2023 Lexus ES 350. Consumer writes in regard to defective blind spot monitoring system.
Effective in 2022 all cellular carriers are upgrading to 5g. With this transition a majority of vehicles will no longer be able to use their vehicles emergency crash response systems. In my 2016 Lexus Es350 the emergency sos system utilizes 3g cellular service which will be turned off in 2022 making an automated call in the event of a crash impossible. The dot needs to block this measure as owners of vehicles should not be forced to purchase a newer vehicle simply for emergency services.

At 1 p. M. July 5, 2021, I was driving on the expressway on a short trip from home (about 5 miles). Temperature outside was 83 degrees, inside car 70 degrees. No overpasses, nearby cars, or debris noted from roadway. We heard a loud explosion. Seeing no other vehicles, feeling nothing wrong with the tires, or broken mirrors, I cracked open the moon roof slightly and noticed shattered glass. Fortunately, we had the interior moon roof flap of the vehicle closed which prevented the shards from falling on us. There was no warning that this would happen. As it is a holiday, I am awaiting a response from both the insurance company and the dealership. You will note the "upward" explosion that would not be typical of an object coming from the road. We noted nothing from the road or sky (partly cloudy day).
I was driving down the highway in va and I heard a loud explosion and I later found out the sunroof exploded on its own no cars around, no over pass it just exploded into little pieces.

Sudden unintended acceleration with braking problems. Three episodes. The first episode was a complaint to the dealer with documentation in the car's service record. The second of which was worked-up for one week by the dealer with no answers. The third episode occurred going down a parking ramp and resulted in loss of control of the car and injuries to both fenders. The car's "black box" was not activated during the last episode. The car accelerated right after it had begun moving forward. During the other episodes, the acceleration occurred right after being started. During the third and most serious episode, the car was moving down the car ramp in a parking garage, from the eighth floor to the sixth floor. After starting down the ramp, the car accelerated and could not be stopped by braking, shifting to neutral and park or by pressing the off button switch. When the sixth floor was reached, the car was driven down one of the exit lanes where finally it was able to be stopped by usual braking maneuvers. In the "black box" study, there was no record of any abnormal activity, either acceleration or braking. Police were notified and essentially documented the events but made no other comments. During the third episode, the car was moving at a rapid rate of speed, probably at about 50 miles per hour but this cannot be documented. Repair of the vehicle cost about $6000.
On October 7 at approximately 5 am I was driving on interstate 285 eastbound in atlanta georgia. I was driving my 2016 Lexus ES 350. I was traveling at a speed of approximately 75 miles an hour. All of a sudden I heard what sounded like a gunshot. The next thing I knew I heard glass rattling around on my roof. I pulled over and noticed that my sunroof had shattered into 1 million pieces.
Forward collision warning system has failed and is inoperable. There is a recall out there, however my VIN# isn't on the list. Lexus will not fix it.
On Feb. 25, 2020 at approximately 7 am I was driving along a local route in hicksville, NY in my 2016 Lexus ES 350 traveling approx. 40 mph. All of a sudden I heard what sounded like a gunshot. The next thing I knew I heard glass rattling around on my roof. I pulled over and noticed that my sunroof (panoramic roof) had shattered into 1 thousand pieces.
I was at a stoplight and there were a couple vehicles in front of me. The light was red. I was a car length and a half away from the vehicle directly in front of me. As soon as the light turned green, I saw the vehicles in front of the vehicle directly in front of me proceed to move forward, and the driver in front of me took his foot off of his brakes, so I thought he was moving forward as well. So then I decided to accelerate to about 5-10 mph. By the time I realized the vehicle in front of me wasn't moving forward, my car hit his trail-hitch" (not his back bumper) and the front of my car was damaged, but I could drive it from the scene of the accident. The brake assist of my 2018 Lexus Es350 did not engage. I think the brake assist function on my vehicle was faulty and it should've been recalled and fixed, as it would've stopped me from getting into a car accident in the first place had it engaged and worked properly.

I recently just found out that my dashboard melt, and sticky. If I'm driving in the sun , the reflection of the sun caused the blindspot that I could not see. Also, the stickiness is causing the smell and it's not healthy.
Trunk release button that allows trunk to be opened melted. Not sure what caused the rubber button to melt and render the release of the trunk inoperable. Car was never subjected to chemicals or undue heat. Something caused the button to melt after a period of time. Possible fire hazard if not replaced? the car is kept year round in new jersey and is subject to seasonal changes but not in a year round hot climate such as the southern states. The service manager refused to help with the replacement cost. The mechanic there who looked at it said he sees it all the time.
Sunroof spontaneously shattered while I was driving down the road.
Dashboard melting.
Greetings, this message is being sent on the behalf of cheryl (xxxx) & raymond (xxxx) (xxxxx) 2015 Lexus gs350 (xxxxx) issue: front passenger side seat: seat heater/warmer ignited without being turned on and burned through the leather leaving a black burnt mark. While in motion on highway. I'm concerned that the seat can overheat and cause a fire. This is listed in vehicle history report. Redacted to protect personally identifiable information pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
Happened in a residential neighborhood. In motion to make a turn around from the main street into a side street. I wanted to head back the direction from where I had just been. I was moving very slowly because of the small turning radius. I was just turning into the very opening of the side street. Upon curving into the "u" of my turn the car fiercely propelled forward. It felt like it was attempting a "0 to 60" launch. I looked at my foot in disbelief that I may have been on the gas pedal . No. . . My foot was on the brake. My car crashed into a large rock/boulder residential landscape that stopped it. I shut my engine off. Passenger side rear wheel was off the ground. Front right was elevated on top of rocks. I was fine. Very shaken and in disbelief of the rapid launch and situation. Rapid car had to be towed. Exterior damage. Underside damage as well.

The dasboard is melting severely which causes a bright glare day and night, causing visibility and safety concerns. There is also a very obnoxious smell to it. I bought this car used and didn't notice the issue at the time. Lexus should just own up to it and replace the dash no matter how old the car is since it is a safety hazard to me and others on the road. I personally try not to drive during the daytime when its the worst but thats not always feasible.

Dashboard on 2009 Lexus ES 350 has begun to melt and on sunny days the reflection on the windshield poses a safety hazard and reduces visibility. There was a recall for this problem on 2007 and 2008 models. The 2009 is identical in design and Lexus should fix this. I contacted them and they offered to pay a small portion of the $1700 repair costs.

Dash of a 2007 Lexus Es350 is melting in sun. Dash is sticky and shines. Shine bothers my vision . Dangerous driving the car.
During the month of June, 2018 my dashboard top melted and released an obnoxious smell. Now when driving facing the sun there is a glare on the windshield that prohibits a clear view while driving creating various safety problems. To overcome this hazard the driver has to put on sun glasses and if driving after sunset the glare from street lights, traffic signals, etc. , creates many problems by distorting the view thru the windshield. And now,the defective dashboard cannot be repaired other than replacing it with a new one.
The top of the dash is sticky, almost like it's melting, causing a shiny glare to reflect off the bash and windshield making it difficult to see, especially in direct sunlight. Ive owned the car since 2010 and it's steadily worsened overtime. It became an immediate safety concern back in March as the weather became warmer.
Steering: linkages: tie rod assembly. While driving the vehicle the front right passenger side shakes as if something's loose while driving.
Moon roof exploded while driving at 60 mph--glass flew all over the road--it could have impacted oncoming traffic. I didn't see anything that might have hit the moon roof. I was able to control the car but had to drive 45 miles home at 35 mph as wind kept blowing back the interior cover.
I was driving on interstate just outside beaumont, texas on Thursday, November 2 when I heard a loud noise similar to a gunshot or an explosion. Immediately after I heard the noise, I noticed my sunroof cover shaking and wind coming through the top of my car. I pulled the cover back just a little and noticed shattered glass. When I pulled over at the next service station, I got out and realized my sunroof was shattered. I contacted Lexus and they pretended to be surprised; however, after further research, I discovered a class action lawsuit and many other complaints regarding this same issue. I have since had the sunroof repaired, but not by Lexus. The dealership offered to repair it to the tune of $2,000. The sunroof repair company where I took my car repaired it for a fraction of that. This morning I received a phone call from Lexus corporate office stating that the damaged sunroof was due to "impact," which is not true. Of course, Lexus is not taking any responsibility for my vehicle. I suspect they will continue to keep their defective vehicles on the road until an adequate number of people have died from the defects. The general manager of Lexus of clear lake reached out to me on this past Saturday and asked that I email her, which I did. However, I never heard anything back from her.

Dashboard is melting and becoming sticky/tacky and shiny causing decreased visibility on sunny days.
Melting dashboard. Sun reflexting off making visibilty 0 very dangerous to see road. I have notified Lexus they told the repair date expired5/31/ 17, I recieved notification no notification of this repair notice. I dont know when it was mailed out but it seems owners must only gotten a 6 moths notice. I have talked to other owners who they carried there cars in for repairs and the warranty expired before they could get the repairs.
The pre-collision system does not work properly. The car rear ended the vehicle in front of it without warning and brake assist by pre-collision system as Lexus claimed. It resulted in an accident. Lexus has performed the investigation and extracted data from edr. They concluded no defect found. I still believe that the car pre-collision system did not work at all and was not able to prevent the collision as expected.
Vehicle has entire melting sticky dashboard across from driver side toward right of passenger. Please advice,.
Nav system will not take me to my home address - my development was started in 2003. My street in not available and the nav system disables me from typing the street name. Just moved to a new state and need to be able to put in 'take me home'. I have contacted the dealer (wilde Lexus, sarasota, FL) 3 times - they claimed to have ordered a new disk but I feel I am getting a run-around since the disk does not show up - have been driving the car for a little over one year - I hate it.
