I had to have my 2003 Land Rover Range Rover repaired for this very same problem in December, 2007. The dealer wanted much more than what I had paid for per the attached repair bill from euro car. When I received this letter, I called Land Rover north America and was told that I had to go through an authorized dealer to get reimbursed. . Read more...

I have a 2004 Range Rover and my brother has a 2003. I just had my car towed today to Land Rover to fix a diff problem that obviously most 2002-2005 models have and Land Rover wants to do nothing about it! mine has 64k on it and my brothers had 58k on it. Total bs that it breaks like that so quickly if at all. These are 78k trucks brand new. Totally unacceptable!.

I purchased a new 2004 hse Range Rover along with a warranty extension for 100,000 miles. During the second year of ownership, the "failed trans. Program" warning started to appear, the car would suddenly shift into "limp" mode (2nd gear) with a loud thud. Each time I took it to the dealership (3 different dealers) I was told it was just a sensor. Nothing to worry about. I have taken it in for repair for this issue more than 8 times, my warranty just expired, and now I am told that I need a new transmission. I am livid.
2003 Range Rover hse , loud knocking noise when going from reverse to drive, 5 minutes later a grinding noise happened that was very loud. The car responded with a loud grinding sound when trying to apply gas. I was lucky that I was not on a highway and could pull the car over. The check engine light illuminated, there was a radiator leak and the left rear tire had a slow leak. Updated 10/11/07.
While driving on I-75 the vehicle would not accelerate and shift gears. It started stalling and would do the same thing after the engine was turned off and on again. We drove 50-55 mph on a highway with 18 wheelers careening around us. Took the vehicle to the dealership, we were told that it needed a new transmission. No explanation was given as to why with a vehicle barely 5 years old and only had 42,000 miles accrued. We took it to a private transmission shop and they found the defect. There was a crack on the reverse piston which Land Rover was apparently aware of because an updated piston was manufactured. All we would like was a refund for the repairs done but we were told no because we didn't go to the dealership. If it weren't for the private shop, we wouldn't have known about the defect in the first place. I still have the piston and the crack is clearly visible.

The consumer states that 2000 Land Rover Range Rover came out of the park lock function. This happened three times. The consumer was in the vehicle all three times, was able to hit the brake, and put the parking brake on. The consumer turned the vehicle off all three times. The consumer had to put the parking brake on every time that he got out of the vehicle. The consumer called the dealership and asked about a recall. The dealership told the consumer that they were unaware of any recall on Land Rovers for transmission problems. The dealership did not believe the consumer when he told them about recall 00v377000 listed on the NHTSA website. The consumer has not contacted the manufacturer yet, but was going to do so. The consumer was going to have transmission flushed to correct the problem, but questioned if Land Rover was going to reimburse him for repair cost.

I had a 2006 Range Rover super charge with engine/transmission problem and coolant problems. This problem existed from 5,000 miles all the way to 64,000. I kept complaining and bringing the car back to the first place it broke down which was in georgia. I tried to take the truck to a service place in new jersey but was told I had to bring the car back to the first place where it was so called repaired! which to me was too far! after bringing the car and complaining to Land Rover corporate no one would help me and the transmission went on the car and the radiator which I was forced to pay for both even though I was still under warranty and the problem was never fixed for the whole time I had the vehicle! this created a hardship for me and it cost me over $15,000 which I paid and when I returned the vehicle I am now being sued for over $12,000 dollars which sounds crazy to me and the service manager who I complained about was later fired for not honoring warranties and being disrespectful! please help me! after researching this site I see that this is a on going problem with Range Rover!.
I purchased a 2000 Range Rover from bear valley rovers in atlanta and the vehicle was/is in pristine shape . When I purchased it, it had 43,000 miles with 5,000 miles remaining on the warranty. At 53,000 the transmission went bad and had to be replaced. This is not normal that a transmission would only last 53,000 miles and the vehicle has never been off-road a day in its life.
I was told my my Land Rover dealer that they have had a rash of incidents where a driver backed up his vehicle, didn't come to a complete stop, and broke the transmission. I am writing this becausei felt it imperative you be advised of a situation that involves a product defect that directly impacts the safety of passengers in Land Rover products. Is because.
There was a funny odor. I pulled into the drive way, got out of the car and noticed the fire underneath the car towards the front end. There was a recall for a trans vent tube modification, which was supposedly fixed on my car.
