactivated the cruise control and drove about 60 miles without any further malfunction. I presented the car to the kia dealer service advisor. The car was checked and I was told they could find nothing wrong with the cruise control. I asked them if they reported these very dangerous observations to kia or NHTSA. They said no they never do. Incidental to this event, I had an engine malfunction light on 7/25/12. I took it in for service the next day and told it was a transmission heat sensor. A part was ordered and I was told to drive the car normally. Within several days, I became aware the cruise control was not activating when driving the first time in a day. But if the engine was stopped and restarted, the cruise control worked normally. I duplicated this 3 distinct times exactly as written. The service department was not able to link the difficulty to anything they had seen or read, they summerized it may have been a brake light sensor that failed but the computer dispelled that notion.

24 Cruise Control problem of the 2008 Kia Motor Sorento

Failure Date: 12/08/2011

I have no rear brake light. The esc off light comes on in the dash. I can turn on the cruise control but I can't set a speed for cruise control. I have a remote starter that has a safety switch when the brake is pressed turns the remote starter off that isn't working correctly cause there is no signal that the brake has been pressed.

25 Cruise Control problem of the 2011 Kia Motor Sorento

Failure Date: 07/01/2011

The date above is the first date there was a indication of a problem. The actual speed of travel has varied. The issue is random and has affected most systems at one time or the other. It has normally been a headache more than safety always going away after shutting the car down and restarting. To me it became a safety issue when about two months ago I heard a loud bang like I hit something and then my rpms increased and the transmission would not shift out of the lower gears. I pulled into a safe parking area, shut the car down and called the dealer. After restarting the car the problem went away, just as it has every time no matter what system has been affected. The issues have ranged from a cruise control refusing to activate, the cruise control having erratic behavior (often kicking in the passing gear when not required), total electronic panel shutdown (including radio), to doors locking on their own when open, to headlights not being turned off when they should have been after 2-30 seconds. The transmission issue has been the most serious. The car should have already been serviced under a similar recall. I have noted similar complaints including a similar transmission compliant on kia forums. Kia itself refused to give the go ahead for a computer reset/upgrade. My dealer did this on his own for me after I made it clear this has gone too far. A personal conversation with kia was negative and was nothing short of talking in circles. I understand the issue of trying to traced random problems, but not the failure to start an investigation into, for instance, possible computer shielding issues making outside interference a possibility. It remains to be seen if the computer update works, but it is a issue when a transmission shuts totally or partly down. The dealer has never been able to verify my complaints.

26 Cruise Control problem of the 2011 Kia Motor Sorento

Failure Date: 03/26/2011

Cruise control broken for 3rd time. Cruise control does not work, has already had cruise control switch replaced once. Taking into dealer for third time and ironically, the day we picked 2011 kia Sorento up to have the cruise control fixed for the second time, it did not work with dealer stating "could not duplicate customer's concern. " what if we all did our job that way? is this site, paid for by us citizens, just for blogging or does the national highway traffic and safety administration have any teeth? its about time for a recall on the 2011 kia Sorento for transmission, sudden acceleration, cruise control, steering - pulling to the right, and other problems the 2011 kia Sorento has that are dangers to the public at large.

27 Cruise Control problem of the 2011 Kia Motor Sorento

Failure Date: 02/22/2010

Vehicle pulls to the right and has since day one. Dealer states "we cant duplicate your concern", yet when we picked up the vehicle (from the cruise control breaking, the vehicle again pulled to the right. We did not say much after until reading about dozens of other vehicle owner whom experience the same problem. When will the national highway transportation and safety administration do something about it?.

28 Cruise Control problem of the 2005 Kia Motor Sorento

Failure Date: 04/18/2009

Twice after driving our 2005 kia sorrento at highway speeds of approx 75 mph, then slowing down and then heading uphill car would not shift into the appropriate gear and could only go about 45 mph. Luckily, the first time we were able to get car to side of road - we let it rest a while and then it was ok. The second time we again had the gas pedal all the way to the floor going uphill but it only did about 35- 45. When we reached the top of the hill the car picked up speed and ran normally for the rest of the trip as if nothing happened. Both times cruise control was on - but not in active use and the ac was on. Both times we immediately turned ac off but it made no difference. We asked local kia dealer to check on it they adjusted the throttle control sensor. The check engine light did not come on, so there was no incident code. They said they couldn't be sure what caused it. We asked if it would ever happen again and they could not guarantee it would not.
