Dashboard is melting and sticky. Causing a ridiculous glare from sunlight and headlights. Contacted Lexus dealership; they stated there is a recall for this but they couldn't help me I would need to call Lexus themselves. Called Lexus provided my VIN and other information. They told me my VIN was not part of the recall and I would be responsible for all repairs myself.

The left and right side mirrors have become loose and freely move forward and backward. I have to use heavy duty cloth tape to permanently secure them in the rear facing orientation. I found a youtube video which discloses the mechanical defect that needs to be corrected. This is a safety hazard if the mirrors were not held steady in the rear facing orientation and this mechanical defect should not occur.
Defective lcd/touch screen. While driving in the rain, the touchscreen digitizer failed on my car. The windows started to fog up and I realized since the touchscreen failed, I had no way to defog my windshield and other windows. Because I am only able to access the fan controls for both heat and ac, via the touchscreen. So I had to pull over on the sparse emergency pullovers on i66-va several times to manually wipe my windows so I could see. This happened at the worst time because it was during rush-hour, in a downpour. This created a very dangerous situation for me and other drivers as visibility was poor during the downpour. I have researched this on several Lexus/Toyota sites and the wiring of lcd/touchscreen digitizer appears to be a common defect and fails regularly. I am surprised that such a life - safety feature would be dependant on a failure prone system.

Tl the contact owns a 2009 Lexus is 250. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to start and was towed to north side Lexus (17925 north fwy, houston, TX 77090). The dealer stated that the vehicle was included in NHTSA campaign numbers: 14v647000 (fuel system, gasoline), 16v340000 (air bags), and 13v030000 (visibility/wiper). The technician informed the contact that the part that was needed was a fuel pressure sensor; however, it was not included in one of the recalls. The manufacturer was not notified. The vehicle remained at the dealer and was not repaired. The failure mileage was 100,000.
Lexus has a wide know issue with melting dashboards and door panels. My dashboard is melting. It creates a glare when driving, it houses critical electrical components that can pose a huge safety hazard. I drive this car daily and frequently transport passengers such as family and friends. Lexus refuses to do anything about it. Car interior repair shops have no solution to this problem. Lexus acknowledges that this problem is widespread but is not doing anything to prevent tragedy from occurring. The condition continues to get worse to the point that mechanics are refusing to work on anything that requires have to lay hands on the dashboard because it is literally melting and falling apart. They don't want to be held responsible for any further damage. This poses another safety risk as I can not fix any problems behind the dashboard at all if mechanics are refusing to do work on it. I have exhausted all search efforts looking for a solution. I am genuinely concerned about my safety and others. Lexus has manufactured thousands upon thousands of these vehicles and they continue to be driven on the public roads. Please help.

I have a Lexus is 250 2007, the dashboard material is low grade and unsafe, for visibility while driving in day hours. When I was notified by a friend that the Lexus organization have made a recall on the all the Lexus cars such as mine, I called the dealership in my city houston TX and they did not help me, and they said the recall don't exist.
Melting dashboard recall. I have a 2009 Lexus is 250 melting chipped dashboard and doors. It's very hard to see while driving due to the fact that the dashboard causes a glare in the window. Also the smell of melting plastic dash is sickening. I have recently taken my car to a Lexus dealership to have sewell replace the airbags every since then my navigation system has been making weird noises and now it's completely not working black screen and the buttons on the side is not working. To make matters worse my ac is on and I can't turn off because of the buttons are not working. Very frustrating and I'm freezing.
Dash has started to get stickey and shiney which reflects off the windshield making it impossible to see the road in front of the automobile , this is especially dangerious in sunlight or bright streetlight this condition has progressively worse over time!.
Rear view mirror foggy.
Poca visibilidad.

Is 250 dash has melted and creates harsh glare and reflects into the windshield blocking the view out the front (see the attached picture in which the gooey surface of the dash is blocking the view of other vehicles on the road) when driving east or west towards the sun making it dangerous to drive. The problem is worst on hot days when the dash becomes more tacky, gooey, and reflective. The dash also seems to off gas and create a haze that builds on the windshield. Toyota is replacing some off the dashes and interiors through a "warranty enhancement" but will not replace mine because the vehicle has been in a wreck, had an insurance claim, and been repaired. This voids their "enhancement". The issue is present on many Lexus vehicles, though and can be a hazard. They will not fix my vehicle because this issue is not yet a recall. I am worried about not being able to see out of the vehicle well.
My dash on my car is shiny and sticky from the defected meterial it is made out of and causes glare from the windshield when driving. Door panels are also leaving sticky residue behind on my hands when I touch the door panel. Lexus dealership admits from 2006 to 2008 there is a defect in the interior meterials melting and becoming sticky, but will not do anything to fix it because I am out of warranty. Please help this is very annoying that they dont care.
I cant see im blinded by the dash board its melting the clare from the sun is blinding on the dash melted plastic.
The rear view mirror on my 2006 Lexus Is250 is hard to see out of because there is something that looks like rust behind the glass. I did some research online, and there are several complaints and pictures with mirrors that look the same as mine. I am not certain what causes this to happen but it appears to be a defect in at least the 2006-2007 series of Lexus from what I have researched.
Rear view mirror has spots due to manufacturing defect that causes spots all over the rear view mirror making it very difficult to look at oncoming traffic.
My dashboard is melting and it's hard to see when driving because of the sun reflext.

The dashboard over the instrument panel and the front and rear side door panels are melting, cracking and deteriorating which causes dents in the material to the touch. All of the material is discolored and sticky or melting. This needs to be replaced immediately and a recall needs to be dictated by the NHTSA ASAP. Lexus notified me of the problem almost a year ago, and when I called they told me it would take another 9 to 10 months before they could replace the dashboard and side door panels. So, it would be over a 1 or more years since the original Lexus notice that they maybe can fix the problem. This is unacceptable and this is why the NHTSA needs to demand Lexus initiates a official recall for the affected vehicles with the melting dashboard and side door panel issues.
Rear view mirror on my 2006 Is250 Lexus has "streaks and splotches" which create blind spots - a serious safety issue. The dealer stated that it our vehicle was no longer under warranty, but admitted that it is a common problem. A quick search on the internet confirms that this is a common complaint. Replacing the mirror at a dealership is expensive, and given that it is likely a manufacturing defect, there should be a recall and remedy. Please investigate.
The rear view mirror has black lines on it, which indicates the coating behind the mirror is deteriorating in some way. I looked up the issue now and realized this is a more widespread issue. Some customers online have indicated it's hard to see anything using the rear view camera, thou my rear view has not go to that point.
I lost power steering and very hard to turn the steering wheel. Ps light is came on the dash.
My dash has been melting for several months now, it doesn't matter if I use something to block out the sun. Not only is the dash melting, it is breaking off in chunks in certain areas. When you touch it, it is sticky and leaves a print of whatever touched it. I am not able to clean it and it leaves a bad glare from the sun when you are driving. This isn't the first case I have read about this - what is going to be done, if anything.
I noticed a black spot in my rear view mirror one day and did not think anything of it, however the one spot turned into multiple streaks. It's getting harder to see out of the mirror which to me is a safety issue. I noticed that there are many complaints on this issue and there should be a recall on this defect as well. I have to make an appointment for the recalls on the melting dashboard and doors and engine. Lexus should really take care of this problem. I have purchased several new vehicles however I have had more problems with this car than I did with my other cars.
Material on my dash appears to be sticky, possibly due to hot weather, and can cause a significant amount of light reflection producing glare on the windshield. Depending on the sun's relative direction to the car, it can hinder visibility to where driving during the daytime is not feasible.
Dashboard is literally melting. Looks shiny and is sticky to touch. Leaves black residue on fingers and creates a dangerous glare on windshield.
I own a 2007 Lexus Is250 and the interior is melting. The dashboard has a glossy, sticky residue that has made driving during the day in sunny conditions impossible. The residue causes a glare that hinders my ability to see while driving. So much so that I almost missed a stop sign! the door panels are melting to the point that if you touch them the material sticks to your hands and clothing or just falls off and when I get it on my hands it causes a rash. I've contacted Lexus and submitted a request to have these parts replaced and I was quickly denied. I'm reporting this issue to you today because this is my only vehicle and I have no choice but to drive it and I wanted to document my concerns in case something were to happen. Thank you for your time. Have a great day!.
The dashboard is melted on the drivers side making it almost impossible to see clearly at certain times during the day. This is a serious problem that needs to be looked into because it can cause wrecks if it hasn't already. I know there are probably thousands of people that have this problem and Lexus should stand by its brand and fix problems that are not the consumers fault.
The dashboard of my 07 Lexus is 250 has been oozing a greasy unknown chemical. Aside from being unsightly and dirty, this sticky dashboard poses a severe safety issue. On sunny days, very common in s. Florida, the chemical ooze produces a glare on the windshield that impairs the driver from having a clear unobstructed view of the road. I almost struck a pedestrian due to the fact that he was unseen by me due to the blind spot created by the glare. Luckily, I was able to stop in time. Being able to clearly view the road is essential in conducting a vehicle safely. Research needs to be conducted to see if the defective dashboards will have an impact on the effective and safe deployment of the passenger airbags if a slight graze by a fingernail on the dashboard causes it to break off, how will the it react with the speed and power that an airbag deployment will have. Another safety concern, that needs to be investigated is the toxic impact that this chemical creates, especially after being exposed to the heat of a parked car in the sun. Is anybody investigating the impact that this defective material may have on the health of my family and myself, after being exposed to this unknown substance on a daily basis? this material is reacting so unexpectedly by falling apart, how do we know it is not toxic? I 'm the original owner of this ¿luxury vehicle who has less than 60,500 miles. Lexus and the dealer, offered 25% off to repair the defective dashboard and doors. It is disappointing and troublesome to realize that Lexus does not acknowledge that this safety and quality issue is due to defective materials and not caused by regular wear and tear. What criteria does Lexus use to decide who gets this manufacturer defect repaired for free and who pays $3000? how is it possible that my floor mats have outlived my dashboard and door panels?.
I purchased a 2008 Lexus Is250 as a cpo and in the 3+ years I have owned it I have been complaining to Lexus about the breakdown/melting of the dash and door panels is getting worse everyday, especially now that it is summer. The breakdown/melting of the dash is causing a glare that blocks out my view of the road, I have pictures to prove a mid sized car can be completely blocked out by the glare. . Read more...
Approximately 2 years ago my entire dash board and side panels started to melt. I have contacted Lexus and they continue to say they are waiting on the manufacturer for parts. I live in marrero louisiana with extremely high humidity and temperatures. This has been a safety hazard. When the sun hits my windshield, the glare from hitting the melted dash completely blinds me. I have to lean to the right side just to see out of my windshield. It is melted to the point of it being untouchable without getting sticky glue on your hands. Anything that rubs against the side door panels creates grooves and marks because it's like clay. Now theres a recall with the takata inflators in the front passenger airbag which really concerns me because its affected by high temperatures and humidity causes degrading of the part. Since my dash board is completely melted to the consistency of hot glue, I can't imagine that helps with my airbag situation either. I have been contacting Lexus for the past 2 years with no luck. If I should have an accident due to the dash glare, I will expect to have the production company held accountable. Any help you can offer with getting this message across to anyone at this point would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
We recently bought a used Lexus is 250 2006, and shortly after buying noticed two huge problems. This is extremely disappointing because, as first time Lexus buyers, we were expecting to be impressed by the quality of the Lexus brand. Now we're concerned because both of these problems are widely report by others from the hot, sunny south. 1. The rear-view mirror is distorted in such a way that it doesn't provide a clear view. We didn't notice this before we bought because the lady we bought it from had a vanity mirror with little diamonds over top of the regular mirror. Since it matched the vanity license tag that she had and since she was an interior designer, we didn't suspect at all that it was covering up a huge safety issue. The vanity mirror obstructed safe driving and it was a horrible mirror, and when I took it off, I found that the Lexus mirror underneath was laden with black/brown blotches, making it very difficult to see traffic behind me. 2. The melting dash is shiny and creates a glare on the windshield that makes it difficult to clearly see out the front windshield. I didn't notice this on our short test drive before we bought the car, but on my way home from buying the car, it was a bright, sunny day and the glare from the sun shining from the dash and reflecting up onto the windshield was horrible. The glare caused me to reach up to touch the dash to see what was causing the glare and I found the dash tacky and soft. The stickiness is a major concern as well, but the biggest problem is that it is a safety issue. Not being able to clearly see out of the front and the back of the vehicle is putting many lives in danger. I hope Lexus doesn't wait until there are injuries and deaths reported as a result of these manufacturer's defects. We want to love this brand, but this type of un-recalled defect is causing us to doubt our choice of a Lexus vehicle.
It was 90 degrees out and my dashboard was so gooey like sticky I was on my way to work and had a glare half the size of my windshield very dangerous could barely see on a sunny day. Door panels melt also leaving particles in your fingernails gotta clean my kids nails everyday and make sure they wash there hands everytime opening the door cause kids will be kids and sticks fingers in there mouths im very nervous about these particles falling off and melting we are breathing in whatever hazardous material is used to make the dash . The glare is very dangerous they need to recall these dashboards im scared everytime I get in my car this is very dangerous sometimes you cant see people crossing the street . This needs to be recalled I got tons of pictures of the glare and the sticky dash its my whole dashboard and my door panels its all melting I took it to Lexus for major concern they denied me any help.
Dashboard starts to get really shiny and sticky when the car is out in the sun, either driving or when parked. After temperature in the car and on the dash return to a more moderate temperature, the dashboard is no longer shiny, but it is tacky. Problem is when the dashboard is out in the sun and it gets shiny. This causes a fairly bad glare on the front windshield since the sun is reflecting off the dashboard and on to the front windshield. At times it is hard to determine what is in front of you if the dashboards glare reflects the sun in a certain way. There a few occasions when the dashboard glare was so severe, you could only see out of 2/3 of the front windshield when driving. Door panels also exhibit the same behavior and can cause issues when trying to change lanes since the reelection off the top of the door panel makes it hard to see the car in the lane next to you and also make its hard to see the side view mirror with out glare from the door panel reelecting in the mirror. Fortunately this has not lead to any accidents, but the car we use is our secondary car and is hardly used throughout the year.
I copied one of the other complaints, since my experience is exactly the same. Car dashboard is literally melting. The surface is now sticky which reflects a glare on the front windshield obstructing safe viewing for driving. When the sun is shining, it is very hard to see through the reflection of the dash on the inside windshield. Rearview mirror has black lines obstructing safe viewing for driving.
