The car is currently in the shop at jim shorkey gainesville kia and is available for inspection. They have contacted me to tell me the transmission/engine failed. I was driving on interstate when I suddenly lost the ability to accelerate and was forced to get off of the highway. After coming to a complete stop I pressed on the gas pedal but the car would still not accelerate. I tried putting into park and back into drive and that did not work. I tried putting it into manual mode and it did go forward but every gear change was loud, jerky, and rough. I was able to make to my next complete stop in a left turning lane to cross a two lane busy highway that is coming downhill towards me at an intersection that does not have a traffic signal. However the car was stuck in gear 5. I was the first car in line. At this point I put other cars in danger as they swerved back into the high way to get around me into the intersection to make that left turn across busy highway. I turned the car completely off and after a minute turned it back on. I put in drive, waited until I couldn't see any cars coming down the hill and I pressed the gas pedal to test. It jerked forward and I managed to get across the highway as it shifted into the second gear it jerked violently and made a loud popping noise and there after every single gear change was loud and jerky. Thank god I did not lose the ability to accelerate in that left turn because those cars are coming at 70+ miles per hour down that hill or my family would have been t-boned on their passenger side. I am also lucky that I was able to get off the nearest exit when they problem originally happened as I was going downhill on the interstate and the next exit was very close so my momentum got me there. I lost the ability to control the vehicle as I ordinarily would putting myself, my family, and other motorists in danger had we not been able to get off on the exit or make it through that left turn.

While driving in highway we noticed a fuel smell. After a little came from front area (hood area) and heard a blast underneath. At the same time the car abruptly stopped in the highway (hov lane). We also noticed fireballs shooting downward from underneath the car. We had no options but to call fire brigade to stop the fire. Later we had to tow the car to home. I called a mechanic to evaluate the situation and he informed us the engine of the vehicle has been ceased as a result. We have to bear a significant cost for the repairs. We are still suffering emotional stress as a result of this unexpected incident.

While driving on the highway there was a 'pop' sound and then the smell of smoke. After pulling over to the side of the highway, roughly 20 seconds later, smoke was pouring out of the front of the vehicle and within a minute it was engulfed in flames.

I have and had many problems including: steering components that break suddenly, causing partial or complete loss of vehicle control, problems with fuel system components, particularly in their susceptibility to crash damage, which result in leakage of fuel and may cause vehicle fires or gets a strong fire smell at the moment, the accelerator controls that break or stick and has been acknowledged a kia dealership repair man. Most recently, wheels that make loud cracking sound, which may result in loss of vehicle control, had a poor windshield wiper assemblies that fail to operate properly causing bad vision for driving, critical care components that are constantly and simantously needing repair. Beyond belief. Also, wiring system problems that result in a strong fire smell, or loss of lighting, wiring system problems that result in a strong fire smell or loss of lighting, or loss of power. Many times, I have been left stranded after having 20 seconds of power flickering and then the car abruptly shuts off. This is very hazardous. I fear for my 5 year old child when this happens. I also have proof of emergency road side assistance for loss of power. Furthermore, I have proof and evidence via road side assistance, many invoices to different dealerships all keeping my car for several hours for diagnostic testing. Then after paying for the services, my car will have another episode of leaving me stranded in bad situations. , I have pictures and videos of all these malfunctions occurring and its only a part of what I have been able to catch on video and camera because it happens so fast. I had all of the lights light up on ths dash almost looks like christmas lights. On and off I have pictures.

Purchased the car 4 months ago & was given the car with a bad gas pressure relay . So the gas & oil was spilling on top of my motor cause inhalation gas fumes & car smoking . The car could have caught on fire at any given moment . The engine or motor was not checked properly before the car was ok’d for me to drive to & from work everyday . The entire motor was covered in gasoline .

It died when we turned it on but we didn’t think it started so we started it again and it was fine. Then 1 hour later we were driving and check engine light came on and it turned off then the car was dying. When I pulled over to let it cool down the car wouldn’t turn back on and when I checked under the hood there was oil all over the engine and the cap was there, it was smoking.

This car was electronically going crazy tenants calling police cause alarm wouldn't stop going off smelled gasoline but no leaks o roll the windows down engine ram n lights get dim no check light ever came on car shutting off child locked in car behind this then it goes up in smoke while driving on the freeway what the hell should I say more we could have list our lives in that car I have 2 kids 1 and 2. Constantly have to fill the engine with oil about once or twice a month .

Engine will not start consistently. Will take two to four attempts to start, and engine will sputter when it finally does catch and start. Electrical equipment not affected (battery inspected twice). The car will also randomly jerk and/or speed up when driving.

There are moments when I am driving that the vehicle will suddenly decelerate for no reason. At that point, I have to pull over, turn the vehicle off and then back on for it to move. This is frightening at the least as it happens with no warning and sometimes I'm on the freeway. I have had a couple of mechanics look at it and they can't figure out why it does this. I've asked kia twice and they don't give a response. I'm afraid that it will happen one day when I'm not in a position to pull over without getting hit.

Oxt 2021 check engine light illuminated on my 2020 kia Sportage. Code p242200 was pulled. Service technician replaced the canister close valve due to sticking open. Nov 2, 2021 the check engine illuminated again during a trip out of state. During the trip the engine light would go from illuminated to off a number of times. The car was returned to the dealer on November 16, 2021 the service technician retrieved code 2422 and contacted kia tech line. It was decided to drop the fuel tank and inspect the evap canister. Spiders (yellow sac spiders) were found on the canister and webbing and spiders found in lines. Since this was an “environmental” condition and not mechanical defect this service was not covered under warranty or by a tech service bulletin. At issue is that this problem (spiders being drawn to the evap canister and fuel lines) has previously been identified by the automotive industry circa 2004 to present. This is clearly a safety defect that could cause fuel tanks or lines to rupture and environmental issues the affected parts were meant to help prevent. I purchased this vehicle from a private seller in August 2021 and attempted to obtain records of the vehicle kia America case id #14353653 which kia America has yet to provide me any information. I had a full diagnostic done by a certified mechanic at borst automotive in the state of arizona on 09/18/21 where several concerns were reported to me that kia failed to report. There is a new and concerning grinding with the engine on my 2006 kia Sportage lx that sounds like it might be an exhaust leak. I hear loud grinding sounds now when turning on the car that immediately sound when it is fired up, and when accelerating is the worst, but the sound starts loud and is immediate when I turn on the vehicle and fire up the engine. Two days ago on 10-01-21 which was the last night I drove it as it feels unsafe to drive now, I did not get far before the front driver's tire closest to the engine completely blew out/ and exploded coming off of it's wheel and cap hinting at a potential engine problem or recalled defect. I had to immediately pull over and call aaa to come put the spare donut on my car to get it back home to park. The engine appears to have something wrong with the exhaust system and it sounds bad. I reported this today to kia America case id #14407655. I always make it a point to to check fluids and something is not right here. The car is overheated but radiator is fine and coolant, and all other engine fluids are full but could be an engine issue that is dangerous. This engine sounds like it will burst at any minute its grinding and stalling so bad. Made an appointment with royal kia in my hometown tucson, az for October 12, 2021 to have the fuel tank straps replaced as apparently they are faulty and this was the soonest this dealership could perform this. I know the 2010-2021 Sportage models were recalled under safety recall 20v-750 but since this recall is somewhat new and yet to discover other kia Sportage’s that might also be affected.

Addendum to complaint on Kia Motors,kia America, citrus kia , their sell of first a brand new 2015 kia soul,now recalled 5 yrs later after we begged for help. We are 2 disabled person s who were duped by kia and citrus, traded in going into further debt after getting no where with NHTSA, kia etc. Kia motors traded and financed a brand new 2018 kia Sportage only to have dangerous problems with it. Kia knowingly sold us 2 dangerous vehicle s, we had the knock sensor installed per the "upgrade", farce, should be recall. The car stalled in traffic and another dealership put in a wiring harness extension. We only have 13,000 miles on this car because we do not feel safe. The dealership did an oil change last year and day before yesterday. I received a text that our fuel needed additive. It is in " fair condition", recommend with every oil change. Not true, never recommended before and 13,000 miles. It should not need additive anywhere. See attached screenshot. I fully believe they are covering up even more as it relates to the problem ie settlement? seriously. Our car is worth nothing. We were driving steady at about 45 mph and the rpm gauge rubbed at random just once every time. It has happened more than once we don't change your speed or anything it just rubs up to about 5000 rpm and go back to normal and does it sporadically.

My 2013 kia Sportage caught fire while on the interstate the gas pedal didnt work I pulled over and the car was smoking because it was on fire.

As I was driving the engine bogged down and when not accelerate so when I pushed down hard on the gas it finally kicked in super hard causing me to crash into a pole.

On March 12 2021 I was on I-4 east toward daytona beach about 70 miles per hour and all of the sudden the engine stahl. I was able to move to the shoulder of the road. The tow truck driver jumped the battery 3 times and the engine didn't start,took it to the dealer kept the car overnight did all necessary checks everything looks fine no problem with the battery or any other thing. . The next day the car start as normal, they did a test drive and everything was ok as if nothing had happened. I went and took the car home and as of this moment it seems to be ok. My big concern now is what if it happens again while driving in the highway. It can cause an accident risking mine and my family lives. Is there anything I can do???.

Around thanksgiving I noticed a knocking/ rattling/ clanking sound under my hood in the engine area, which occasionally increased/decreased when the rpms moved. Due to covid and not traveling I didnt drive it for a few days. I went to the store on 11/30 and the sound was louder and more startling. I had my husband check it when he got home. We noticed recalls on the vehicle but my VIN never registered. Because my vehicle is used to transport children, my husband asked me to make an appointment with the dealership ASAP to have it looked at. I made the appointment for 12/1. While on the highway to get to my appointment the sound progressively got worse - then all lights went on in the dash and the gas stopped working. It was like my vehicle was in neutral when I pressed the gas. It would not start again and the steering wheel was locked. I waited over an hour for a tow truck; on the shoulder of a busy highway, during rush hour. It was dropped at the dealer and we are currently waiting on a report as to whats wrong. We believe it falls in line with the current recalls.

On November 12 I purchased the kia Sportage ex 2012 and it was transferred on November 16 from pittsburgh to the dhillon auto center workshop located at penndel pennsylvania being attended by the mechanic (the vehicle was stationary) who after performing the usual technical inspections found that the engine did not work properly and after a short period of ignition, it smoked intensely and went out almost immediately; insisting a couple of times more and continued checking other components of the ignition system after which he did not insist more and reaching the conclusion that the engine was internally damaged. Before which I felt frustrated and confused and without knowing who to turn to. Until doing the proper historical monitoring of this vehicle I find out that this car has a pending recall to be solved by kia. Therefore I come to you to know how to proceed and make the due claim for this pending recall.

Engine light came on smell of gas when you lift hood.

Tl-the contact owns a 2018 kia Sportage. The contact stated that while approaching a school zone entering the school lot going about 5 mph as the contact turned into the lot without warning, odor appeared from underneath the hood. The contact got out grabbed his child out the car open the hood and flames shoot out. The fire department was contacted. A police report was made. No injuries sustained. The fire department extinguished the flames. The police towed the vehicle to a lot where state frame came out to the location and deemed the vehicle a totaled losss. No dealer was contacted. The manufacturer was not amade aware of the failure. The contact mentioned NHTSA campaign number: 18v907000 (fuel system, gasoline, engine) as a possible solution to the failure however the VIN was not included in the recall. The failure mileage was approximately 60,000. Ck.

This happened twice in 10 days. Once while driving and once in parking mode with vehicle on - suddenly the vehicle loses power, cannot accelerate, power steering is lost, and 3 panel lights turn on simultaneously: battery, oil, check engine. Both times by turning off and restarting engine I have been able to continue driving, power is restored and panel lights turn off. Have taken both times to kia service southside/jacksonville FL and they have not been able to identify the cause, therefore unable to fix a potentially very dangerous and life-threatening situation if this continues to happen, especially while driving. Extremely concerned!.

In August of last year I bought a 2019 kia Sportage ex from smithtown kia in NY. On July 12, 2020 I was driving with my daughter when the car just stopped without any warning. It was a very scary experience as cars were all around me. Luckily, I was on a side street and not on a main road or highway! when I preceded to start the car up again there was a terrible odor that smelled like gas and a burning smell. At that point, I called my husband who got a tow truck for us. The next day, the service department told me the code to inform them what was wrong with the vehicle disappeared. However, the car was working and ready for me to pick up! I informed them that I did not feel safe driving the vehicle without it being fixed nor was my daughter willing to go back in the car. I was told they would drive the car around to assure me there was nothing wrong with the car. Again, they offered for me to pick the car up or drop it off!.

The problem started a couple of months after purchasing my car, everytime we would go get a oil change the service facility would tell us that our oil was low and we didnt see how when we would ha e it changed regularly so we was loosing oil and didnt know where back it was leaking on the ground and it wasnt visible when you would look under the hood she we took it to kia and they stated that they didnt see anything wrong, if the problem continue to bring it back and they would do a diagnostic on the vehicle to get to the problem so I called kia corporate office they told be that they would write out a incident report and take it to kia I informed them that I did that and corporate basically said to follow the shop recommendations cause my vehicle didnt have a active recall on it so I reached out to NHTSA to report the issues I have had and to also let someone else no I have had issues the vehicle was having and not even a month later the car started jurking and brought it back to kia and then then again said that it wasnt nothing they can do it wasnt a recall on the vehicle so last week I was driving the vehicle on my way to work the car stalled and completely died in the middle of the highway stopping traffic I had help safely get it to the side of the road and it wouldn't crank so I had to have it towed home then called kia and spoke to a service and and they stated there there was a bulletin out for my vehicle, I was told it was the camshaft, timing and something to do with the oil canister, I dont see why the vehicle haven't been recalled if they know there are issues with them this is a 2016 vehicle it is fairly new and it has so may issues.

I was on the street driving pulling out in traffic. When I tried to give gas car made idle sound but did not move. I was in middle of street. Not first time happening. . Advised nally kia dealership. Did not help me.

This car is 12 years old and is unsafe to drive. That is what the mechanic just told me when I tried to get an alignment. The whole rear subframe is rusted out. Which is ridiculous for a 2008 vehicle. Car pulls drastically to the right also needs new ball jointsalso needs a new oxygen sensor.

Since I took delivery of the Sportage on 1/18/20, there has been a fuel leak. On three occasions, I asked kirby kia to check it and they said there was no problem. I notice that they did not include on their paperwork my requests to inspect this problem. The gas fumes are so strong that if I'm idling or stopped in traffic, I have to close all my windows and set air to recirculate. I am a senior and need someone to step in and help with this issue. The car has a rough idle. It will stall randomly, sometimes while in traffic. The computer has been replaced and numerous sensors have been checked. The problems occurred when we first bought the car used in December 2009. It was fixed but began happening again in the fall of 2018. The random stalling occurred again in late summer 2019 and has been a problem ever since.

The engine of the car just died on me when I was turning right at the intersection. Unknown cause why the engine just died on me. I tried starting it, and it would start and die again. If I start the car and step on the gas, the engine does not die but once I release from the gas, the engine dies and I smell a strong gas odor.

One night I was driving my car and my car all the sudden just quit going so I took it to the kia dealership and they told me when they put it on the computer that it needed a motor mind you this car only has 60,000 miles on it so I said okay they were going to replace the motor but then they said that I never did an oil change with them which was a lie but I didn't have my receipts so they wouldn't replace my motor plus there's two other recalls on this besides the motor the fuel line and the airbags.

My kia Sportage 2019 caught fire on the highway in new market MD at around 10:30 am 9/26/19. We had previously taken the car to the dealership where we purchased it back in 12/2019. It had only 3900+/- miles on it. The oil, filter, tire rotation and 27 point inspection was done on 9/19/19. As I was in the left lane of rte 70 wb I noticed blue smoke coming from the back of the car. I put on my flashers and signaled over to the right shoulder. I called my husband and was quite hysterical because now the front of the car was smoking a brownish-black. It quickly started coming in they the vents. I couldn't figure out what to do - may have been in some sort of shock. But I finally left the vehicle but was still too close. A passerby, jeremiah darling of NJ, assisted me to a safe place and I heard a pop then the flames started coming quickly.

Previously reported engine surges / erratic idle at 177800 miles, and throttle body cleaned at 177900 miles. At 178345 the idle air control valve was cleaned as a precaution, due to the previous symptoms. At 178377 while driving on the highway I found the throttle stuck in the full open position. After safely stopping the vehicle, I had to manually return the throttle to the normal position. Upon restarting the vehicle I began experiencing erratic idling 3000 to 4000 rpm. Once parked at 178382 the idle air control valve was rechecked, and engine idle rpm returned to normal. I checked the obdii and found no previous or pending codes. I will replace the idle air control valve.

I previously reported at 177,800 miles that I was experiencing engine surges. While driving if I depressed the clutch engine would rise to 2000 rpms. If I pulled the accelerator pedal up with tip of my foot, the engine rpms would return normal. At 177, 900 miles the throttle body assembly was cleaned, and I am no longer experiencing engine surges.
