Air Bag Light On Problems of Lexus IS250

Dash airbag light randomly turned on. Car was parked. As soon as car was turned on the light lit up. Light was not on day before. Took to local Lexus dealership and had code scanned. Dealership informed me that my car needs a new dash harness and repair would cost +$3,000 plus tax for part and labor which is half of what the car costs. Also told me that when the light is on none of my airbags will deploy in the event of a collision which makes me worried to drive the car, especially this time of year. Looked up the issue online and saw it is a common issue with these cars, but there is no type of recall for the issue which is unusual for something that is common and puts lives at risk.

2008 Lexus is 250. Consumer writes in regard to airbag recall and airbag light remaining on.

There has been an ongoing problem with these cars with the air bag wiring harness. Many cars have had this problem including my car. The wiring harness gets disconnected from the air bag itself and disconnects puts on the air bag light. Taking it to the local dealer I was told that it would be $2,500 out of pocket. Looking through the forums many people have had this problem and it is a very normal problem with these cars.

Takata recall. My light airbag light is turned on and will not go away from dashboard. The door paneling is falling apart just by normal use.

Takata recall. The car has been sent to check since last year for instability when driven and the air bag light on. Dealer told that a code b1861 showed, system was resettled by dealer and the code didn't duplicate for diagnostic. I was never informed that there was a dangerous problem with the air bags. Air bags were not changed (5/21/2016). Car was sent to dealer a couple of times for electrical problem caused when the front of the car was updated to 2012 front. Lights stopped working and one of the fog lights broke (exploded). The dealer doing the job sent the car to the Lexus dealer again. Supposedly, they fixed the electrical problem. My car continued with problems of the dash getting melted. They changed it finally, but it was happening again this year. I took the car to the dealer to fix that and they told me that it had a recall for the air bags. I said to the job since they were working with the doors and dash already. The light of air bags continue to be on after they work with the car. The dealer said the code b1861 came out again, but they insist to charge me 2, 900. 00 dollars for the job arguing that even though the car presents the same code again, what is damaged has nothing to do with the air bag and it is the wiring of the electric panel. I am concern and my car had no problems with lights on the dash about air bags before the service of the car was done (5/31/2017). The car was running well.

After having the car I started getting the feel as if the car wanted to cut off each time I came to a stop. There was vibration with in the motor as it seemed. I contacted the dealership and they advise there was a issue with my model with the motor system with the vibration. They fixed the issue so I thought but as of today there is still vibrations at time when I come to a complete stop. Later on I received a recall on the dashboard and door panels. I later received another recall for my airbags, now my airbag light keeps coming on and I'm having to take the car back and forth to the dealership. These items has happen on number of occasions.

A electrical short on a airbag wiring harness leads to airbag light on. The harness is short in length which over time shorts out leading to complete airbag failure.

After taking the car in for service and inspection the airbag light came on and stays on. I took to park place Lexus grapevine for the takata recall replacement. I told the service person about the light and they told me $100 dollars to diagnose. They called me and told me it is the wire harness which causes the airbag not to function and they tell me it will cost $3300 dollars for a wire harness. I see this is a known issue with a technical service bulletin issued so I do not understand. I have taken very good care of my car which has 88k miles and I a m very upset they want to charge me thousands for a manufacturing issue they have known about.

Airbag indicator on dash randomly comes on then goes off. This has been happening since 2009. The cause is a defective wiring harness from the manufacturer effecting 2006 to 2008 vehicles, which when in a failed state disables the airbag system entirely.

My car is a 2008 with only 61k miles on it. The airbag light came on and I took it into the dealer. They said there was an issue with a wiring "squib" and my entire airbag system was shut down. If I had gotten into an accident, not one airbag would have deployed. The dealer said to fix it will mean replacing the entire wiring harness at a cost of $2500. Per the dealer, this is nothing that happened over time or through wear and tear. Also, the dealer said by replacing the entire wiring harness, I was replacing items that were not malfunctioning as this was the direction per Lexus. I contacted Lexus and they said they will not cover anything. It was very alarming to hear that while the airbag light was on, I was driving around without airbags. The dealer was so concerned that after the initial diagnostic test, he strongly recommended that I service it now and not drive it off the lot due to safety reasons.

The red airbag light is permanently on on the dashboard that indicates the passenger airbag is off. This is a huge safety issue! although Lexus has realized this is an issue, they are taking advantage of their design flaws and charging an exorbitant price to fix the problem. This should be considered a recall since apparently this issue is widespread amongst all of these models especially after the warranty has expired.

I drove my car to work with no abnormal lights on the dash. After working 7 hours I returned to my car and started it after a few seconds I looked up to notice the airbag light was illuminated. I turned the car off waited a few seconds and started it again and the light is still on. I have read that this is a common issue with the airbag wiring harness and can cost up to $3500 to repair.

I noticed my airbag light was on while driving. Restarting the car seemed to solve the issue at first, days went by and I never saw the light again. Few days later light was on again. I had to restart the car 4 times before it went off. So I took it to the dealer and asked to have a look at it. They told me that the wire harness was bad and they are aware of this issue is Lexus is models. They have a TSB l-sb-0167-08 assigned to this. The solution to fix this is to replace the whole harness which will cost upwards of $3500 and apparently this is caused due to the restraint on the harness and it automatically disables the deployment of the airbags. This is a major safety issue which should be addressed by Lexus corporate and a safety recall should be applicable to this hazard. This is not regular wear and tear and requires immediate attention to all Lexus is model vehicle owners.

Vehicle (2006 Lexus Is250 w. 62,000 miles) with an illuminated airbag light due to a faulty wiring harness. This is a known problem that Lexus acknowledges but refuse to fix without charging (out of warranty) owners over $3,500. There is even a technical service bulletin ("TSB") issued for this problem, the TSB number is l-sb-0167-08. This is an outrageous expense and a recall should have been issued. This directly compromises the safety of the drive, passengers and other parties in the even of an accident.

The contact owns a 2006 Lexus is 250. The contact stated that the air bag light illuminated on the instrument panel. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where the technician diagnosed that the air bag sensor needed to be replaced on the driver's side. No repairs were made to the vehicle. The manufacture was made aware of the failure. The failure and current mileage was 75,000. Updated 06/30/14 MA the consumer stated the manufacturer refused to assist with any repairs because there was previous assistance with an unrelated defect with the navigation and due to the mileage. Air bag light is on and does not go off. . . At the time of this message, the car has 51000 miles. Dealer said that the problem is in design of the harness and wants $3500 to fix it. It is 10% of what I paid for the car and Toyota has to fix this issue because it affects air bag deployment in case of emergency.

The srs air bag light came on indicating a problem with the vehicle air bags. I found the TSB ( l-sb-0167-08) myself on the internet and I took vehicle into local dealership the next day. The diagnostic pulled code b1861- open circuit in the knee airbag on driver side squib circuit which is the exact code for the TSB. The recommendation is to remove and replace the instrument panel harness. At a cost of $2600. The fix falls under the restraint system warranty of 72 months or 70,000 miles whichever comes first. My vehicle is well under the mileage but it out of warranty by time (10 months). I called Lexus corporate and they are only willing to cover half the part cost. The service manager stated that with the light on the entire srs system is completely disabled; in the event of a crash, no air bags or seat belt pre-tensioners will activate. But he said it is safe to drive. How is it safe to drive a vehicle with no safety system? the problem is a wiring harness was designed too short so it puts tension on it causing the harness to break tripping the light (manufacturing defect). Lexus redesigned the harness and gave it the same part number as the original. From what I've found on the internet its a common complaint for all 2006-2008 Lexus is 250 and 350 models.

Note: they confirmed it was not on upon initial inspection. I never left the lot and was put in another car. The dealer determined that there was a short in the airbag wiring harness, and they claimed they did not do it. They directed me to Lexus corporate. Upon inspection and my own investigation, I determined that Lexus was aware of the airbags not working in 2008 when a Lexus service information bulletin was issued on 12/11/2008 (l-sb-0167-08) for the supplemental restraint systems stating that this was a problem in the 2006 - 2008 Is250 and is350, and the issue was poor wiring insulation that would come unraveled under the dash. "r&r instrument panel wire harness" the exposed wire would then ground out on the frame, and the airbags and seat belts would be inoperable in the event of a collision. "some 2006-2008 my Is250/350 vehicles may exhibit a srs light "on" condition with dtc b1861," Lexus did not issue a recall, as they claim they did not have enough customer complaints, and covered it under the Lexus restraint system warranty for 72 months or 70,000 miles, and only if brought to their attention by the owner of the car. "warranty application is limited to correction of a problem based upon a customer's specific complaint" as this was not made public, we had no idea this was a safety issue and obvious defect. My car is now outside this warranty period, and Lexus wants us to pay 1/2 of the $3,000 repair order for a known safety and defect issue.
