Wiper Problems of Kia Motor Sportage - part 2

My sunroof "exploded" on Saturday, oct. 14, 2017. I was driving on a highway and there was some traffic. After the initial "boom" and rush of wind we heard glass shattering. The sunroof and shade were closed, thankfully! I pulled over and attempted to collect the glass but I was getting cut so most of the glass remained on the sun shade.

While backing my 2014 kia Sportage out of my garage, I heard a loud noise. It almost sounded like a tire blowout. Upon inspection, all 4 tires were fine. The entire front separate portion of the panoramic sunroof had exploded / shattered.

This morning I was backing out of my driveway when all of a sudden I heard a loud bang. I got out to look, assuming it was a tire. Upon looking over the vehicle I could not see any issues but did notice a crackling sound. When I looked on the top of the car the rear section of the panoramic sunroof was shattered in each corner and when I looked closer I noticed in the center it was cracked as well but was still being held together. I decided that I needed to take the car straight to the dealership (70 miles away). By time I got there the back portion of the sunroof looked even worse and was starting to cave in. The service manager stated he had never seen this happen before and that I needed to get in contact with my insurance as they would more than likely not cover this under my warranty or even my extended warranty that I had purchased. Keep in mind I bought this only 36 days ago, brand new off the lot. The service manager claimed he saw a chunk of metal in that portion of the sunroof and claimed that obviously something had hit it. However, as I pointed out to him, that was not metal at all but simply a chunk of glass at a different angle from the glass slowly falling inward. The current mileage on my car is 6,500 miles. I have attached 4 images. 3 are of when it initially happened and the last one is what it looked like when I got it to the dealership.

Driver"s sun visor suddenly dropped down into field of view. Will not retain position out of field of view of driver.

The contact owns a 2013 kia Sportage. The contact was traveling at an unknown speed during inclement weather when an unknown object stuck the top of the vehicle. The impact caused the sunroof glass to shatter and the sunroof area was cracked. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for repairs. The authorized dealer was not able to inform the contact of when the part would become available to complete the repair. The contact had been waiting for months for the repair part to become available. The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the issue. The approximate failure mileage was 5000.

My kia Sportage was parked in the parking lot of my employer here in everett, wa. It was not a hot day, only around 78 degrees. When I returned to my Sportage around 3:30 pm I noticed the front sunroof glass panel was completely shattered. It looked like an explosion happened. Nothing fell on the glass, no vandalism. I had the cloth internal liner closed and that saved the interior from millions of pieces of glass. This sunroof (or panoramic glass panel) exploded on its own without anything contacting it. If I would have been driving this could have been a horrible accident. There are many other reports on the internet of similar explosions on kia and Hyundai products. Is there any safety investigations happening on this issue? this is a design flaw that needs to be addressed.

My my2009 kia Sportage's sun visor won't hold up and I am afraid that if I am involved in an accident, my head will hit the hanging-down visor first; it creates a serious safety concern. I searched online and learned there was a technical service bulletin (TSB) issued by kia in July of 2010 only for my2008 Sportage with the same issue. Kia knew there are issues with their sun visor design and in my opinion they should also include many other model years in the TSB.

Its approx 57 degrees out. 6:30 am this morning went outside to start car came, back 10 minutes later to go to work and found a crack (which wasn't there when I started the car) from bottom left corner up to the top. On my way to work another crack started in the middle of the windshield. My car is 9 weeks old, no accident, no chips. When I called the car dealer they said call my insurance company it should be covered. I told them that I felt they should take care of it. They told me no. What will happen in the dead of winter?.
