Driving down the interstate and out of the blue my sunroof exploded. It sounded like a gunshot and I was driving 80mph. I almost ran into another driver due to glass falling on me.

Lexus recall 2010-2015 models because pain is peaking. My car is a 2913 Es 350 and the paint is pealing but Lexus do not want to fix it. It is the same problem as the recall Lexus because paint is peaking. What can I do or what can you do.

We purchased this vehicle in mid 2018. In October of 2018 Lexus issued a customer support process zlz which covered our vehicle for problems with the dashboard. At that time, we had no deterioration of our dashboard so we did not respond. The Lexus program expired in 2021. In the last two years, our dashboard has deteriorated quite substantially becoming sticky and more importantly, becoming very reflective. This condition is a serious safety issue for day and night driving as light reflects up on the windshield and obscures vision out of the windshield. We took the vehicle to Lexus san diego in August of 2024 and they declined to address the repair as a defect and offered to replace the dashboard for approximately $3000. At that time I called the Lexus corporate dept and they said that it could fall under the support program again if they re-opened the program. The representative did not offer any timeline for that happening. I sent correspondence to Lexus corporate in oct of 2024 and finally heard back on 11/08/2024 that they would only offer a customer paid fix of approximately $2200. 00. The dashboard is definitely defective (soon to be inoperable) and creates a very significant safety problem. I do not understand or agree with Lexus not addressing it properly.

Dear NHTSA vehicle safety team, I am submitting a safety complaint regarding my 2010 Lexus Es350 (VIN: [xxx] ) concerning a dashboard melting issue. Several years ago, Lexus issued a recall for melting dashboards, including my vehicle. At that time, I did not request a replacement. However, after the recall period ended, my dashboard began to melt. The material becomes sticky, shiny, and unsafe under sunlight. During daytime driving, the melted dashboard reflects sunlight onto the windshield, making it difficult and dangerous to see the road clearly. I have contacted my local Lexus dealer and Lexus corporate headquarters, but both refused assistance, citing the expired recall period. Despite this, the defect continues to exist and presents a serious safety concern. I request that NHTSA record this issue as a safety defect and consider it for further investigation. Attached are photos of my dashboard for reference. Thank you for your attention to this matter. Sincerely, [xxx] [xxx] [xxx] [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
I am having a problem with my side view mirrors. They keep poppingloose, swinging freely on it's base. One time the mirror popped loose while I was driving. Could not see traffic in the right lane. Could cause an accident.
Accident description: traveling south on I-95 just past the 895 split. I was traveling in the middle lane with a speed of 60-65 mph. The car started to drift left quickly. There was no vibration warning through the steering wheel indicating lane departure. I was rapidly moving toward the concrete base of the moravia road overpass. The steering was tight. I attempt to brake and steer right but nothing seemed to work. The autobrake was on but did not apply and I hit the concrete base of the wall on the left front corner of the Lexus. I did several 360's and landed against the jersey wall in reverse direction of the traffic. The air bags did not deploy. The car would not start. I was able to put my window up/down and the door did open. I remained in place with my seat belt still on until office smith arrived. He recorded the incident. In summary, I believe the low precure fuel pump stopped operating causing the engine to stall at high speed and was thus the source of the crash.
It isn't bad enough that Toyota corp sold me a dashboard on my 2007 Lexus Es350 that melts in the sunlight, but as it melts it leaves a dangerous shiny residue that impairs my ability to drive safely, Especially at night. This needs to be recalled.

2007 Lexus Es350 dashboard melting produces chemical fumes and shiny sticky dasboard reflecting sunlight and night headlights blinding driver visibility. Fumes causing health issue in all car passenger breathing. Issues.
Location: where front driver side door attaches to body of vehicle. The upper hinge from the door that attaches to the body, is detaching from the body of the car. The material that the door attaches to does not appear to be metal, it appears to be some sort of fiberglass. I will be shocked if you do not have any other owners complaining. If you have not, the only reason I can guess is that other owners have not looked at this area where the door attaches to the body. Mine is still working, but it is just a matter of time before it becomes a major problem. The door has already shifted somewhat where the door does not shut like it should. This problem was diagnosed when the vehicle was stationary.
Issue number one the dashboard the steering wheel and the clutch handle for automatic or manual melts it gets extremely hot and slippery it burns no matter if you cover your car or anything it melts and the glare from it is very dangerous when the sun hits the windshield while driving it makes it look like a mirror form I'm not the only one who complains about this issue because why does the dashboard melts and create a dangerous flare with glare excuse the heating and cooling seats I believe also I'm not sure if it's causing condensation because it's connected to the ac which is also an issue no matter how much you get it fixed like I'm not sure if the blend door actuator gets stuck but a lot of people complain about that too because I'm not the only one with that issue 3 the gas pedal gets stuck no matter how many treatments and maintenance and services you get done with your car that's still dangerous because I was driving one day on the highway and my pedal got stuck while driving I keep my car in tip top shape have evidence and all. The light fixtures also is an issue I'm not sure if they're supposed to go down no matter how many lights and replacements you do they still become dim which is dangerous at night while driving in the woods or on dark paths 4 the fuel system they tell to use premium gas which is 91 but then the dealers take to use 87 which causes a stalling on the I believe transmission which is also another faulty issue cuz no matter how many times you replace everything is still very faulty I ran into a lot of people and friends who have the same issue and again I'm a person who take care of my car and 5 last but not least all the windows and sunroof keep opening which I didn't know was that supposed to be a feature.
Dashboard on 2009 Lexus Es 350 has begun to melt and on sunny days the reflection on the windshield poses a safety hazard and reduces visibility. In addition the melting plastic is very sticky and could be hazardous for driver not to mention the poison exposure to its vapors. There was a recall for this problem on 2007 and 2008 models. The 2009 is identical in design and Lexus should fix this. I contacted them and they offered to pay a small portion of the $1700 repair costs.

The dashboard is melting which results in the noxious chemical smell and adhesive compound that is sticky to the touch.
The Lexus Es 350, was turning left onto side street within a sub division, and ran up the curb and hit a tree with the right front side of the vehicle. Significant damage done to the car, and so much damaged that the car has been totaled by insurance company. Driver unsure if vehicle accelerated on its own or just lost control. The greater issue or concern was not what caused the accident, but that the air bags did not deploy after the impact and the driver broke their nose and has been treated 3 times in er since crash. In speaking with repair shop, they informed me that there are 2 air bag sensors at the front of the car, and both are near the headlights. He was surprised that given the damage and impact of the collision (to right front of car by headlight, pictures attached), that the air bags did not deploy.
Was in car crash where the air bags should have been ejected and they did not!.
On the night of August 20, 2019, at 9:45, I parked my Lexus Es 300 and went inside the local acme. Acme is approx miles from home. I entered the store and heard over the intercom all shoppers had 12 min before closing. I quickly shopped, and upon exiting the store, my car had a significant fire, and the fire company that was across the street had to respond and put it out. My car had no power, and it mysteriously caught fire. I was given the directive to have it towed immediately by the police and fire CO who was on the scene. I quickly grabbed any salvageable personals and had to get a ride home by the police officer. The following day August 21, 2019, aaa towed the vehicle to my home. I had to attach the battery cable to have power for windows and locks along with the trunk. I gathered all my belongings and removed the wire. I called the fire marshall for a report, and he said he couldn't give me a report. It was compromised by being towed. Compromised for towing when I was told or rather demanded to remove the vehicle of the property immediately. I googled the words Lexus and fire and noticed by a few posts my issue was not an isolated incident. Therefore, I contacted Lexus, who had me tow my vehicle to the local dealer. The car sat and is still sitting for almost three weeks before an inspector looked at it on September 10. 2019. I went to check the only car after and took a video of what I saw. I waited the 30 days for a reply if they'd assume responsibility. I got my letter on the 31st day and they can not identify how the fire started and assume no liability. How does a car mysteriously catch fire parked? because this issue isn't isolated, is there any recourse action against Lexus for damages? I have videos and photos of the damage after the fire and after the inspection.

I have Lexus Es350. Its expensive luxury car. But its dashboard is melting on the top now. Very uncommon behavior of this kind of car. This wouldn't happened even if in cheap car. I went to dealership and they confirm that it is melting. It's a dashboard, one of the main part of the car. Issue is in the sun, melted part is reflecting on the windshield and its very bright. It becomes safety issue to drive this car in the sun. It gives headache and not proper visibility to drive. Dealership refused to fix this issue as this car is more than 10 years old. This kind of issue should not happened in the car like Lexus. Please see attached pictures, it gives some idea like how it looks like in windshield while driving. Picture do not cover all reflections though.
Tl-the contact owns a 2007 Lexus Es350. The dash board is soft, deteriorating and was melting, the tpms warning indicator light was illuminated. The contact called the local dealer herrin-gear 685 high st, jackson, ms 39202 (601) 354-4900 but was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was contacted but did not assist. The failure mileage was 200,000. Ap.
My dashboard is melting and is sticking to touch and depresses when touched and not safe. I called Lexus and I was told it's beyond the recall window and I have to pay out of pocket and I cannot afford it. Apparently there was a recall back in 2016 but I bought my car 12/2017 so I missed the window.
Inside dashboard is very sticky and Lexus told me that there was a recall on this and we were never notified.

Tl the contact owns a 2008 Lexus Es350. The contact stated that the dashboard was melted and there was a glare on the front windshield. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact called hennessy Lexus of gwinnett located at (3383 satellite blvd, duluth, GA 30096 (770) 680-1000) but was not diagnosed nor repaired. The contact was informed the warranty policy expired. The manufacturer was contacted but no further assistance was provided. The failure mileage was unknown.
The dashboard gets extremely sticky and I have notice a small hole which has now turned into a crack on the passenger side of the car. I think this happen as a result of the heat. I don't always keep my car parked under a garage.
Takata recall, my wife was involved in a frontal collision at @35mph in which her airbags did not deploy. I am concerned that since the sensors were knocked off during the impact, what could have happened to prevent the airboys from deploying? she was traveling at 35 mph into an intersection when she ran a red light and t-boned another vehicle. Fortunately the vehicle she hit was a Jeep wrangler with a steel side bumper on all sides. So there way minimal damage to the Jeep.
I accelerated from a stop light after it turned green. About 25 feet thru the light I heard the car behind me blowing their horn constantly. I looked in my rear view mirror to see what was going in. Then I thought I notice light smoke comng from my tailpipe. I applied my right turn blinker and pulled to the curve. As soon as I parked, I could see orange colored fire around the front of my car and along the side of my driver/passenger doors. I felt that me and my passenger wouldn't be able to exit the car without be burnt, but I knew we needed to get out immediately. I tried to calmly get my passenger to exit which we did mainly because she hadn't seen the flames. We were able to exit and I immediately call 911 and proceeded to clearing people from near my car. The fire dept and police arrived about 10-15 minutes later. The fire department extinguished the car then left. A police officer stayed until the tow CO arrived. The car was towed away and I was given a ride ti my residence.
I own a 2002 Lexus Es300 and am the original owner. I have enjoyed the experience of driving the car to around 175k miles in nearly 12 years. So far, I did not have any major problems with the car until recently. Last Friday, Aug 8, 2014, my wife drove the car to a friend’s place and was parked in a parallel parking area. There were 3 cars in that parking area including my car in 5 car parking area. The two parking spots behind my car were vacant. My wife was trying to back up to a spot right in front of another car which was parked there. While trying to backup, there was a sudden acceleration of the engine and hit the car right behind and that car went and hit another car that was behind that car. The impact was so much that there was significant damage to my car and another car that was right behind and minor damage to the third car. Not only the damage to one car right behind but displaced its position and direction that it was parked. The third car was pushed over to the curb and was about to hit the pedestrians that were nearby. There were eye witnesses and police were called to the accident scene and reported the incident. After the incident occurred, I was looking to see if there were any issues with sudden acceleration of the cars and any safety recalls. I did notice that there were quite a few complaints about the sudden acceleration and safety issues on 2002 Lexus Es300. I am kind of disappointed in the way the car malfunctioned and I want to know what NHTSA is doing about it and how it can help victims like me. Thanks and appreciate your response.
While driving in heavy traffic and traveling at a low speed, the car lurched forward and hit the car that was 6 feet in front of me. The sound of the engine was that of a spontaneous acceleration just like the incident we had on April 30, 2013. There was little or no damage to the car in front of me but the Lexus sustained over $10,000. Worth of damage and has subsequently been considered a total loss. The incident on April 30 consisted of our crawling forward into a parking spot, suddenly the car spontaneously accelerated, went over the cement parking barrier and hit a car approximately 5 feet away. Lexus looked at the black box after the 4/30 accident and determined that the car was safe to drive.

I was reversing and trying to turn when my car Lexus Es 300 suddenly picked up high speed acceleration by it self and went forward and hit a fence in front. The vehicle picked up unintentional high speed (full throttle). It was beyond my control. My body went forward and backward violently. For few days I have experienced muscle stiffness, pain and poor night sleep.

I was in stop and go traffic. Bumper to bumper. The car in front moved forward and I pressed the gas pedal 2 seconds and went back to the brake. The engine started to rev up out of control. I pressed on the brake as hard as possible and managed to slow the car but not stop it. I put it in park but the engine continued to roar. It finally went back to normal. Lexus checked the car but said they found nothing wrong. This model had been recalled for the same problem. Clearly the car may be dangerous. Lexus denies all responsibility. The inspector left a thumb drive in the car but I can't read it. I would be glad to send it to you.
While we driving down the turnpike heading into philadelphia, my wife tried to roll down her windows and then back up. As she did, the glass came off its track and almost popped out of the door. We were going about 70 mph. At this speed, that window may have come off and flown off our car, hitting another car. This would have been potentially fatal. The only reason it did not fly off, was my wife grabbed on to it while I pulled over immediately.
Tl- the contact owns a 2007 Lexus Es. The contact stated that while parked the dash board became extremely hot and caused a glare on the windshield obstructing her visibility. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 40,000. Da.
Bought my car in 2008, since 2012 my dashboards is very sticking because is melting, by that time my guarantee was active because I paid extra to extend it. For the first time in 2012 I call the office of Lexus to inform the problem, my customer service representative told me to bring the car in to check the problem and to make the appointment to leave the car, I thought that it was included on the guarantee, and he told ne no, he told ne that maybe the Lexus would help me to lower the price, but that I had to pay, and I said no thank you I don't have the money. After that the dashboard got worst, and I call back on April 2013 to talk to my customer service representative, and he was transferred to another department, at that point I told the representative the problem, and it got worst to the point that is very difficult to drive when is sunny, he told me that my guarantee it was expired and that I had to pay to fix it. But I don't think is fair that after I paid $40,000. 00 for my car I have to paid to fix it, when it should be a recall for the Lexus with this problem.
At approximately 7:23 pm on July 8, 2012, while parking in the parking lot of our local church, the vehicle suddenly accelerated on its own. The car was almost at a complete stop, when this sudden uncontrolled acceleration occurred. At that time lots of people were exiting the church and walking towards the parking lot to get into their cars, while others were inside and outside their vehicles waiting for the next service to start. I was terrified since as hard as I pushed the brake pedal, my car continued accelerating ; it ran over the concrete parking bump, hit an electrical installation, and came to a complete stop when it hit a parked SUV on the opposite side of the parking lot. The front section of my car was completely destroyed to the point where it was not drivable. I towed the vehicle to my house and later to the Lexus dealership for an inspection. An inspector from Lexus corporation inspected it on July 17, 2012. He called me the same day to let me know that the inspection was completed, however he would not disclose any inspection results, due to Lexus policy. I am still awaiting a formal response from Lexus.
