Car just loses power and stops while driving at 60mph on highway. I took it in to mechanic and was told that the fuel pump shut off. After getting fuel pump replaced, the car continues to lose power at random times while accelerating. Very dangerous!.

I was driving 70mph, out of no where, the car down shifted, "the hill decent! light came on, f4 began flashing. I lost control briefly but regained it.

1 numerous problems over several years, including (but not limited to) sudden loss of coolant and oil. And yesterday, a strong smell of hot oil, and sudden squealing from right, front wheel. 2 complete loss of engine power. Vehicle is no longer drivable. 3 contacted landrover.

I have a landrover Freelander 2003. The car needed a new engine at 41,000 miles and right after that transmission seals had to be repaired right after that air. Heating units were replaced now the car is at 73,000 miles and the dealer is telling me that I need a new engine again for the same problem coolant and oil mixing ,which was the problem I had in 2007 when they replaced the engine. The car is at the dealer for the past two weeks and they are refusing to give me a loaner because I have contacted Land Rover to see what they are going to do about the garbage of a car and they are taking their time resolving the issue.

2003 Freelander Land Rover - transmission died at 40000 miles and coolant system failed 2 weeks later. Dealer will not repair, car is incredibly unreliable and hence unsafe.

I am having problem with the entire engine system. I spent $1000 repairing the timing belt, yet the timing belt persist with engine failure. Mass airflow meter keep blowing up, I am bought 3 at $325 so far. I have spent another $2000 to get the engine fixed still no solutions. Highlight keeps coming on every time I press the brake light. The car won't speed up check engine lights come on, srs light is on everything in this car is bad as a result make it real unsafe. Please people try to do something for the people that drive this and hopefully get it off the market.

I purchased my 2003 Freelander landrover 11/05/08. I have had issues ever since both passenger side windows do not work taillights no longer working even after changing bulbs, fuel pump went lr did replace per recall, transmission has gone, instruments lights with in dash have gone out , tires are balding quickly after replacement.

At less than 40,000 miles I needed to have my transmission replaced and less than 50,000 I needed to have the engine replaced because of a headgasket problem. Also many other problems with the vehicle but these were the major ones.

The contact owns a 2005 Land Rover Freelander. The contact stated that when he was driving at low speeds and attempted to accelerate, there was a hesitation. The failure became more consistent whenever he drove the vehicle. The vehicle had not been inspected or repaired. Prior to the failure, the head gasket continued to lose antifreeze. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer who stated that the engine needed to be replaced. A local mechanic put a sealant to stop the leakage. The oil pump was also replaced in 2005 under warranty because it was leaking. The contact called the manufacturer and filed a complaint. The current mileage was approximately 50,500. The failure mileage was approximately 35,000.

2002 landrover Freelander. Bought with 4,000 miles from landrover of asheville, nc. Today at 67,000 miles they said the transmission needs to be replaced for 5k. I have had other problems with this vehicle but the sends me over the edge. I have been reading bloggs from other owners who stated having the same problem. What can be done.

A car made to break down on you. I bought a landrover Freelander 2002 and barely drove it. . . It had been a leased vehicle and was well taken care of. . . However. . . It broke down as soon as I got it. First it was a coolant problem, it overheated while I was driving it home from work. I live 5 miles from work. The first year I bought the car I put less than 1000 miles on it and had already brought it in at least 3 times for problems. The first was the coolant, and then I brought it in a few times since it constantly had this feeling as if the breaks were being applied. It has a hill decent button that would come on and I thought that was part of the problem, but it still did it regardless. It's as if the breaks were on and were stuck. And every time I brought it to landrover they said they couldn't find a problem. . . . Of course not. And then I had it in there and they said they had a bunch of "strange" codes pop up they hadn't seen before so they just "wiped" them as the man said. ??? he didn't bother to figure out why??? now. . . My car has been sitting for almost 3 years since I couldn't afford to fix the broken transmission. I have a total of 55350 miles on it. . Bought it at 43603 in 2005. All I see all over the internet is how these same problems have kept occurring and no one was held responsible for all the work and money that has to go into for fixing this. . . . It doesn't make sense that a company as large as landrover would be able to make a car that was bound to break down. . . And not have to fix the problems??? it ends up coming out of the pockets of the poor consumers who at this point are all on their own. I'm exceptionally disappointed. This was the first car I ever bought. . . I thought it was safe and I was having a baby 4 months later. All this vehicle has done is make my life more difficult. Thank you landrover. . . I will never ever buy a car from you. . . Or anything you make. You have no honor not to take care of your obvious mistakes in the creation of these cars.

Im an owner of a '04 Freelander Land Rover hse. The car is properly maintained, has 63k in the odometer. I bought the car last oct 07 with 49k on it. A few weeks after the 50k warranty ran out, the front axle broke down with out any reason at all. The car was 3 yr old, never driven off road, all highway miles on florida flat terrain. Then a two week ago, the car just suddenly stopped with an f4 warning on the dash. Brought it to Land Rover orlando and was diagnosed with a failed transmission, which will cost me $5700 to replace. Im now stuck with a broken car, with an upside down bank debt, and an almost value less "kelly blue book" car. For someone that has only been a year and a half in this country, and still building my credit record, I feel that this car was a real rip off. The manufacturer of the car should be able to help me out in the deep hole that im in now.

After multiple repairs to my 2002 Freelander including multiple window regulator failures. The transmission goes out. Dealer says they cant repair must replace.

2002 Land Rover Freelander - 72,000 miles: replaced 3 window regulators last year. On my way to work one morning & hill descent light came on, f / 4 light flashes, and it is jerky / jumpy while driving. No one can figure out the problem - 3 Land Rover dealerships in 5 weeks. My car is now 100 miles away, I was told it was fixed, but when I got there it was still doing the same thing. They looked at it again & I was told I need a new transmission for $4800. For some reason, no one could pick up the problem with the testers. I loved my car but after reading about all the chronic problems I don't know what to do with it. Plus, I owe about the same amount as the transmission! I will never buy a Land Rover again & they should be held responsible for all of these defective vehicles!.

Multiple problems expensive and hard to find parts, fuel pump, thermostat and transmission. SUV stalls in traffic, thermostat leaks constantly and transmission jerks violently in second gear.

Bought a 2002 Land Rover Freelander used a little over a year ago with under 55,000 miles. Just got it back yesterday from the shop with an estimated repair cost of over $10000. 00 and that is just in parts not labor. Did some research on the vehicle and come to find out others have had the same problems with less mileage on there vehicles and there have been absolutely no recalls on this vehicle that include any of these problems. The worst of which being the engine leaking antifreeze into the oil. This could cause the motor to overheat and seize and lock up. Who knows what kind of damage or what kind of accident this could have caused if this had happened to the vehicle when my wife was driving to work . We lucked out and discovered the problems before my wife, myself or anyone else got hurt. There are major problems with these vehicles and landrover should be held responsible.

I was driving on i45 on my way to work, when my 2002 Land Rover Freelander stopped working without any notice. I had to quickly do anything I could to ge out off the freeway with no power. It was one of the scariest days of my life. Thankfully the other drivers noticed that there was something wrong with the car and slowed and I was able to exit. I had to get the car towed to a shop where they told me that I needed a new fuel pump. I got it replaced and it worked well for 2 month and now its leaking fuel. The motor is also leaking antifreeze all over the place. You need to look into this cars. There's to many problems with it and complaints to go along. Thanks.

I purchased the 2004 Land Rover, Freelander in 2006. It has only 28000 miles on it. About a month after the purchase, I had to take it in to replace the window regulator. A few months later, I heard knocking noises under the hood. I took it back in (lr dealership) and they said there is loose washer somewhere. They were not able to replace the part, thus they only repaired the problem. I could still hear the noise, especially from a coldstart. I also had took it in for them to look at an ac problem. It sprays water out through the air vent. I report the problem at least 4 times. Everytime, they said they have fixed the problems. However, as of now, we still have that problem. Recently, we have a thermostat leak at 52000 miles. The SUV maintenance schedules are up to date. The SUV is 5 months and 3000 miles pass the warranty period. I have to pay $800 to repair the leak. Two days ago, will on the freeway (going 70mph), the service engine light came on. Then the engine stalled for a second and jerk forward violently. The service engine light went off and the tc (traction control) light turns on and the 'down hill' car symbol on the dashboard illuminates. The car was unable to start when I turned it off. I then let it sit overnight and was able to start. After the car has started, I notice the 'service engine soon' light illuminate. The SUV has only 53000 miles on it as of now. I feel that this car is poorly designed. Not only it put my life in danger, but it also put the lives of my wife and my 1 year old daughter. When we bought the SUV, we thought that it a safe SUV for our family. However, the incident two days ago almost put our lives in harm ways.

I have only had my 02 landrover Freelander for 3 months it has 90,000 miles and the transmission has gone and needs repaired. Of course the dealership doesn't care cause there was no warranty but I see this is common in these vehicles and something should be done.

Land rover Freelander 2002. 62 thousand miles and the transmission went out. This is going to cost me around $4,000 to fix. Apparently this vehicle is known to be a complete piece of crap.

I have a 2002 Land Rover Freelander se with 65,032 miles, and I was told the transmission now has to be replaced or rebuilt at a cost between $3500, to $4500. I bought the SUV in 2004 with 6,300 miles, and sins then at about 12,000 to 13,000 miles the water pump went out and had to be replaced. Also the on-board computer had to be replaced as will at about 33,000 miles. I called costumer service at Land Rover and they tolled me they would not do anything for me. I asked them if it was normal for this SUV?s transmission to go out at 65,000 miles, they would not answer my question.

I have had numerous problems with my 2002 landrover Freelander. Last month the gasoline broke while driving, spewing out a full tank of gas. This month, on my way for routine service, almost 200 miles away, the transmission went. I had it towed (for the fourth time) to landrover spokane who quoted me a price of 7100 dollars to fix my transmission. This car is just coming up to 55,000 miles.

2002 Freelander with 65,000 miles - rear window regulator replaced at 55k; now the entire transmission needs replaced. Land rover can no longer get the parts, so looking at a re-manufactured one at about $4,000. Dealership closed down and there has been no help!.

I bought an 02 Land Rover Freelander from a used car dealer and after about a year and a half, at only 60,000 miles, the transmission went out. The car no longer drives. No one will work on it and my only option is to replace the whole tranny for about 4 grand. I still owe a bunch and I just keep shelling out the towing costs to have it looked at. I'm going sell the stupid car and cut my losses. It sounds like there are a bunch of similar cases out there from what I've read online.

I have 78k on my '03 Land Rover Freelander and the transmission just went out with the f-4 flashing on the odometer, check engine light on, and the hill descent/traction control lights coming on. Took it to the dealer which I have the warranty through, and they said it needs to be replaced for $3300, and the warranty company won't cover it. It has been in the shop since the end of Feb '08 and I still haven't gotten it back, nor does anyone have any info on it. As far as events leading up to the incident, there was no warnings. It was running fine on the day prior, but then the next day it started shifting hard and the all the lights and codes occurred.

The engine/head gasket issue is the repair that is the most critical and terminal condition for the vehicle. The dealers mechanics will never fix the gasket, so they will only offer the engine replacement, but either repair will cost you more than the SUV is worth. And yes, the brake pads and then rotors wear out very quickly, because of the weight of the vehicle (the dealer says). I personally think it has more to do with the fact that there are 2 disc front brakes and 2 drum rear brakes on the vehicle, hence the wear and weight all goes to the front of the vehicle. Another poor design flaw issue, and I was told the drum brakes were there to better allow the off-roading. Yeah, who ever could off road these things, they fall apart on the driveway!.

We had just had our car in for servicing prior to a longer drive. While we were driving at highway speeds, our car accelerated without warning. The engine "revved" without any increase in speed. Once home, contacted our dealership where they proceeded to tell us that we would require a new transmission when we were only just out of warranty. They could not tell us what the cause of the problem was - only that it would cost upwards of $6000 to fix it by replacing the transmission. Prior to this, our dealership had our Land Rover Freelander for 4 weeks fixing other known problems such as the coolant system, again, just out of warranty for a fix of over $3000; once it was returned, the engine light came back on immediately (I. E. On our way home from picking the car up) - I returned immediately with the vehicle and was told that the engine block had been cracked which would require an additional $2000 plus in repairs (although they did discount us on this repair - more than likely because they had caused it). We have had nothing but difficulty with this vehicle. The issues began almost immediately from the date of purchase. Additionally, the Land Rover service people are less than helpful. I believe they are deceptive, arrogant, and lack the knowledge and skill required to fully service a vehicle. I have gone through three different dealerships to locate someone whom I trust to service this vehicle; finally, now that the care is out of warranty we will be going to a local repair shop where they were able to walk me through what was wrong with the vehicle and fix the problem.

2002 Land Rover Freelander with only 65,000 miles has had repairs that are beyond what should be normal, including a new transmission at 45,000 miles, two window regulators, multiple coolant leaks, blown head gasket. Dangerous on the road, due to stalling out for no reason, and overheating constantly. Have had to pay for multiple tows. Today, engine overheated in mall parking lot, leaving me stranded. All coolant poured onto the ground. Car needs a new engine at only 65,000 miles.

I always had a problem with transmission which was replaced once 2 year ago and now I need to do out of my pocket all over again.

Land rover Freelander 2002 transmission issues, traction control light stays on and check engine light. Transmission and engine issues galore, currently only have 54,000 miles on the vehicle.

During the repair of our transmission, we began to get check engine lights. After the transmission was fixed, it was taken to the dealer for service. Upon driving to the dealer, the car had no power. This became very difficult to drive and dangerous. Trying to get up to the 65 mph speed limit on a freeway took almost 2 miles. I was also worried the car would stall in traffic due to this condition. The car was serviced and it was determined that the mass airflow sensor and the variable intake motors 1 and 2 had failed. The variable intake motors had failed 15,000 miles /12 months before and were replaced during the long block replacement. After all repairs were completed the car was taken home. The next day the check engine light came on. The following day I scheduled an appointment. During the drive to the dealer, the same power problems were present. This made driving this car dangerous in that there was no way to know if it would accelerate. The dealer then determined that the air intake manifold gasket had cracked. This too was a new part from the long block repair 15,000 miles /12 months prior. Right now this repair is being performed. The Land Rover dealer acknowledges that these car should not be owned without any type of warranty due to the numerous problems.

While driving on highways and inclines I noticed my truck engine slipping and losing speed. . . When the decent indicator light came on, I looked into the manual only to find that the manual shows that particular control - but states nothing about the transmission- it says my problem is the brakes. I took my truck to the brake shop and yes my brakes were in need of its set of 2nd rotors. So I had that fixed. On my way to work a few nights afterwards, I was driving up a hill when my truck died. Transmission dead. My 2002 Land Rover Freelander's has only 69,000 miles on it. It is in need of rotors, a back window regulator and a transmission. I have already had overheating problems over and over again. This truck has been in the shop more than I have driven it. Headlight issues, brakes, water pump, temp gauge, engine problems, radiator and a few recalls. : (.
