On March 26, 2010 my husband and I were stopped at a traffic signal, (with my foot on the brake as you would expect), when the car suddenly accelerated at full throttle. In the brief but terrifying moments that the car was out of control I unfortunately collided with another vehicle as I threw the gear selector into neutral.

I have a 1998 Lexus Es300. In November 2003, my car was serviced under Lexus' spa program due to engine oil gelling/sludge. Now, 3 years later, the engine seized. This is a direct and consequential result of driving the car for 76k miles with a gelling issue. The damage had been done and this was a latent defect. We took the car to the Lexus dealer and had it serviced three weeks ago, spent $700 on it, drove it off the lot and 20 minutes later the engine seized. They now want $5k to put a used engine in it with 130k miles on it. Lexus corporation was useless and they basically said no matter if the seize was caused by the gelling or not, because the car had so many miles on it they were not willing to "assist". Beware of Lexus of seattle - they are crooks!.

Also, consumer spoke to the Lexus manufacturer but did not receive any support. He felt that he was being ripped off.

Intermittently when pulling from a stop or turning a corner from a stop, the vehicle would hesitate for several seconds before accelerating. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who informed the consumer that the hesitation was normal. This hesitation has happened more than three times since ownership of the vehicle. The manufacturer is aware of the problem.
The vehicle had problems picking up speed, when the accelerator was pressed the vehicle did not respond, it sounded as though something was ticking inside the vehicle. The consumer contacted the Lexus manufacture and was told they were aware of the problem which was called " the hazard computer module control" but did not know how to repair it.
I recently purchased a 2002 Lexus ES 300 and not much to complain about the inside etc. The acceleration and throttle though are a major problem. I almost got into a car accident getting onto 95 trying to pass a semi because the accelerator " pauses" when I step on the gas pedal. After the pause it starts to accelerate so I barely made it without hitting the semi. This really concerns me and want Lexus to do something about it. Its just plain unsafe.
