Transmission "slams" when shifting from 2nd to 3rd after it has a chance to warm up. This occurs from either a stand-still or when it has been rolling and shifts to a higher gear. I have taken it to the dealership and they are not aware of any other issues of this type, but I had another kia in the past and the same thing occurred. The dealer is currently looking into what may be causing this issue and are trying to determine if I need a new transmission or not.

The last time he had it to dealer the light went off for about 3 weeks, and yesterday the light was back on. First got car seemed to drive good, but in the winter the 4-wheel drive didn't work. Kia fixed it, and this happened again, kia fixed it again. This seemed to happen when in high speeds and then slowing, the wheels would shake. At the first attempt to fix it, kia dealer said they changed the kit that puts it into 4-wheel drive. On the second attempt to fix it, they didn't know what they did, but it had to do with 4-wheel drive. At third attempt kia said the hoses were clogged. Took hoses off and cleaned them and put them back on. Also, said there was a new kit into the cars, but he did not put it into consumer's car. He assured consumer that the car would be fine. About three months later the 4-wheel drive and transmission iwere not working right. The last time this happened the front wheeles locked up and slid.

Transmission light appeared on the dashboard, also engine check light.
While driving my Sportage, I accidentally hit the gear control on the floor. To my surprise, it moved forward from the drive position to the neutral position. I found an isolated street and tested it again and it happened again. The gear handle does not properly lock into each position as it should. The safety button on the gear lever does not provide any sort of protection. I did not want to damage my car by testing to see if I could shift from drive into reverse using this newly-found problem. I'll leave that one to the automotive professionals. Please investigate this problem and determine if this is an isolated case or a vehicle design flaw. Thanks for your help!.
No summary listed for above vehicle.

When starting vehicle, it runs rough and almost stalls. When driving vehicle, it hesitates and bucks, has total loss of power in 1st and 2nd gear. This problem does not happen all the time, but does happen frequently. Has been to the dealership and they cannot locate problem. Car has lost power several times while entering traffic causing a potential accident.
Car has lost power in 1st and 2nd gears, engine light comes on, car smokes, replaced two 02 sensors, tapping noise under hood when start engine, car would not start, once started had gas smell, and blew smoke out exhaust.
The heat shield on my catalytic converter rusted off,the manifold cracked, the muffler rusted through within a year, the widshield wiper transmission broke and was replaced, while the kia Sportage is engaged in 4wd it pops out into two wheel drive and causes the driver to lose control of the vehicle. This has happened to me numerous times this winter and the recalled parts have now failed again causing kia to put in manual hubs from 1997 into my 1999 SUV. I feel this is a danger to all who own a kia Sportage and I have contacted a lawyer to look into possible litigation against kia. I have found a recall on a previouse modle from 1998 but the components seals are failing in the replacment parts hubs . Thank in advance for your time and letting me inform you of this dangerouse situation. . . Ed geisler.
Connector corrosion caused vehicle not to start. Also, there was a camshaft oil leak. While driving vehicle at 65mph, engine started to race. Was as if someone put vehicle in neutral and stepped on gas.

The trnamission fail twice once after the car was checked before we left on vacation, the deeler will not help my and we have ended up having a restraining order draw up because of the threats from his staff. Kia it's self has been notified and hav offered a rediculus traid in of $7000. The car was over $18000. The hubs have nearly cost me my life I went off the interstate hitting ice I was not in 4 wheel drive at the time but I went in to a ditch, when I tried to put it in to 4 wheel I would not go I had to travel in a ditch on a busy interstate for 5 mile till I could reach the exit. The washer motor failed on the interstate in smowing conditions, I had to empty water on the window as I was driving to see. This the worst car ever and the dealer and kia will not help with any of these matters. The dates of these incidents might not be the correct date my attorney has all the paper work from the dealer.
Transmission could switch to reverse by itself on low temperture or cold weather and the tires move side by side.
Was told able to shift into 4-d up to speeds of 50mph. Have not been able to do so/ indicator light stays on long after shifted out of 4-wd.
There are many of problems with this vehicle as of today ther are only 1700 mile on the vehicleas where mor than 1/2 those miles are from going back and forth to the service dept as it is an 80 mile trip to the service dept. As for kia they are totally ignorant as they do not ever return any of my phone calls. This suvis a lemon if I ever saw one . You would thin. No safet defect (s) listed in the summary.
