The Sportage was garaged during a winter vacation. Upon return we found the brakes seized up. After getting them released, we took it to the dealer for service. There was corrosion so the rear brake rotors and pads were replaced on June 11, 2010. The same failure happened again in 2011, 2012 and in 2013 the seizure and corrosion are severe. This will lead to premature brake failure.

I purchased my kia used, from a dealer, less than a year ago, and it passed the electronic systems check for vehicle inspection. I immediately had to have dealer replace the gasoline tank after smelling gasoline. This car is used solely for light usage to transport myself and my children to and from dr's and grocery stores. After owning the car for less than two months, check engine light came on, reporting issue with catalyst. Found a recall on this issue and am trying to get original dealer to fix. Now experiencing loss of power to engage inclines or hills, causing a hazard to other drivers. Also back brakes simply "blew"! without any forewarning, with my children in the car, I lost all braking abilities. Thank goodness I was not going fast and have a standard to quickly downshift. My mother was killed due to loss of brakes, and it was an absolute panicking situation for me emotionally. Being a single mother I rely on mechanics to do all my work, and I had just had all my fuel levels topped off and my pads checked, without any issue found. I have also had an intermittent issue with the front seat belts remaining engaged. The dealer warranty expired and I am stuck with recalls nobody seems to want to fix!.

The contact owns a 2001 kia Sportage. On November 21, 2006, while driving 55 mph, the vehicle began to smoke. The contact noticed the smoke entering through the air vents on the passenger side of the vehicle. She pulled to the side of the road and called her local kia dealer to inquire if she could bring her vehicle in for service. The dealer advised her to bring it in the following day. The dealer replaced the blower motor, but the failure continued for the next three years. The contact also had the brake pads replaced, but the dealer has been unable to remedy the failure. The failure mileage was unknown. Updated 05/13/08 the check engine light illuminated. Updated.

Car purchased new, Nov 2000. Now has 29k miles. Has had brakes, pads & rotors replaced twice because of excessive wear and pulsating when stopping. Done by dealer, who said common problem with the brakes on "these small cars". Now needs replaced again; doing same thing as before. Also loses brake fluid, 1/2 pint every few weeks. Now just had left front bearing siezed up; pulled car to left into oncoming lane of traffic (no impact with other vehicles). Dealer replaced both front axles, spindles, bearings, etc. , but denies this is common problem. However, checking other complaints on record, find both brakes and the bearings problem are evidently very common.
Replaced 4 wheel drive with update and replaced front brake pads.
The contact owns a 2000 kia Sportage. The contact states that she has had to replace the rotors, pads, and bearings twice on the vehicle. She did regular maintenance on her vehicle. She has had to replace them again on may 16, 2005.
While driving, the driveshaft made a loud noise and broke. When this occurred, the consumer pulled over and called a towing company. The dealership replaced the driveshaft, but it failed again. The drive shaft was replaced three times within three years. The vehicle would make rattling sounds that would get louder and the vehicle became too loud to drive. The service dealer found the center bolt stripped, the sop propeller was replaced for noise, the brake light was on due to 25% left on the pads and the transmission seal was replaced due to leaking.
Anti-lock brake system rotors and pads have been replaced three times since date of purchase. Rotors and pads last from ten to twelve thousand miles. Please provide further details.

We have replaced the brake pads several times since owning this vehicle for the last almost two years, approximately 6 times to replace with the most recent time being only 5000 miles ago, the dealer now wants us to pay for the replacement and the warranty is still in existance with the vehicle (almost 30,000 miles). I want to know if any - what is being done about this problem there is also excessive brake pad wear dust on the outside of the front hub caps. Please contact me - as this is getting quite expensive to replace every 5,000 miles.
Brakes warped since consumer owned vehicle. After repair the brakes would warp again. This pattern continued until the dealership decided to keep the truck for further repairs.
