Warnings Problems of Kia Motor Telluride - part 1

Component/system failed: engine — excessive oil consumption and oil leaks leading to complete engine failure requiring full engine replacement. Vehicle is currently at my home and available for inspection upon request. Safety risk: my vehicle became completely inoperable while in use as my primary family transportation. As a parent of three children this has left my family without safe reliable transportation. An inoperable vehicle also creates safety risks related to emergency situations where transportation is critical. Confirmed by dealer: yes. An authorized kia dealership confirmed the engine defect and approved a full engine replacement. The repair has not yet been performed. Inspections: vehicle has been inspected exclusively at an authorized kia dealership where all service and maintenance has been performed. Warning symptoms: this is the third time this vehicle has become inoperable due to what was previously identified as an oil issue but is now confirmed to be an engine defect. Prior to complete failure the vehicle exhibited ongoing oil leaks and excessive oil consumption over an extended period. Aaa roadside assistance was contacted and identified possible starter and battery failure believed to be connected to the engine condition. Additional note: I have identified NHTSA complaints from other 2020 kia Telluride owners reporting identical engine oil consumption and failure issues suggesting a pattern defect.

My instrument gauge cluster went out. Black! no speedometer, no gas gauge and it didn’t increase the mileage when I drive the vehicle. No safety gauges working. Kia dealerships will not accommodate me that day to fix it.

I am submitting this complaint to report multiple unresolved safety-related issues involving my 2024 kia Telluride that have not been properly addressed by either the authorized dealership or kia corporate. Issue #1: front bumper sensor / mounting bracket failure the front bumper sensor mounting bracket failed and detached without any impact, collision, or customer-caused damage. I did not strike anything, and there is no evidence of accident-related damage. This appears to be a manufacturing defect. This component is part of the vehicle’s front driver-assistance and safety sensor system. Because the bracket is damaged, I am concerned the sensor may be misaligned, inoperative, or providing inaccurate data, which presents a potential safety risk while driving. Issue #2: unrepaired safety recall – door belt molding I brought the vehicle to an authorized kia dealership (fred beans kia of langhorne) to have recall work completed, including a recall involving the door belt molding. After the service visit, I received conflicting information indicating that I may need to bring the vehicle back in for the same recall, and to date I have not received confirmation that this recall repair was completed. This recall involves door belt molding trim that can delaminate and detach from the vehicle, creating a road hazard and increasing the risk of a crash to myself and other motorists. I am concerned that I may currently be operating a vehicle with an open and unresolved safety recall. Despite multiple attempts to obtain clarification and direction from both the dealership and kia corporate customer care, I have received no clear confirmation of recall completion, no resolution of the sensor bracket failure, and no assurance that my vehicle is safe to operate. These unresolved issues raise serious concerns regarding: •the integrity and functionality of safety-related sensor systems •proper execution and documentation of safety recall repairs •manufacturer and dealer respons.

After receiving my car on Friday morning 10/31 from the dealership, I drove to work, where all my dashboard lights popped on, I lost power steering, and I lost my speedometer (which is what it was in the shop for that whole week). I tried to drive it back to kia and it completely stopped working in the middle of the road, even though it was turned on, it wouldn’t drive or change gears. Leaving me stranded in the middle of a 50 mile per an hour road. I had to call the police to help me maneuver off the road.

Rear shock failure for the second time. This time in under 9 months. Front crash detection constantly goes off in cold snowy weather or rain. Engine issue is frequent popping sound in exhaust and causing dirty oxygen sensors.

While driving on [xxx] the check engine light came on and engine started shaking and making abnormal noise. I was afraid to keep driving so requested a tow to bramlett kia in decatur, al. I told the service dept the issue as well as the issue listed below that I've been experiencing, and they told me it would be 3 weeks before they could even assess it as they are extremely backed up. I'm hoping the dealer service dept. Can reproduce the issue once they assess it. It has not been inspected by anyone else. I looked up my VIN # to make sure I had not missed a recall but there is no recall on my VIN #. Another issue I'm having is while using the lane keeping assistance the vehicle responds with the forward collision warning and brakes automatically when there is nothing in front of the vehicle. Front lights gets foggy when it gets hand wash, contacted the dealership and they are willing to replace the “gasket” because the headlights must have “ventilation”. While driving with nobody in front the collision warning went off non stop, the road was completely clear.

My main screen on my 2021 Telluride goes out suddenly, turning off the backup camera and collision warnings. Sometimes when I start the car it never turns on, sometimes it starts to boot and then goes out and sometimes it works for a few seconds/minutes and then turns off. Once and a while it turns on and stays on for days before going on randomly again.

While driving and/or starting the car, the power steering will go out, along with all safety lights/messages on dash, including check power steering, check forward collision sensor, check awd, check blind spot sensor, check parking sensor, etc. Only sometimes will turning the car on and off reset the sensor. Other times the car will start and all lights will illuminate and the power steering will not work. Happens intermittently, including while driving. Dealer and mfr have been unable to fix the issue due to the randomness. Additionally they have been able to see the lights malfunction, but the first attempt at repair did not address the issue. Car continues to lose power steering intermittently. Car is inoperable without power steering given the weight.

On [xxx] my vehicle had a collision warning signal, then tire pressure, then brake lights and entire dash instrument panel. I parked the vehicle, then later in the evening test drove it again and the panel lit up again, in addition to the loss of the speedometer, tachometer, gear display, and drive mode display, so I immediately drove it to courtesy kia in altoona, PA. On 4/18/25 wendy giordano of courtesy kia confirmed vehicle intake courtesy kia reset codes and was unable to replicate or diagnose a repair. The vehicle was returned on 4/23/25 despite my expressed concerns over safety. On [xxx] the vehicle again displayed the collision warning and the instrument panel lit up again, in addition to the loss of the speedometer, tachometer, gear display, and drive mode display. I got off the highway and limped the vehicle closer to my home, stopped for a brief time, and proceeded the three miles to the dealership. In this time I lost power steering, and eventually brake lights and turn signals within 1,000 feet of the dealership and was nearly collided with in front of the dealershipon 5/12 I continued to ask status and request a loaner with no adequate follow up. I was bounced between jt, tyler and wendy giordano my service advisor. Around 5/22 I called in requesting an update and was put on the phone with the service tech to describe my issues on 6/6/25 john from courtesy Ford left a 2 minute long rambling voicemail, 6/3 he said he received a fax. He said he spoke to service department and I could drive the car, that I could be driving the car now. "he wasn't sure what was going on with it" they've driven it and can't find anything. Kia is looking at video, service rep there on Tuesday and find nothing wrong. I think, how long and haven't had it long. Suggest you "just drive it, I don't know" in addition I've followed up with numerous emails and calls to determine course of action and repair and haven't had a productive repair plan. Software malfunction left the primary dashboard and all associated systems inoperable and in an unresposive state.

Intermittently, the forward collision system engages (including self-braking) inappropriately when car is moving and there are no objects that should engage system. Happens at lower cruise control speeds most often. I started noticing after an update was installed to my vehicle in late Aug 2024. I went to jeff wyler fairfield kia, 5815 dixie highway, fairfield, OH 45014. They refused to fix issue for unknown reasons. Obviously, a car braking suddenly without warning when moving is a serious issue that can result in serious injury, death.

Subject: urgent safety complaint regarding recall delays for my kia vehicle dear national highway traffic safety administration, I am reaching out to file a safety complaint regarding an ongoing recall issue with my kia vehicle that has not been addressed, despite multiple attempts to have it resolved. Kia has been aware of the necessary recall for several months, and I recently scheduled an appointment with my local dealership to address these recalls. Unfortunately, the dealership canceled my appointment the day before, citing that they still do not have the necessary parts to complete the repair. This situation has escalated to a serious safety hazard, not only for my family and me but for others around us. Recently, while my vehicle was parked at my child’s school, I experienced a malfunction that caused the vehicle to roll forward while still in park. I was momentarily unaware of the movement and was horrified to realize it almost struck a mother and her child who were exiting the school. This has been a frightening and deeply disappointing experience, and I am concerned about the lack of urgency from kia in addressing this issue. I urge NHTSA to look into this matter and take action as needed to ensure that kia expedites the resolution of these critical safety recalls. Turned car on to go to work and cluster infotainment screen with speedometer and gas gage was blank.

On multiple occasions, the forward automatic breaking system has forced the breaks to turn on when there was no potential collision, causing the car to auto break/slow down in the flow of traffic and nearly get rear ended. The collision warning system triggers and the breaks quickly come on, out of my/the driver’s control. It has happened multiple times with family members in the car including young kids/infants/while I was pregnant and getting rear ended would be very dangerous. I’ve taken the vehicle to the dealership twice and have been told they are unable to replicate the issue and therefore unable to help.

When driving with my speed control set at 35 to 45 mph, I will sporadically and without warning get a forward collision warning, and the car brakes. When this occurs, there is absolutely nothing around that should cause this warning. The warning occurs for no reason at all. I took the car to my kia dealership and also provided them with videos taken at two different times. They kept my car for seven weeks and just returned it to me having done nothing to fix the problem. The reason stated was that the kia engineers felt that they needed to have the dealer reproduce the problem. Because it is sporadic one, the dealer was not able to reproduce the problem. However, the dealer did acknowledge that I had a problem, but said there was nothing more they could do. The danger is that if someone is following you closely behind and all of a sudden you get this forward collision warning that breaks the car, the car behind has to break suddenly in order to avoid a rear end collision. I have researched online and find that there are other owners of this same car that have had the same problem. I found only one instance where kia accepted the videos as evidence of the problem, and apparently gave the dealer instructions that when accomplished, seem to have fixed the problem. I have tried to include several videos of these incidents but can’t figure out how to send them to you.

My entire instrument cluster/dashboard display is blank. I cannot see my speed, how fast I am going, collision warnings, if my lights are on, etc. I have called the dealership, and they indicated there is no active recall. They said they cannot diagnose and fix the issue for a month. This is a major safety issue, since I have no indication of my speed or gas or anything else. It is all controlled by the dash that is blank.

Navigation system shows the directional cursor moving sideways or upside down. This causes the vehicle to constantly alert loudly and with large red do not enter signs on my dash and heads up display. The system audibly alerts over and over for the driver to turn around “wrong way detected check driving direction immediately!” this has been going on since I drove off the lot. The kia service agent have me waiting for a navigation update that has never come or have not given me a date when to expect this fix. I am confident that the repair will not fix this problem.

The front bumper sensor has stopped working. This is preventing proper function of the forward collision warning and the parking collision warning. I took this to be fixed to executive kia of wallinford, CT and they identified corrosion of the component as the cause of the failure. My car has had no accidents or damage to bumper so any corrosion is due to improper sealing of part, or weather proofing of bumper. An online search identified many other kia owners dealing with this same issue. My extended warranty through fidelity inc sent out an inspector to review this and they are refusing to cover the cost of the fix since it is due to "corrosion. " including photos my kia dealer mechanic sent me of the corrosion.

While driving on a large 4 lane highway, using the adaptive cruise control, the car automatically applied the brakes with no visible obstruction. From what I remember, no collision alarm or warning was given. Car rapidly decelerated, until I overrode by applying the gas. This happened three times, on the same road. Twice on one trip, and a third time a week later. All false activations occurred while road was at slight curve.

I have a few issues: 1. I can be driving on an empty road and I get alerted that I am about to hit someone and it brakes on its own. With no one in sight in either direction. 2. My alarm keeps going off when I leave the vehicle due to motion being detected but no one is in the vehicle and it is locked. 3. My lane assistance has tried running me off the road multiple times. 4. When I park my car continues to rolls.

The forward collision warning has been turning on and off for no reason. River oak kia has checked the system once. My windshield has cracked twice. I am having a third windshield installed when I obtain the funds. I purchased the car on 12/30/2023. The windshield has cracked two time and I am about to install third windshield. I am having the same problem with my 2021 palisade.

While driving the kia Telluride, the forward collision avoidance warnings started flashing, then said it was failing, then the tire pressure system did the same, then the speedometer and tachometer failed as did the turn signals, gear shift, and lights. The car was becoming unsafe to drive. The car has been at the dealer for 3 weeks now, the dealer changed the cluster assembly-instrument at at cost of $2600. Within 1/2 of leaving the dealership the same problem noted above began happening, again making the car unsafe to drive. In researching on line at the kiatelluride forum there have been a large number of similar unsafe occurrences by other kia Tellurides as reported by owners. This is a serious safety problem that has been noted numerous times. (I can't get my images of the 2 page dealer invoice for cluster assembly-instrument $2600 that did not solve the problem to download on this form. ).

On February 16th at about 6 am, I was in a collision. I was first hit in the front by a pickup truck impacting my frontside, from right to left. I expected my kia Telluride to engage it's safety features such as, automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, and at the very least the airbags, which none of them deployed at anytime during this collision. I was then rear-ended by an 18-wheeler; smashing my entire back window. The 18-wheelers' trailer that it was holding then slide down on the passenger side of my 2021 kia Telluride. With that my vehicle was then pushed into the guardrail from the impact and power of the trailer falling on the passenger side. My vehicle has been inspected by my insurance company, geico inc. As they declared my vehicle a total loss. There was no warnings, or any indicators that my vehicles safety issues were compromised and the date of my vehicles last service by the dealer, demontrond automotive group was October 4, 2023. I have pictures of my vehicle, where it will reflect; the damage the vehicle endured, the airbags intact; and the back window shattered.

There were 2 lanes going in the same direction and I was on the right. The road was turning to the right and ended up hitting a car in the lane on the right. Road conditions were wet but no puddling. I depressed the brake pedal to reduce my speed for the turn, but and I kept going as if I hadn't hit it at all. By moving from the right to the left lane, the car was going up a slight bank. There was no skidding, no rumbling from the anti-lock, just a steady forward motion. I was so caught off guard with this unusual movement of the car that I thought my brakes had locked, so I didn't bother try turning the wheel.

Harness and wires damaged and chewed by woodchuck causing multiple warning lights and malfunctions including headlight; turning signal and temperature to suddenly stop working, resulting in front wiring harness replacement and repairs costing over $7k in damage.

The horn quit working on the vehicle after pushing on it. Both the low and high horn had to be replaced. The vehciles rear differential was replaced due to continued loud sounds coming from the rear and constant wheel slippage. The rear differential replacement did not fix the issue.

While I was driving my forward collision warning indicator started flashing on my dashboard while a dinging sound went off. There was nothing around me, then my tire pressure warning started going off while my pressure was fine. The indicators would switch back and forth between both warnings, then my mirror sensors were indicating that something was next to both of my mirrors while nothing was there. Then all of my warning indicators began flashing and continued to flash. Once these issues started my back up camer no longer worked while I was in reverse. I brought my vehicle days later when the issue persisted to the place I bought it and they are ordering a new back up camera with no real explanation. Considering this relates to a collision warning something in the vehicle meant to prevent a collision, not working properly my opinion is this is a safety issue.

Had my seven year old granddaughter in my vehicle and was momentarily distracted and the traffic in front of me stopped for geese crossing. I was in cruise control and my forward collision warning system failed to work! no accident as I took the ditch. Kia America inc. Had a voluntary recall for this problem and I took it in to my dealer and they reprogrammed the system. Did not work so I called kia to see when there would be a recall? they told me to take my vehicle to a different dealer? as this is a safety issue I am concerned and even though they acknowledged it is a problem they seem to not want to do anything!.

The driver dashboard went blank except for randomly flashing nonsense numbers. Vehicle speed, fuel level, engine rpm and other vehicle information was lost. Additionally forward collision avoidance, lane keep and departure, adaptive cruise, emergency braking and blind spot warning systems became inactive. I am unsure if the antilock brake system and stability controls are functional. My safety was put at risk because I was unsure of vehicle speed and loosing all driver assistance tools. The problem has been persistent since it 1st occurred. The vehicle is going to the dealer today, 05 June 2023. Immediately before the driver dash going blank, the entire driver dashboard showed all warnings lights before going blank.

Purchase brand new 2023 Telluride ex x line. Currently have 500 miles on the dash and it still shifts very rough from 1 to 2 gear while going at low speeds around 5-15 mph. I have tried changing the drive settings from comfort, Smart, sport, eco and it still has jerky gear shift in every setting. Also getting very low gas mileage. I thought it jusy needed few miles to break in but problem is still there. Also does not even give you warning sounds of when getting to close to car infront when parking like it does in the rear. Not what I expected from a brand new car that cost around $55,0000. Wish I would have just sticked to the Acura or Lexus.

After 3 months, vehicle started showing intermittent warnings at startup related to multiple collision warning systems-- forward collision, blindspot sensors, rear cross traffic. Over a few weeks, it was no longer intermittent and occurred every time. Multiple acd systems wouldn't function due to blind spot sensor failures. Multiple repair attempts and issue occurred again and dealer has been unable to repair.

While in drive, the battery discharge warning was displayed inconsistently, similar to what had occurred sporadically on January 21 and January 23. Without notice, multiple indicator lights started flashing, including low tire pressure, safety features such as check forward collision assist system, and more. Power steering failed, and ultimately had to coast into a safe location. This resulted in a tow to the dealership, where after multiple days, the dealership found that the alternator failed and replaced it under warranty. This could have negatively impacted not only my safety but the safety of others as the vehicle safety features were not operational and I lost full functionality of the vehicle such as power steering loss. All regular maintenance and satisfaction of recalls had been completed by a kia-authorized dealership before this event.

The pearl white paint on my car started chipping off about a year ago. This morning the roof started peeling heavily. This is ridiculous as the car is just now 4 years old. I’ve never had a car peel ever. The forward collision sensor randomly comes on and says it’s not working. Please fix these issues.

Driver assistance causing car to slow down or come to a complete stop on freeway when another car cut in front of me. Also, slowed down when car approaching me getting in turning lane. It is not operating correctly can lead to someone hitting you!.
