Air Bag Problems of Lexus IS - part 1

I had a head on collision with a light pole and the airbags did not deploy. The vehicle was inspected by aprogressive insurance claims adjuster and they claimed the vehicle a total loss. They kept the vehicle. There were no warning lights or anything. The vehicle had been taken into a north park Lexus dealership after a defective airbag recall to be serviced in 2018.

There Is a common Issue with these makes and models with the drivers side knee air bag having Issues with connecting which cause the srs light go on the dashboard. I called Lexus corporate office and local dealer and they said there was a recall but it expired in 2020. From the research I did, this was a small window and there shouldn’t have been an expiration on the recall for something that Is a safety hazard. Because of this, they are charging thousands for this Issue that has affected hundreds of thousands of vehicles.

My 2006 Lexus Is350 Is subject to NHTSA recall number 16v340, for passenger airbag replacement. According to the diections on the NHTSA website shown in the following link: https://static. Nhtsa. Gov/odi/rcl/2019/rcrit-19v741-5332. Pdf the dash pad needs to be removed to access the airbag and perform the repair. Ive contacted my 3 local Lexus dealers and was told in various ways that they do not remove the dash to accomplish the repair but instead just remove the glove compartment and associated parts to access the airbag. I wanted the dash replaced (it was cracked) when the old dash was removed to do this recall repair. Since the dealers do not actually remove the dash, I was told this was not possible. One dealer told me that for an extra $350, the service dept. Would do the repair according to the above linked instructions. I have notified lyndss tor at lyndzee. Tor@Toyota. Com as well as Toyota quality compliance quality_compliance@Toyota. Com and recieved no reply. I hope the NHTSA can enforce the above linked instructions so that the airbag replacement can be conducted in a proper and safe fasion.

My dash has cracked and melted due to a manufacturing defect. The Lexus dealers who I have contacted to perform the safety recall for the defective airbags will not replace the cracked dash at the same time. Having the passenger airbag deploy through a cracked dash Is an apparent safety Issue. Please investigate this.

Many people have have Issues with the srs warning light coming on and not going off. This Issue seems to stem from harness connection Issues that Lexus Is aware of and have acknowledged. This needs to be fixed ASAP!.

Was in a car accident and air bigs didnt go off.

Air bag light came on out of nowhere, went to take the car in for diagnosis and they stated that the Issue code was the airbag b1861 Is open in drivers side knee airbag squib circuit. Now all airbags are disabled due to circuit malfunction.

The contact's son owned a 2007 Lexus Is250. The contact stated while her son was driving 15 mph through an intersection, another speeding vehicle that did not have the right-of-way, crashed into the passenger's side of the vehicle, causing the front end of the vehicle to crash into another vehicle. The contact's son was knocked unconscious. The air bags failed to deploy. There was no warning light illuminated. The emergency services escorted the contact's son to the nearest hospital, where he passed away a few days later. The vehicle was towed and totaled. A police report was filed. The contact stated that the vehicle had previously been serviced and had passed state inspection. The local dealer was not notified of the failure. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 135,000.

My vehicle has a sticky dashboard and has a reflection to my front windshield. When it Is sunny, that reflection Is very blinding when I’m driving. My vehicle Is available for inspection if needed. I am scared for myself and my passengers when I’m driving. My vision Is 20/20 and this reflection Is very bothersome. The Issue has been confirmed by my local mechanic. I called the dealership and they also confirmed the Issue, but they were unable to assist me and recommended me to file a complaint with NHTSA. The vehicle has not been inspected by the manufacturer (I offered to do so but they did not confirm an appointment for any further assistance), police, insurance, etc. There were no warning lamps, or any notices for this Issue.

My dashboard Is melting due to a manufacturing defect. The glare from my dashboard makes driving difficult as the glare can blind you. The chemical smell from the melting Is horrible. I have placed a dash cover on which has helped but if I am in an accident this dash cover will impede the correct deployment of my airbag on the passenger side. Also the inside door panels are melting and are becoming a "putty" like substance. Everything sticks to it. Including my clothes. While driving I have had to jerk my arm from the rest on the door trim to remove it. This can cause my vehicle to possibly swerve off the road or into oncoming traffic. Warranty enhancement program – zld and customer support program zlz were the remedies for this Issue. But these have expired. The manufacturer will not honor this or consider this a safety / hazardous Issue and correct it now. This Is a safety Issue and needs to be addressed.

I own a Lexus 2012 Is250 and currently active duty member stationed at aviano air base, italy. I was not notified that my vehicle Is overdue on a safety recall until today when I am trying to ship the vehicle back to the us. What further actions can I do to get the recall done? can I get the vehicle waivered to get the recall accomplished when it reaches the us?.

Hello ,I am in seattle washington. I’m emailing about my Lexus Is250 2006. A few months ago I took my car to the dealership to get the passenger airbag recall done. Immediately after getting that recall fixed. My airbag light on my vehicle came on. We did not think anything of it, we thought it would come off over time. Time has gone by the light has not gone off. So today we took our vehicle to Lexus of bellevue. They told us that there was an Issue with the driver side airbag harness. Something about tension on it or it deteriorating. The dealership Is now saying that my car Is not safe. That none of the safety features airbags or seatbelts will work due to this light being on. They will not be covered because there Is no recalls for this harness. I have done much research online this Is a common well known Issue with Lexus. Now my car Is a paperweight. I do not feel safe driving my family or disabled family member in this vehicle. This part Is located under the dash and has absolutely nothing to do with how me and my husband maintain or take care of our vehicle. This Is Lexuses Issue and should be addressed and recalled. Any help in where or how to address this further. Or any help and how to take this higher would be appreciated. At this point Is my car totaled? safe to be on the road? ok to be insured? they are charging us 200, just to tell us the Issue. Not to fix it, didn’t even take the dash apart. How do they know even know what the Issue Is without taking it apart? to fix this Issue it will be a total of over 600. Help!!!.

The contact owned a 2008 Lexus Is350. The contact stated while driving approximately 15 mph, the steering wheel began to turn to the left independently and crashed into a parked vehicle. The contact’s vehicle rolled over and landed on its roof before stopping. None of the air bags deploy upon impact. A bystander assisted the contact to exit the vehicle by breaking the front passenger side window with his foot. The contact was transported to the hospital by ambulance. The contact sustained bruising on her face and body. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to the insurance company lot and deemed totaled by the insurance company. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. Prior to the failure, the vehicle was serviced for the air bags recall however, the dealer only replaced the passenger’s side air bag inflator and used masking tape for the engine hoses. The failure mileage was approximately 95,000.

A known problem in this year of Lexus Is250. The knee bag wiring harness was constructed too short (Lexus has a TSB regarding this, # l-sb-0007-19). The airbag warning light will often come on and stay on. When the light Is on the airbag system Is inoperable. Having an inoperable airbag system Is a great safety concern. A mechanic at a local shop used the scan tool and identified the airbag code as related to the wiring harness for the knee air bag. This should be a recall since it Is a known problem and it renders the vehicle unsafe due to inoperable air bags. If this Isn't an unsafe problem justifying a recall I dont know what Is. Thank you.

Unknown the airbag light continues to come on and off, also the check vsc keeps coming on. Not sure what the Issue Is. I feel unsafe and uncomfortable with this occurring!.

The dash Is shining and obstructs my view of the road.

Takata airbag has been recalled for this model. Attempts have been made to contact via instructions on recall letter from manufacturer. Was informed someone would be out to repair it and no one showed up.

Airbag light keeps going on and off. Looked up on google. A lot of people are having this Issue. I filed for a complaint before and got no response.

I received a letter about a recall after being told I will receive a call back. After a few weeks I contacted Lexus set a date of service was given a rent a car by Lexus was told for free but I paid a deposit. Lexus has refunded me my money after I pick up my car a loud noise was coming from the dash I contacted Lexus via email and scheduled a date was told that they forgot to close a lid and that what was making the noise that time they gave me a Lexus loaner not a rent a car. But it's still making that noise my car never made that noise I go in for a recall service and it feels like I should have never gone now I'm scared to drive to not break anything the noise happens when I turn the ac on ether parked or drive I have video of the noise.

Dealer, atlantic city Lexus, advises that it Is very costly to repair the air bag system as it involves miles of wires. Therefore, I don't want to drive the car.

Before the airbage recall the airbage light did not came on, now since the airbage recall was done on 7/24/20 at valley Lexus modesto CA. Now the aitbage light came on and I call the valley Lexus they told me the airbage light Is not part off the airbage recall, and they told me I have paid for dino, but I did not cause the light to came on. Since valley Lexus does not want to fix it can 2094039160.

I had a grand mal seizure while driving and accelerated very quickly when my foot locked downward on the gas and my twelve year old daughter had to grab steering wheel and turn us into a lightpole to avoid driving straight into a brick wall. Full frontal damage at an excessive speed in which the lightpole almost cut the car in half and not a single airbag deployed!! car Is a complete total loss and no airbags deployed front or back, driver or passenger. Lots of injuries.

I was rear ended by a car at a high rate of speed and pushed into the car in front of me. None of my air bags deployed.

Takata recall can not get an appointment to replace air bag at bay ridge Lexus of brooklyn. Called 5 times to schedule an appointment and customer service keeps tlling me that they will call back but never called.

I got an accident, try to save deer and fox but brake didn't work properly and dis-balanced the car and my car roll over few time and hit from front and back but no airbag deployed, and stability control didn't work.

Takata recall. I bought my car only two years ago after my first Lexus lasted me upwards of 350,000 miles. Keeping this in mind I found my 2007 Is250. I was aware after buying the car (but 2 days outside of my dealership warranty *fishy*) about the passenger air bag recall. The dashboard situation Is harsh. There Is a very chemical smell coming from my dashboard, it feels and peels off like the foam under it. It gets ripped and torn to shreds from very little friction. I have read that some people became very congested and ill from this smell. It Is very pungent. Now for my engine, this Is a big one. As I was driving, my car starts to make a loud but hallow clunking noise. For a long time I thought it was my brakes, so when I got them changed it went away, for a little. Now today as I was driving my car (which Is an automatic) completely stalled in head on traffic. Lucky me, ive driven many manual cars so I knew what to do. When I turned my car back on, it held idle at 4000 rpm. While going 20 mph it holds at 5-6000 rpm. As well as my miles per gallon/tank drop dramatically. While the car Is in idle in my driveway, it shakes like a freezing baby throwing a temper tantrum.

The wiring harness for the front passenger airbag was recalled by Lexus because it Is too short and frequently becomes disconnected which disables the front passenger airbag and cause the air bag light to turn on on the instrument panel. Lexus sent a letter informing me of the recall, but it was sent to my parents house and I did not receive it in time. After finding the recall letter, the pandemic also prevented me from making it to the dealership in time. The letter they sent me also had no markings to indicate it was a recall or that the information inside was important in any way so the letter was easily ignored. I spoke with a Lexus dealership and Lexus corporate and they both refused to perform the safety repair because I was about 2 to 3 months past their deadline (June 2020?). As a result, my front passenger air bag Is inoperable and any front riding passenger in my vehicle Is at a greatly increased safety risk in the event of a serious crash. Lexus admitted the problem with their wiring harness and instituted a recall, so I don't think it Is fair for them to potentially sacrifice the lives and the safety of my front riding passengers because of a superficial deadline. I would appreciate any help you could provide in convincing Lexus to honor their safety recall for my vehicle. Thank you.

The top convertible motor got broken about two years after I bought it so I went back to the dealership and luckily it was under warranty so they replace it but now the one they put on that time now it's broken again and they want to charge me to get fixed.

The cover over the front passenger Is detached and hanging open. This happened some time following a recall repair. I am concerned that something Is wrong. Both front wheel ball joints failed and I was told that this was a dangerous situation. I had them replaced as I was traveling and not able to go to a Lexus dealer.

The ars light comes on and will not go off, was advised that Lexus no longer makes this part so I can not get it fixed this was a part of a previous campaign recall but I am still having the Issue.

Takata recall - my car Is supposedly affected by the recall, but the recall will not actually show up in the system- it sounds like it only happens in 2019 - which Is greater than 6 years after the car was put in service. I am concerned about the safety of my passengers and loss of value to the car. Additionally, the car Is currently in PA but will be moving to warmer weather climate and this will cause the degradation to happen more rapidly. Lexus reports there are no Issues, which Is not true according to their own website.

Hello. I have this 2007 Lexus Is250 that the dashboard and all 4 door panels are tearing apart, braking, melting, but worse for my safety and my wife that we both drive the car, and we feel that the front passenger airbag going to come apart (not safe)because looks like te whole piece will came out of the dashboard. I know Lexus said that they replace some but mine wasn't called and the problem Is totally visible there. Need help please.
