Kia Motor Sportage owners have reported 5 problems related to rearview mirror (under the visibility category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Kia Motor Sportage based on all problems reported for the Sportage.
I had gotten my windshield replaced by safelite last year. On a cold day while driving to work, I went to adjust my rearview mirror and the rearview mirror came off from the windshield. It completely detached. I was adjusting it as I would any other time I adjusted the rear view mirror. This obviously left me in a lurch because I had to go to work. So I drove without a rear view mirror until I could get a replacement after the work day. This is obviously a dangerous situation to be in. I reached out to safelite because they have a lifetime warranty. They informed me that they will not cover replacement because a small piece of glass came off of the windshield which according to them means it must have been a result of force.

Brakes: hydraulic brake pedal has to be pressed to the floor before vehicle stops. The lifters made loud noises & rattling & needed to be changed. Rear door is off line & not shutting properly. Customer states drivers side mirror fell off. The check engine light is on due to oxygen sensor failure. The rear hatch does not close properly. The customer stated that there was a ticking noise at engine when hot or cold, this happens all the time. Dome light screw fell off, dealer found loose ground at light, the ground was resecured and a new screw was installed.
The glass portion (only) of the left outside rear view mirror was broken and the dealer advises that replacement is available only as a complete assembly which the dealer says must be purchased as a complete assembly at a cost of approximately $350 including painting of the mirror surround. I looked at the unit and find that the mirror glass is bonded to a black plastic backing that snaps in place. There is no reason other than to pad the bill for the entire unit to be replaced. The dealer will not show us the parts fiche and kia customer service is non-responsive. Can you provide a copy of the parts book breakdown of the left outside rear view mirror for this vehicle? I will appreciate it and will then be able to replace the broken mirror and restore this important safety feature at a reasonable cost. I can see no reason for the broken part to cost, at retail, more than $35 and the installation labor is incidental as it only involves snapping it in place. Thank you very much. Dt.
