Lexus IS250 owners have reported 50 problems related to wiper (under the visibility category). The most recently reported issues are listed below.
The dashboard on the Lexus is 250 is melting and disintegrating leaving a shiny residue that reflects on the windshield while driving in the sun. This shiny residue caused by the melting of the dashboard impairs visibility through the windshield making it dangerous while driving in sunlight. I couldn't see debris that was on the road while driving and hit the debris on the road, this caused me to swerve around and almost hit another vehicle. I'm concerned about this because this shouldn't be happening on a vehicle that is only a few years old. This shine reflection on the windshield is unpredictable as the low visibility only occurs when the sun reflects on the dashboard. I can't predict which direction I will be driving, facing the sun or not, making it dangerous to drive at all times.

The dashboard material has begun to melt creating a shiny spot in front the drivers side and creates a glare in the windhsield reducing visibility at times.
I purchased a 2008 Lexus Is250 in February 2011, I have loved my car and have taken the utmost care of it, but recently on a long road trip I noticed my dash was actually melting causing a distracting glare to the point my vision of the road is blocked (pretty hazardous, if you ask me). I began researching the issue, and from what I have found this is a common problem with Lexus and Toyota. Lexus has even issued a tsib, yet doesn't tell their customers in time before their 50000mi/4 year warranty is up, so they wont be responsible for covering the cost. This seems to be a big issue in the state of FL and other states with hotter weather. I recently took my car into a Lexus of north miami (as I found online they have dealt with several customer with the same issue). They sent the request to corporate and came back and said I would have to pay for labor for the dash (around $200+) and the doors they would go 50/50 which would cost me out pocket roughly 1400 per door. For a safety hazard, I forgot unless people die does Toyota motor corp do anything to fix defects in their cars! the melting effects all the car panels, it ruins my clothing, and unfortunately I am not a scientist but I am sure the break down in chemicals, could only be just as harmful. I really hope you can help, as this is unfair for a corporation to know their issue and not at all stand by their customers. . Read more...

Car dashboard is literally melting. The surface is now sticky which reflects a glare on the front windshield obstructing safe viewing for driving. Rearview mirror has black lines obstructing safe viewing for driving. Lexus is aware of both issues which appear to be manufacturer's defects but refuses to recall. Consumers are expected to bear costs to repair these manufacturers defects upwards $3000. A dashboard should never melt.
Dashboard is deteriorating, melting, and becoming very sticky and shiny causing glare on windshield. Door panels are also breaking down.
The dashboard is sticky, chipping and melting resulting in a blinding glare on the driver side wind shield. The glare reduces and hinders visibility and it has become a safety concern and hazard. The dash and door panel are so soft that anytime I bump it with my nail or ring, a chunk of the dash comes out. This melting is a potential hazard for the function of the air bags.

Dashboard of the car has melted, specifically right in front of the driver position. The size of the melting/shiny reflective area is round and like 9 inches wide. The reflection of the shiny melting rubber from the dash affects having a clear visibility of the road. This is a safety hazard and not acceptable for a relatively new vehicle. This happened for the first time over two years ago, but it just keep getting worse, the car is driven by my pregnant wife.
The contact owns a 2006 Lexus Is250. The contact stated that the rearview mirror developed abnormal black stains, obstructing his visibility of the roadway. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but since the vehicle was no longer under warranty, they refused to provide any assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 120,000 and the current mileage was 125,000.
Visibility:rearview mirrors/devices:interior I currently own a 2006 Lexus Is250. About a year ago, I noticed several splotches on the rearview mirror. Initially there were only a few, but the splotches increased to the point that it is now impossible to use the rearview mirror which interferes with rear visibility and normal driving conditions. This situation can increase the possibility of an accident since it becomes impossible to see anything thru the rearview mirror. The vehicle was taken to the only Lexus authorized dealer in puerto rico and I was informed that I had to pay for all charges since the vehicle was already out of warranty. This is a potential safety issue which should be covered by Lexus, regardless if the vehicle is on warranty or not.
A few months after I purchased this car back in 2011, I started to notice that the dashboard and front door panels started to deteriorate; literally looked like they were melting. It feels very sticky, it gets scratched easily from the slightest touch, but the main thing is the dash, it looks so shiny it creates a horrible glare that reflects on the windshield and makes the visibility very difficult and it just gets worse and worse with time. I have complained several times with the dealership, they say they will only cover the repair partially but still the amount that would come out of my pocket is significantly high. According to what I have researched, Lexus released a service bulletin about this issue with the sticky/shiny dash and door panels. However, the extended warranty on my car would not cover the repair/replacement of the parts. I just hope they are aware that this goes beyond of being only a "cosmetic" problem, because just the glare on the windshield itself can become a significant driving hazard.
Rearview mirror on all Lexus models shows black "tiger" marks across the mirror causing a potential safety issue. Have asked Lexus to fix and said no. They know it's a known issue.
Have 2006 Lexus Is250 with melting dash panel that blinds me in the am during my eastward commute and then again on my westward commute home every day. I purchased vehicle used in March 2010 with 61000 miles from dealer who, unknown to me, painted over melting dash to hide it but by August 2010, the paint wore off and dash was very sticky. I took the care to my local Lexus dealer in birmingham al and he said there was nothing he could do as warranty had expired. I now live along the gulf coast in florida and this continues to be a severe safety hazard and, despite sunglasses, it is also a health hazard that can lead to cataracts. I am a physician and am aware of the risks of repeated exposure to intense sun glare. The materials are defective and Lexus/Toyota has known about this problem for almost 8 years and has chosen not to issue a safety recall to replace these dangerous dashboards. I will never buy another Lexus product because of the shoddy, unsafe materials used in construction and the uncaring corporate attitude. Please force them to issue a recall to replace these defective parts before someone is killed.
I have complained about the melting and stickiness of my dashboard and door panels already but no resolution have taken place by the Lexus or manufacturer. I have called the service department over 9x's and very seldom I have gotten an answer or a call back. Know the dashboard is so shiny, you can't drive it due to an extreme safety hazard because of the glare not being able to see! please help to get this problem fixed. People lives are at stake when driving these cars.
I leased my Lexus Is250 back in 2007 and have since then been the only owner. Since then the dash board of my car has been melting and now causes a horrible glare/reflection on my windshield creating poor visibility when driving on sunny days which is most days her in south florida. Also the inside door panel material has become very soft to touch and seems to be melting also. After discussing this with Lexus they offered me to go 50/50 on the repairs to have these problems corrected which means hundreds of dollars out of my pocket for a repair that is due to poor materials. My main concern however is them doing something about the dashboard because have a blind spot on a windshield is a very unsafe condition for any driver.
The inside rear view mirror is discolored and is difficult to see clearly from.
