Air Bag Not Deploy Problems of Lexus IS

Defective passenger occupancy sensor: my srs / airbag warning light illuminated and would not turn off, indicating that the srs system was deactivated. I had my car diagnosed by a Lexus dealership service department on 12/4/2020. Johnson Lexus advised me that the passenger side front seat pressure sensor failed and that the repair was to replace the seat for $2769. 31. The seat has not been subjected to any unusual or harsh use. Research indicates that this Is a common defect among Lexus Is models and some other Lexus and Toyota models of this generation. Many Lexus drivers report great difficulty regarding this defect and the thousands of dollars in repairs that dealerships are demanding to fix the defect. There are hundreds of complaints about this very Issue on the NHTSA database. I am very surprised there has not been a mandatory recall or a Lexus program to address this common sensor failure affecting a critical, nonoptional safety feature. I contacted Toyota of north America and received a polite call from the executive office stating that the company was sorry but would not do anything to help. Lexus Is usually excellent with its customer service, so I am very surprised at the lack of concern here. I hope it does not require deaths from air bags failing to deploy for Lexus to address this defect.

The dashboards and interior plastic panels in certain Lexus and Toyota models Is melting in high humidity areas. This can cause the passenger airbag to not properly deploy in a collision due to the dashboard degrading. I have filed a complaint with Lexus and asked for a letter stating the degradation of the dashboard will not interfere with the airbag deployment and I was declined. Lexus (Toyota) Is actively avoiding this safety Issue. I would like to speak with someone from the NHTSA about this safety Issue please.

Cpu under seat controlling car airbags has failed. Lexus will not fix the Issue. Airbags may not deploy or inflate. Lexus states its not a saftey Issue requiring their attention. Lexus stated they know aboutthe Issue and it Is happening in other vehicles. Someone Is going to get seriously injured because of this.

The contact owned a 2003 Lexus Is. The contact stated that while driving at 35 mph, another vehicle crash into the contacts vehicle head on and the air bags failed to deploy. As a result, the contact sustained head, neck and left shoulder injuries that required medical attention. A police report was filed. The vehicle was destroyed. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 130,000.

The airbag warning light came off and on 3 years or so ago when I had started the car and sometimes while driving. When I brought the car in to the dealer the warning light was off, and the dealer checked but said they could not find the code. At the time my car was still under extended warranty. Now the light has come on again just as I was driving out after the car was serviced by the same dealer. They checked the code and said I needed to replace the airbag wiring harness for $2,798. The dealer offered to pay half of the cost since I am no longer covered by the extended warranty but since this Issue causes the airbag to not deploy in case of an accident I feel that the full cost should be covered by Lexus, and a recall done for all the models affected.

The passenger side airbag warning light on my vehicle turned on. When I took my vehicle to Lexus for a recall I had them check why the light was on. They told me the air bag wiring harness needs to be replaced at a cost of $2546. They also said this Is a common Issue that Lexus Is well aware of and Issued a TSB for it in 2008 but would only cover the repair under the initial warranty period because they had not received enough complaints to make a recall. Well now 6 years after they Issued the TSB I'm sure there has to be enough complaints because a simple google search shows how many cars are affected by this problem. The biggest Issue Is the airbags will not deploy in the event of and accident until the repair Is made. I contacted Lexus corporate twice and both times they were not willing to help. I believe Lexus should cover this repair since it Is a major safety concern and Lexus Is well aware of the problem.

My Lexus 2012 Is 250 accelerated on its own, brakes did not engage after depressing them x2, and then I crashed into a truck. Air bag did not deploy. Reported to Lexus who assumed no responsibility for incident. Third party inspected car and downloaded black box. Report from Lexus stated that car was drive able and no Issues were found. Car incurred $18,000 in damages and was not drivable at the time of inspection. Witnesses at collision shop will validate such. When speaking to representatives at Lexus to report incident I was told by 2 reps on 2 occasions that this has happened to other vehicles that were the same make and model. Disturbing.

L-sb-0167-08 the srs airbag light Is on for awhile. This Is a well known defect and Issue with these vehicle. A faulty wire harness. There Is TSB but it Is only covered under warranty. I find it surprising that this Is not considered a safety recall given the potential harm and risk of the airbag not deploying due to a faulty harness.
