The vehicle has had a history of problems all described by the 2013 recall. The brake light is intermittent. I have had the cruise fail to turn off, the esc off light illuminates, the car can be shifted into gear without pressing the break with the ignition off. The vehicle will occasionally have automatic transmission issues with the break transmission interlock system which is causing the intermittent esc off light warning to randomly illuminate. It will go quite a time without it on then randomly turn on and off and then stay and then repeat the same type pattern associated with the reports of the initial recall. I have reported these issues to kia in which I called the kia us corporate line about a year and a half ago. It still continues despite regular service and proper vehicle care. The vehicle can be stationary or in movement. In many cases the esc off light illuminates when starting from a stopped position, or right after accelerating or beginning to accelerate. The only way to reset it is to turn the car off and then back on. Sometimes that works sometimes it doesn't. If it works at times, as soon as I move the shifter away from park it illuminates the esc off light. It is intermittent though and can be hard to catch. When it happens though it does so on and off randomly. This has occurred repeatedly since purchasing the car. Mechanics cannot figure it out except expressing it is exactly the description of the recall. I was unaware of the recall as my VIN didn't shot up. However the kia office told me the cars VIN was registered as Sportage without ac even thought it has ac and has since manufacture. The issues need attention. I was informed by another driver that the tail lights were out multiple times but I could never reproduce it. I've only caught it once at night as I can see the reflections of the brake lights behind me. Various speeds.

The contact owns a 2008 kia Sportage. While driving at various speeds, the brake warning light illuminated intermittently. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the brakes needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact was unaware if the vehicle was serviced according to NHTSA campaign number: 13v114000 (exterior lighting, service brakes, hydraulic). The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 53,000.

Right after christmas and before new year's eve I received a phone call from a lady stating she was a kia representative. My vehicle was part of the recall for the brake switch. About ten days after the call my brake lights would no longer go out even when the vehicle had been sitting still overnight. Than about 3-5 days later my esc off light came on and now always stay on when the car is being driven. This past weekend I sent a service request online for the brake switch issue to be fixed. I did bunch of research and found out that the brake switch was the one causing the other issues and still can cause more. On 2/1/16 a kia service employee called and left a message stating that the recall didn't apply to may car. Later on that same day my cruise control stopped working. From all the research I did the brake switch is the cause for all three problems I'm having now. What I don't understand is how can other 2006 kia Sportages who have had the same issue like me is covered but my car is not.
Brake lights are not operating and the electronic stability control system malfunction light stays on. Kia has a recall sc098 (nthsa number 13v114000) for this exact problem, when I took the car to the dealer they informed me my VIN does not fall in that recall, I spoke to kia and they informed me the same, yet my car has the identical problems described in the recall notice they have also informed me the hydraulic electronic control unit and the recall has verbiage of hydraulics. My concern is kia states I am outside the recall window with the identical issue as stated on the recall from 2013 and expanded at least once.
Tl-the contact owns a 2007 kia Sportage. The contact stated that when the brake pedal was depressed, the rear brake light failed to illuminate without warning. The contact mentioned that failure occurred after the vehicle was previously serviced under NHTSA campaign number: 13v114000 (exterior lighting , service brakes, hydraulic). The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the bulbs needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired twice, however, the failure recurred. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 60,000. Ss.
I purchased my 2008 kia Sportage brand new, I take very good care of it. Currently I have 55,000 miles on it, last week the abs, parking brake and esc lights came on. I immediately took it to the dealer they ran a diagnostic test $90. 00. I was told the hydraulic assembly needs to be replaced, est cost of $2,311. 25 and that my car is now unsafe to drive. Was told that it was not covered under warranty and informed me that this was unusual. Therefore my concern is should this be a recall item?.
Hydraulic module assembly needed replaced-abs,esc,brake lights all came on. Took to dealer who stated "brains" of the abs system needed replaced. Vehicle only has 32,200 miles.
I was getting my oil changed at valvoline oil change in liverpool, NY. During the routine light check, the tech said that my brake lights weren't coming on when I braked, only the top brake light strip in rear middle. I had seen the "esc off" light come on without any reason in the last few weeks. I also noticed that when getting on an interstate highway, my cruise control would turn on, but not set/engage. I researched online for these symptoms, and found there was a recall of kia Sportages both in 2009 and in 2013 for a stop lamp switch causing the exact same symptoms. The NHTSA campaign was #13v114000. In calling the burdick kia to get this replaced because of the recall, the service manager told me that the switch was replaced on August 2013, in compliance with the recall. Because of this, I can't get the switch replaced for free. I am just letting you know that there is still an issue with this condition, even with the 2013 recall and replacement.

As of Saturday my brake lights would not shut off, then I noticed while driving the electronic stability control light kept flashing on and off by itself. And the cruise control was not working properly as well. So I got online to investigate this and found there was a recall for this exact problem with my year and model car. But when I called kia they stated that my car was not part of the recall and that I would have to pay out of pocket for the repairs, even though my make model was recalled and my car was doing the same thing that was recalled.
The contact owns a 2008 kia Sportage. The contact stated that the brake lights illuminated when the brake pedal was not being pressed. The contact also mentioned that the electronic stability control light illuminated. The dealer advised that NHTSA campaign number 13v114000 (exterior lighting, service brakes, hydraulic) was performed but the failure was not corrected. The failure mileage was 48,000 and current mileage was 51,000.
The stop lamp switch in this vehicle intermittently malfunctions. The malfunctioning stop lamp switch has caused the brake lights to not illuminate when the brake pedal is depressed. Additionally, the malfunctioning stop lamp switch has resulted in intermittent operation of the push-button start feature. Failure to illuminate the stop lamps during braking or inability to disengage the cruise control could increase the risk of a crash.

Push button start would not work due to faulty brake light switch. This model year is not on the recall list as most other year models for this problem but should be. Problem clearly extends past 2010 year models.
Tl - the contact owns a 2009 kia Sportage. The contact stated that the esc off switch illuminated as the brake lights failed. The vehicle was taken to a private mechanic where it was diagnosed that the stop lamp switch needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that the vehicle was not included in NHTSA campaign number : 13v114000 (exterior lighting , service brakes, hydraulic). The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure and current mileage was 25,848. Kmj.
Approximately, two weeks after purchase in 01/2013, "esc off," light came on multiple times at various speeds including vehicle start up. I made several calls to place of purchase regarding intermittent, "esc off," light. Pressing " esc off," dash button has no effect and the light stays illuminated. Dealer of purchase took vehicle to kia service and the diagnostic was tpms light is on, advise. At no time did the tpms light ever come on, nor was it reported as such. Vehicle was returned with no work done, and place of purchase was informed that tire(s) were low. Currently, the "esc off," light is still illuminating and brake lights have failed. Tire pressure check by recent service (oil change) was reported as normal. According to kia customer support and the kia dealership of service, this vehicle is not included in the recall issued 01 April, 2013. Purchase mileage 27,476, mileage at kia service 30,328 on 21 Feb, 2013. Several online forums including kia-forums. Com report this problem as far back as 2007 models.
Hi! I just took my 2007 kia Sportage in for an oil change today, July 14, 2012 and initially thought that my tail lights were burnt out. The mechanic stated that my vehicle's brake lights were not working at all. After researching the internet, I found out that kia recalled 2007 Sportage in 2009 because of external break lighting issues. I was not notified of this recall by the kia dealer whatsoever and have driven this car for three years. I am completely beside myself that I drove a car for three years with a major safety recall. At this point, I cannot afford a new car so I do not know what to do. I guess I should consider myself lucky to be alive. I have to submit this complaint because it is not right to keep this information from consumers. It is negligent and irresponsible to sell a car to someone if it has a safety recall and not to notify or warn them about it.
As of yet there has been no incident other than being notified that there is a safety recall on my vehicle and for over two months now the dealer and the manufacturer who I have also contacted claim that they can not get the necessary parts to replace the defective one. This safety recall is for a defective brake switch which can cause failure of the brakes lights, the car not to move out of park and the cruise control to not shut off when the brakes are applied.
Tires became bald three months after I bought the car, brake pads and rotor needed replacing. The gas lever has been and is broke again. Hubs were replaced the first time, seals were replaced second time. The heat shield needs to be replaced right now. Passenger side window moves very slow. Timing belt replaced early. Brake light comes on whenever I applied the brakes. I went to an auto dealer and had them check out the brakes. They told me that the master brake cylinder was leaking badly.

This is the third time I have had brake problems and the vehicle has only 8300 miles on it. The first time the brake light was on and they change the eng brake solenoid. The seconed time the master cylinder failed and all four brakes parcially locked up. This time I was donig 68 on the highway and the right front brake locked up. I missed hitting another car by less than an inch when it made my vehicle swerve instantly. I am getting scared to drive it at all!! whats going to happen next? "I don't want to die or kill my family or someone else's!!!!".

When driving at any speed and applying the brakes vehicle shakes. Also, air bag light and abs brake light stay on, and driver's side shoulder belt doesn't work.
