The contact owns a 2003 Lexus Es300. While driving at an unknown speed, smoke was noticed coming from the engine compartment. The contact managed to pull the vehicle over as it was stalling. The contact exited the vehicle, lifted the hood, and noticed flames coming from the battery. The contact called the fire department who extinguished the fire. The contact mentioned that the fire department cut the battery cord and informed the contact that the vehicle was unsafe to drive. The vehicle was towed to the contact's residence. The dealer and manufacturer were not notified of the failure. An independent mechanic diagnosed that the battery needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 156,000.

: the contact stated that the brakes squeeked right after the vehicle was purchased. The dealer replaced the rotors in April of 2006 however there was no brake failure. The brake light did illuminated. Although the vehicle was driven on normal road conditions, the dealer determined that the brakes had been worn by 70% within one year. The vehicle also had realignment work performed. There was also a problem with the electrical system. The vehicle has been through 2 batteries including the one that the vehicle was purchased with. The dome light infrequenlty works even though the bulb and fuse have been changed. There was also some type of a fuel problem that combined with the electrical problem caused the vehicle to be towed 6 times within 5000 miles.

While driving at any speed, the vehicle stalled. The driver was able to maintain control of the vehicle and pulled over and noticed that fluid was leaking from underneath the vehicle. Upon stopping, and when consumer removed foot from the gas pedal vehicle surged forward before the brake pedal was depressed. This occurred numerous times. Once, resulting in consumer's vehicle crashing into a concrete pole while pulling into a parking lot. Also, starting at 5000 miles battery had to be replaced 3 times because it died. This was due to an electrical short.

Dangerous. Could not turn off car except to disconnect negative terminal on battery. Very dangerous. Took almost 10 minutes to turn off car. Removing key did nothing. This is a hazard to all. Could have been disastrous. Lexus was notified.
