I bought a 2017 kia Sportage with a salvage title at auction on [xxx] for my wife, [xxx]. It had 57,463 miles on the engine. Before it reached the 60,000-mile warranty limit (only for non-salvage title vehicles), it showed error code p1326 and went into limp mode which makes the vehicle drive at a very slow speed to avoid damage to the engine. For an explanation of limp mode, go to the web address below: [xxx] despite my wife's kia Sportage not being under warranty, the vehicle's electronic system takes control and slows the vehicle making it unsafe for continued driving. Despite the kia manufacturer no longer having a financial interest in a non-warranted vehicle, their electronics system prevents me from managing or using my vehicle. The dealerships will not do any repairs or bypass the control system and their only solution is an expensive engine replacement. 1. The kia displays error code p1326 which is the subject of numerous complaints to dealers throughout the u. S. The problem is the kia goes into limp mode with no remedy. Available for inspection. [xxx] while the lawsuit above refers to Ford products, the statement regarding loss of power significantly increasing the risk of a crash does pertain to my complaint against the kia limp mode. 2. Risk - see link above 3. Archer kia at 11614 sw frwy. In houston has confirmed and diagnosed the problem on 8-15-2024. 4. See #3 above. 5. The error code p1326 is the warning. Despite the kia manufacturer no longer having a financial interest in a non-warranted vehicle, their electronics system prevents me from managing or using my vehicle. The dealerships will not do any repairs or bypass the control system and their only solution is an expensive engine replacement. Driving on the highway at 65mph, engine light started blinking then stayed solid and my speed declined to 40mph and would not go higher. Had to stay in slow lane to get off and get back on to make it home. I was unsure as to what was happening. It was the weekend so had to wait until Monday until I could find out and the dealership told me it was the valve cover gasket (which is brand new). I was also told they couldnt do anything else for me I need a long block assembly.

When I achieved my desired speed while driving on the highway, I turned on my adaptive cruise control as I usually do. This time, the car began accelerating dramatically, set on 110mph instead of my desire 55mph. It did this twice, even after I turned off the cruise control. I parked on the side of the street and restarted the car before it returned to normal. My life was very much threatened while I was driving as well as the lives of my fellow highway drivers that night. I will be taking this to my dealership but I also need this reported.
I purchased my car in August 2022, and the cruise control issue began in September 2023. It occurs randomly and significantly makes me feel unsafe in my vehicle. I have not been able to enjoy full use of my vehicle. Kia has been aware of this issue since at least April 2024 (when they first called me), even though I made my report to the NHTSA in October 2023 (NHTSA 11549711). Today, kia informed me that the video that I risked my life to take of my car almost killing me and other road drivers was not enough and that they could not replicate the issue. The response time from my case manager has literally been atrocious. These issues have significantly limited my use and enjoyment of the vehicle, making me regret my purchase. I did not expect to rely on rentals without the features that led me to choose this car, especially due to delays in addressing my case.
The contact owns a 2023 kia Sportage. The contact stated that while driving forward into a parking space at a very slow speed and while pressing the brake pedal, the vehicle suddenly experienced unintended acceleration and drove over the stop bump and a curve before crashing into a building wall. During the crash, the contact sustained a head injury which later required medical treatment. A police report was taken at the scene and the vehicle was driven away. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The local dealer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 37,000.
While driving, the car came to an abrupt stop. Lights and alarms flashed stating "do not drive" "hybrid system malfunction". Car could not be driven. Had I been on the highway, which I just exited, I could have been dead with how suddenly the car stopped without prior warning. The warning came when the car was shutting down. It has now been at the dealership for 3 weeks and they are unable to pinpoint the problem. Apparently they are selling hybrids with no one to work on them. Smh.
The engine light came on and it started making loud noise, then the car started pulling on its own and it stop in the middle of the road. My safety issue was I had to keep my driver hood open so other visible drivers could know my car had an issue. Later on, that day I took my car to the mechanic and the mechanic said I have an oil leak and that's why my car started acting like that. The mechanic told me my car was ready to go, so I paid him and left thinking my car was fine. I drive 6 miles away from the car shop and my car broke down in the middle of the road. So, I had to call the tow truck people to tow my car until I could really find out what's wrong with my car.

2011 kia Sportage engine stalling/failure. Has been having oil pressure/heating/oil feed line/consumption issues. Taken to a kia dealership on multiple occasions for all routine maintenance, including every 3000 oil changes. Owner was told that a catalytic converter was needed in 2021 due to engine stalling/ failure while driving 55-60mph on highway to a rapid deceleration and vehicle would go >20mph. Owner had car towed to kia dealership and had a new catalytic converter put on in 2021 by dealership. Then in 2022 same engine stalling occurred again. Taken back to dealership and was told car needed waste gate actuator replaced. Owner agreed to cost/repairs. Then during repair was told that another catalytic converter was needed due to sludge/clogging, when one was put on less than 1. 5 years prior. With less than 20k miles on new one. Car engine continues failing and will not accelerate above 20-25 mph. Check engine light has come on and been diagnosed numerous times from 2018, when oil issues started to 2023. Both dealership and manufacture are aware of recurrent issues.
While on a 65 mph enforced highway, cruise control was turned on via the button on the steering wheel. The digital cruise control set itself at 110 mph and the vehicle began to accelerate to match the speed. Aside from turning on the cruise control, no other buttons on the steering wheel were pushed. The car’s cruise control feature had previously been set at 70 mph to match current conditions and was used regularly throughout the length of the trip. While the car continued to accelerate on its own to match the self-set speed, we tried to decrease the speed both by trying to set it at the current speed, and by holding the dial down to decrease the speed manually. The car did not reflect any changes in speed and a message popped up saying “cruise control conditions not met” and it tried to disengage cruise control and acceleration. Driver had to manually turn off the cruise control function. Upon additional attempts to use cruise control and set speed to match current driving conditions, the same issue occurred. A recording of the incident was taken to be able to show proof that the car’s digital functions are to blame. Had the cruise control function not been able to be manually disengaged, the car would have continued to accelerate on its own to dangerous speeds. Dealer has been unable to replicate issue and has escalated incident to kia’s corporate office.
My car won’t go up to speed and it keeps throwing out it’s the turbo boost sensor not only that I almost crashed when I pushed on the brakes a little bit.

I was driving home from work on the expressway driving around 60 miles when my car out of no where started jerking and lost speed as driving at some points I could go over 40 I had to put my hazards on and drive at a speed of 30 on the expressway when I parked the car and put my foot on gas pedal I could not drive had a mechanic look at it they said it was my knock sensor.
With the cruise control set at highway speed (65pmh, etc) if you push the foot controlled parking brake it will not cancel the cruise control. The vehicle increases the acceleration to maximum and overrides the parking brake input. If using the parking brake in an emergency you would stomp on the parking (emergency brake) and not be able to slow down unless separately cancelling the cruise control.

Had vehicle worked on, on 4/11/2023 ( oil change &tuneup). On 4/17/2023 exiting 151 hwy vehicle slowed down on me, then regained speed to safety at a shell gas station. Vehicle started with a loud noise coming from the engine compartment. Got worried, had vehicle towed home. Have been trying to get a hold of kia but they don't answer phone or hang up on me, since I have no warranty on vehicle cause I couldn't afford it. Just wanted to pay it off since I only needed one more year at 140011 miles on it. My first kia lasted longer than that. I currently owe under 3,500 on it. Need help please.
On the morning of may 16 2023 while making a turn at 17 th avenue and bayshore drive my car continued to accelerate in spite of me trying to brake. I was projected into a stone wall and knew I was going to crash . I crashed into the wall, all my airbags were deployed and the car smelled like smoke. My accelerator got stuck and was sideways . I was unable to get out of the car from inside but a good samaritan had opened the door from the outside and I crawled under the airbags and got out . The car did not go on fire but was still on when I was able to then turn it off . Police were called and I was checked at the hospital .
My cruise control works some times and then it doesn't. I was driving 80 mph with my cruise control on and couldn't shut it off. Finally stepping on the brake door work to shut it off. I can't see the mileage driven more than half the time, as well.

Was traveling northbound on i5 between lacey and dupont, washington. Vehicle was in cruise at 65, then it suddenly went into limp mode. I was in the furthest right lane possible on the highway, and rpms drastically dropped to below 1,000. I was able to get the vehicle pulled over to the right shoulder safely while the vehicle dropped to approximately 10mph on the freeway. The vehicle died as soon it was placed in park. When attempting to turn the vehicle on, all engine light warnings displayed (this was not present when the vehicle went into limp mode) and would not start. I checked for oil levels, which showed they were only slightly low. No leaks in engine compartment and no leaks underneath the vehicle. Vehicle would attempt to start after the 5th consecutive attempt, and began knocking. Rpms would not exceed 1,500rpms with the gas pedal compressed. Towed to kia, kia rejecting warranty. Vehicle is a 2022 kia Sportage ex, only 60,000 miles on it. Still waiting on official denial letter, but this issue was prevalent in previous models of Sportage vehicles from kia. I'm thankful I was able to maneuver safely to the shoulder of a busy highway during dark hours, I could have been killed if a vehicle hit me from behind with how suddenly the vehicle's speed dropped, almost coming to a complete stop.

The contact owns a 2018 kia Sportage. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle independently accelerated with the tachometer elevated to 5,000 rpm’s. The contact shifted into neutral(n) to correct the failure. Neither the dealer nor the manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 87,000. The VIN was not available.
Sudden acceleration accident.
The car is currently in the shop at jim shorkey gainesville kia and is available for inspection. They have contacted me to tell me the transmission/engine failed. I was driving on interstate when I suddenly lost the ability to accelerate and was forced to get off of the highway. After coming to a complete stop I pressed on the gas pedal but the car would still not accelerate. I tried putting into park and back into drive and that did not work. I tried putting it into manual mode and it did go forward but every gear change was loud, jerky, and rough. I was able to make to my next complete stop in a left turning lane to cross a two lane busy highway that is coming downhill towards me at an intersection that does not have a traffic signal. However the car was stuck in gear 5. I was the first car in line. At this point I put other cars in danger as they swerved back into the high way to get around me into the intersection to make that left turn across busy highway. I turned the car completely off and after a minute turned it back on. I put in drive, waited until I couldn't see any cars coming down the hill and I pressed the gas pedal to test. It jerked forward and I managed to get across the highway as it shifted into the second gear it jerked violently and made a loud popping noise and there after every single gear change was loud and jerky. Thank god I did not lose the ability to accelerate in that left turn because those cars are coming at 70+ miles per hour down that hill or my family would have been t-boned on their passenger side. I am also lucky that I was able to get off the nearest exit when they problem originally happened as I was going downhill on the interstate and the next exit was very close so my momentum got me there. I lost the ability to control the vehicle as I ordinarily would putting myself, my family, and other motorists in danger had we not been able to get off on the exit or make it through that left turn.
I had a number of systems suddenly cut out on me. The dealership thinks it was a fuse or fuses that went bad. They affected the car's following systems: * primary instrument cluster (left side) * forward collision avoidance-assist w/car, pedestrian and cyclist detection * advanced collision avoidance (auto-breaking) * lane following assist * lane keeping assist * driver attention warning w/ leading vehicle departure alert * blind-spot collision-avoidance assist (in mirrors) * door unlock warning (I received several warnings that my doors were unlocked even when they were locked) * entrance/exit chime * blinker sound * compass * internal navigation (gps worked but because the compass was broken, the mapping system did not know which way my car was traveling. ) * fuel efficiency was incorrect. I never got above 31 miles to the gallon.
The contact owns a 2023 kia Sportage. The contact stated after his wife stopped at a traffic light, the vehicle accelerated independently and caused to crash the vehicle ahead of them. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The air bags did not deploy. The contact stated no one was injured nor sought medical attention. A police report was filed. The vehicle was not drivable. The contact towed the vehicle to the local dealer. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 50.
I was driving with my cruise control set at 70 mph, on highway 95 ( the speed limit ) while driving my vehicle suddenly dropped to 40 mph, all dashboard lights began to flash. I had problems with the steering as I attempted to pull over. I had a tractor trailer behind me on a major highway. When I came to a complete stop, my engine light kept flashing. I drove my car to the kia dealership in GA, where they determined my engine failed ( software issues ) there were no prior warnings. My vehicle had been serviced just a few weeks prior. Kia is fully aware of these ongoing engine failures according to my local kia dealer rep.

On Sunday I was getting on the expressway and my car accelerated on its own. I hit the brake and the car was ok. That was may 22, 2020, on Wednesday, may. 25,2020 I was pulling into a parking spot at kroger store and my car accelerated on its own and I hit a pole. Over $4000. 00 damaged to my car but I was not hurt. I took my car to the dealer and they checked it and said nothing was wrong. I am afraid to drive it. I don't want to hurt anyone or myself. There were no warning lights.

Check engine light came on after I exit the ramp getting onto I-75. The vehicle started to stall. The vehicle started making a jerking move as though it was loosing power. I had to pull over in the side of the highway. I turned off the vehicle for about 5 minutes and turned it back on. I pull back onto the highway and noticed that when I press the gas it started repeating the same as I stated before and it wouldn’t accelerate pass 65 mph. When you slow down to about 20 mph and press the gas it stalls really bad as though it’s about to cut off. The acceleration hands jumps back and forth between 1 and 2 when pulling off.
I have taken my 2017 kia Sportage in the dealer several times due to loss of power and hesitation when trying to accelerate. They always say they cant find any issue. Also, my kia is using or losing oil. I get oil changed every 5000 miles and the last two changes I had less then the low mark, barely showing on dip stick. I have had to add quarts of oil after only 2000 miles since oil change. Oil light does not come on, even when showing no oil on dip stick. It is very scary when I go to accelerate and nothing happens when trying to get on on rap for highway.
There are moments when I am driving that the vehicle will suddenly decelerate for no reason. At that point, I have to pull over, turn the vehicle off and then back on for it to move. This is frightening at the least as it happens with no warning and sometimes I'm on the freeway. I have had a couple of mechanics look at it and they can't figure out why it does this. I've asked kia twice and they don't give a response. I'm afraid that it will happen one day when I'm not in a position to pull over without getting hit.
The computer monitor says," bootloader started insert usb with file" nothing on the screen works. It never shuts off. Even when the car is off and the keys are out of the ignition. It kills the battery. We have taken the fuse out and it shuts off but I can't use the hatchback. It stays in the locked position. I also can't use the power locks. I took it to a kia dealer and they could not figure it out. They sent me on my way.
We were driving steady at about 45 mph and the rpm gauge rubbed at random just once every time. It has happened more than once we don't change your speed or anything it just rubs up to about 5000 rpm and go back to normal and does it sporadically.
On interstate the cruise comes on by itself and hitting the brakes, turning to cruise off does not shut it off. It keeps excelerating 10 miles at a time. Happened 4 times. Traveling 72 mph, turn onto exit car will not slow down, keeps excelerating. . Car is dangerous dealer says never happened as the computer says cruise and brake never used.
As I was driving the engine bogged down and when not accelerate so when I pushed down hard on the gas it finally kicked in super hard causing me to crash into a pole.
I was driving at 45mph, went into the opposite lane to pass a vehicle and the engine revved into the 7000rpm range, all the lights came on in the dash, and it immediately lost power. I pulled to the side of the road and the engine stopped. I tried to restart the engine and it wouldn't even crank over. No warning lights had come on prior to this and my oil is changed regularly. The engine is now "locked" up. I am reading this has been a frequent problem, but my vehicle VIN shows no recalls. This was on a 55mph highway, while passing at approximately 55mph.

Airbag clock spring does not work properly. It has been recalled on other kia's but not mine. I was told to just turn the steering wheel to get the cruise to work, but don't know if that will make the airbag work in case of an accident if it's not fixed!!.
I was driving on the highway with the cruse control set at 65 and the vechile started to increase speed on it's own I attempted to turn off the cruse control by pressing the brake and turning off the system the car slowed until I removed my foot from the brake, then it began to accelerate again. Once I was able to stop the vehicle the engine continued to try and force it's way back to moving speed on it's own, I was able to get the vehicle in park and the engine speed increased to full throttle on it's own. I was able to shut down the engine and restart the vehicle, it was behaving normally about 10 minutes of driving later I attempted to stop the vehicle and the problem returned and it started accelerating again on it's own. I was able to shut the vehicle down.

When I accelerate sometimes the car will jerk and the engine will try to stall. The car will still go but starts to sputter and start to lose power. You have to pull over and shut the engine off and set there for a bit and restart the engine and it may do it again 2 or 3 more times and it might not do it for awhile. But very dangerous when pulling out into traffic. It will also do it when you try to speed up to pass or just gain speed.
