While driving, 4 wheel drive will kick in intermittently on its own. Vehicle has been taken to dealer numerous times, cannot find cause. Consumer adds the catalyst had to be replaced. There is an oil leak and front end was serviced 3 times.

Oxygen sensor has been replaced three times after routine service was performed. Consumer also stated the wipers were not clearing windshield, windows go up slowly, 4-wheel drive was inoperative,vehicle was loosing power steering, dealer replaced the fan belt,air condition was inoperative,wheel bearing were loose,weatherstrip was replaced,the engine boggs down while driving, front brakes were noisy.
While putting vehicle into four wheel drive it would not lock into place, and vehicle would not be on four wheel drive even though light inside turned on, showing four wheel drive on. Contacted dealer and the dealer is not willing to do anything.
Had to have rotors and pads replaced for 2nd time in 23000 miles. While brake job was being performed they found out that both bearing seals were completlely gone. Removed tires and hubs to find hubs completely contaminated with corrosion. Right front wheel was about to fall off. 4-wheel drive was also inoperative. Replaced both hus to include both rubber vacuum lines, four wheel solenoid and vacuum canister because of contamination. Car drove fine for 3 days , now it has a loud squeel and front end vibration when applying brakes at a normal breaking speed of around 45 mph. Service dept. Could not duplicate problem. . . . I will be returning vehicle back for further service immediately. There is now a groove in left front rotor after only about 400 miles of wear.
All four windows get stuck, doors lock and unlock by themselves, vehicle is trying to shift into 4x4 while vehicle is in motion, air conditioner works 1 out of 4 times, latch opens on back of vehicle while in motion. Black tarry dust on front tires.
Vehicle would hesitate with a "clunking" noise during normal operation of vehicle while traveling at any speed. Dealership stated that transfer case broke and had to be replaced. Please provide any additional information / documentation.

While driving heard a noise, then steering was very hard to turn, and brakes went to the floor. Consumer had to use transmission to slow vehicledown. 4 wheel drive failed. Wife of this vehicle's owner also has exact same vehicle, VIN [xxx] with 4 wheel drive failure, also consumer experienced power window failure and has experienced electrical problems ever since. Over all 4 wheel drive dosen't seem to work when indicator light shows that it is on.

4-wheel drive failed twice within a 1 year time span during snowstorms! it was "repaired"the first time but failed again less than 1 year later. Both failures occurred during deep snow conditions,thusly making driving impossible and creating a potential for hazardous and possible fatal conditions. I am bringing the vehicle in today(01/15/2002) to kia of westchester to be diagnosed and repairs. Please,contact said dealership to insure that the vehicle gets repaired properly and in a expeditious manner. Also,I lost 2 days of salary because I was unable to make it home(I was in PA visiting my ill father) because of 1-foot of snow and unable to engage 4-wheel drive!.
At 20-25 mph in snow consumer had vehicle in 4-wheel drive, light indicated that it was. Consumer hit guardrail, only 2-wheels were turning, 4 wheel drive not working.
4 wheel drive went out. Vehicle has been at dealer since then. According to dealer,part is on backorder, not known when will be available. The dealer denied the vehcile was on recall but fixed the problem after long delay.
Ever since first day of ownership when going from 2 wheel drive to 4 wheel drive there is a grinding noise coming from front end, and will continue during normal operation. When consumer applies brakes, noise will randomly disappear. Dealership cannot determine what causes defect.
Front hub will not lock up, causing four wheel drive to become inoperable. Dealer can not correct the problem.
4-wd not working, hubs not locking. Engine is straining as if in 4wd, indicator light is lit, leading you to believe you are safely in 4wd, but the back tires are spinning and the front tires are not turning. The dealer has checked the truck and ordered parts. . . That was 2 weeks ago, and dealer has no idea when the parts will be in. Kia has not responded to the dealer's inquiry. The wire harness that was replaced took a week because kia sent a faulty harness as a replacement and the part had to be reordered.
4-wheel drive gets stuck which causes consumer to pull over and turn off vehicle. There is a recall for this problem. Please provide further information.
Was driving in snow when 4wd light came to indicate it was engaged, but 4wd was not working. Took to dealership twice, and had it repaired. Mechanic is refusing to repair it for a third time. Consumer states vehicle was all over the road due to 4wd not working.
While driving twice in light snow 4-wheel drive unit kick out of gear spontaenously. The 4 wheel drive kick out forced the vehicle to spin 180 degrees. After the third failure, the consumer rented a vehicle, but had a serious accident in which the rental vehicle was totaled.
No lights on dashboard came on . This is one time engine check light did not come on. Oil all over motor. Around area of dip stick. Pressure from motor blew out dip stick has anyone else had to replace motor on these cars? also have had brakes replaced 5 times. Wiper assembly replaced. Fourwheel drive hose replaced. Windsheild replaced. Emissons replaced. Rotors 5 times. Seats front and back 1 time each. Soft top replaced 3 times need replaced again. Smells like sulfur all the time. Will never buy one again . First I have to pay 3000. 00 for a new motor and pay this one off. Asked for help from kia they said no. They will not replace motor. I bought extended warrenty . Don't buy it doesn't cover brakes or rotors or hubs. Had headlight switch by motor replaced no headlights they would go off when I put them from high beam to low beam or low to high. Then they stopped working alltogether had to hold switch to see to get home.
4-wheel drive does not always engage, both front hubs were replaced and pass operation cable adjusted, dealer claims the problems is fixed, however consumer states there is no difference once vehicle is repaired. Check engine light illuminated. Power window inoperable, dealer replaced window motor.

Four wheel drive failed, while waiting for replacement parts vehicle experienced violent vibration and breakage of the axle while driving 60-65 mph.
Main concern is 4 wheel drive, could cause an accident if indicator lamp is on and 4 wheel drive is not engaging. Causing a false sense of security on hazardous roadways, causing loss of vehicle control.
4-wheel drive not engaging. Dealer has made three attempts to repair. Recalled September 1999. Replaced vaccum seal December 27, 2000 still not working.

After being stuck in a snow storm consumer discovered that vehicle did not have 4-wheel drive, eventhough the system was engaged in 4-wheel drive. The dealer/manufacturer are aware of the problem. The problem has not been corrected.
The 4- wheel drive fails to work properly. Vehicle also makes hideous noises & the steering wheel shakes very badly. Took the vehicle back to the dealer numerous times to solve the problem. Noises and vibrations are getting worse.
Eventhough the 4- wheel drive light indicates that the system is engaged, it is not engaging in 4-wheel drive. The cold weather causes the seals in the vacumm to shrink. The manufacture/dealer acknowledge that this is a prolbem.
