As inspected by Lexus dealership in woodland hills CA, my car has airbag light on/off intermittently. Error code b1861 was found that is tied to knee airbag on the driver side. There is a problem with the squib circuit in the instrument cluster I believe. Car has around 99k miles but this safety concern is serious. This airbag is something that never gets used unless you're in an accident. I've never been in one. It is just bad workmanship on Lexus to install such a wiring harness and squib circuit that'll go bad before 100,000 miles. As a customer this is not something that is visible to me nor something I would attempt to touch. It is hidden behind the instrument cluster and dashboard. Dealership quoted $3000+ to fix something that wasn't caused due to customer negligence. It is just bad workmanship from Lexus. There is a great risk involved with driving Lexus Is250's considering this light could turn on anytime and if one gets into an accident, then airbag would not deploy resulting in a possible casualty or serious injuries. This should be a recall on all Lexus affected by this. Customer shouldn't be responsible for these workmanship problems.

Tl-takata recall. The contact owns a 2006 Lexus Is250. The contact stated that her air bags warning light came on and she scheduled the repair that was done at the dealer Lexus of albuquerque new mexico 4821 pan american fwy, albuquerque, nm 87109 (505) 341-1600. The NHTSA recall number:was 16v-340000 (air bags). The dealer stated that the warning light had nothing to do with the takata recall. The issue was with the wiring harness to the air bag sensor and was a separate issue from the air recall repair the vehicle was taken in for. This issue would cost the contact approximately $3000 to repair since the air bags could possibly not deploy in an accident. The manufacturer was contacted and a case number was assigned to the contact (case #1808280653) the contact was promised a call back within 24 hours from a case manager. The failure mileage was 176,000. Tf.

Takata recall: the recall should most definitely included the airbag wiring harness, I had no issues with my airbag light until I place my car back in the shop to get the recall a day later the airbag light came on and will not go out. I took it back to Lexus and they notified me that the it had nothing to do with the part they just replaced. However it was not on prior too. The are getting a diagnostic myself I was informed that the wiring harness was bad and my airbags would not deploy, in an accident. This a major safety concern, and a well known issue to happen to the Lexus is 250, this is a direct link with the takata recall and something that should be cover by Lexus. Faulty air bags are not a customers fault. Air bags where placed in cars for life saving protection, to not include this is the recall is a death sentence for the drivers and there family who are having this problem.
Description of the problem: Lexus is has an ongoing safety problem related to its airbag mechanism, the wiring harness to be specific- code 1861, which is indicated by an airbag warning that remains on while driving. This safety issue has been documented online in a number of forums by 2006-2008 Lexus driver. Lexus has been aware of this safety issue and included it in its limited warranty, however, most drivers did not experience airbag problems until years later after their manufacturer warranty expired. The out-of-pocket cost for this safety repair is upwards of $3500, forcing drivers to spend money for a manufacturing failure. Moreover, it is not possible to pass inspection with the airbag light. Lastly, this faulty airbag mechanism is a safety hazard that puts the driver, passenger and other motorists at risk of injury, paralysis, or even death if the airbag does not deploy. Because of the high potential for danger caused by the Lexus wiring harness, NHTSA needs initiate a Toyota/Lexus recall on this faulty part in order to protect the lives of motorists. Personally, I am afraid for my safety when driving my car. The airbag sensor is recently came on in my Lexus is 250. I spoke with my Lexus service representative when I brought my car in for service related to the "takata recall". I was told that the wiring harness was a separate issue from the recall and that I would need to pay out-of-pocket for both the diagnostic and the replacement (~$3500-3800). I will not be able to pass the mandated state inspection until the part is replaced and the sensor cleared, despite my car otherwise being in optimal driving condition, if this were a repair issue that affected only a small proportion of Lexus is 250 models, I would not bring this matter to the NHTSA. However, the volume of complaints after the Lexus TSB and warranty expiry has led me to urge NHTSA to intervene.
"takata recalls" air bags never deployed!.

The air bag light came on in our 2007 Lexus is 250. We recently brought it into the Lexus of cherry hill (NJ) dealership for a couple other recall items, and figured that we better have this air bag issue looked over as soon as possible. Thinking it was an electrical/circuit problem, we were completely shocked when the Lexus representative stated that admittedly there was a manufacturer's defect in the air bag cable harness; it was made too short in the Lexus 2006 - 2007 is 250 models. After researching, I saw that this exact information is all over the internet, posted by other angry 2006 - 2007 Lexus is 250 owners. In summary, the air bags will now not deploy during vehicle impact, until we, the consumer, pay $3,500. 00 to get them fixed. I went around-and-around with Lexus of cherry hill and their corporate office in California, fighting, because I see no reason why, I, the consumer, must pay a hefty price for an extremely important safety defect that is 100% Lexus' flaw. I have managed to get my out-of-pocket cost down to $2,300. 00 now, but it is $2,300. 00 of my hard earned money which was saved for a 2015 vacation, that I absolutely should not have to put out for this major manufacturer defect. They recalled our car at no cost, for wiper blades and floor mats, but Lexus refuses to make right what they built wrong, which could cause life-threatening injuries or death. Has Toyota/Lexus learned nothing from gm?.
The contact owned a 2010 Lexus is 250. While driving approximately 50 mph, the contact swerved to avoid a crash from an oncoming vehicle. As a result, another vehicle rear ended the contact's vehicle. The contact's vehicle crashed into a tree and the air bags failed to deploy. The driver sustained injuries and a police report was filed. The vehicle was destroyed. The manufacturer stated that the impact did not meet the specifications that would warrant air bag deployment because the vehicle was crashed into from the rear. The failure mileage was unknown.
I was driving my vehicle and the vehicle 3 car lengths ahead of me put on his brakes and when I went to put on my brakes my car continued to accelerate and I had no control of the braking and ran into the back of the vehicle. My airbags failed to deploy- my car was a complete loss to the front end ($17,000. 00) and the insurance appraiser, body shop, police officer, towing company were stunned that the airbags failed to deploy do to the severity of impact and damage.
I was in a car accident a 4-car pile up. I was first rear ended by a chevy tahoe. He shoved me into the car in front of me and then they hit the car in front of them. My entire front was severely damaged to the point my car is totaled. The back end of my car was severely damaged as well. The airbags did not deploy. I was in a 2007 Lexus Is250.
