3 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2009 Lexus LS460

Failure Date: 04/04/2018

Vehicle at fast food drive up notes engine vibration, warning lights for engine, vsc warning, and instruct to take vehicle to Lexus dealer ASAP. Car has virtually no power with 8-10 mph max. Lexus service dept notes valve spring is broken among the 32 valves in the engine. Warranties had expired. Lexus opts to replace only one defective spring but half of the total number (one side of v8) were replaced by the dealer. There is concern that unbalance of spring strength in the engine could lead to problems at any time. These valve springs were the subject of a Lexus recall in 2007 and 2008 models of this vehicle. 2009 models supposedly used a different spring or perhaps a different supplier. Some problems with 2009s were reported too. In 2010 another different spring was used in 460 v8. I am not even sure that a 2008 version of the engine was not used in my car since it was assembled in the summer of 2008. My complaint is that Lexus should cover complete valve spring replacement.

7 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2007 Lexus LS460

Failure Date: 11/04/2014

The car has a radom delay problem when accelerating to pass a vehicle on the highway can cause a rear end collision that Lexus try to fix by changing the both engine heads completely but it didnot solve the problem entirely. After oil changes the car lags and delays due to valves not sitting correctly (valves are in the heads). Lexus is aware of this problem but has no resolution and do not see it as a safety issue. This is very scary and has been told to Lexus by a number of customers. It is all over online forums and it affects 2007-2009 Lexus Ls460 (all trims) has 5 sec. Delay while trying to pass on occasons.

10 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2007 Lexus LS460

Failure Date: 12/18/2013

Took my vehicle in for a routine 60k service. The only service provided was an oil and filter change, tire rotation and maintenance reminder reset. The issue that has occurred since has been hesitation or poor acceleration from a stop and low speeds.

11 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2007 Lexus LS460

Failure Date: 03/27/2013

My car is a 2007 Ls460. I bought it new in Sep 07. It currently has 35,000 miles on it. On several different occasions during my ownership of this car, it has failed to accelerate, in response to the accelerator pedal, at low speeds. This performance issue only lasts a few hundred miles and then the car returns to perfect for an extended period. This can be very dangerous in certain situations. About 18 months ago, I made the correlation that this strange behavior occurs right after an oil change. Since that time I have paid special attention and there is no doubt in my mind that it is related to the oil change. Many other owners have reported this in internet car forums.

12 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2007 Lexus LS460

Failure Date: 03/08/2013

After an oil change at the dealer, the car is unable to accelerate, sluggish, and the powertrain acts lethargic, particularly when trying to enter the freeway or merge into traffic. The dealer has performed a software update, however the problem still persists. This only happened after and oil change. Several other Ls460 owners I know complain about the same phenomenon. Lexus has no answer.

13 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2008 Lexus LS460

Failure Date: 04/07/2012

After a manufacture recall for the valve spring replacement, I had my first oil change. Directly after the oil change, I noticed that around 35 mph when I needed to pass a vehicle, I would step on the gas (most of the time pushing the accelerator pedal to the floor) the car was very sluggish and unresponsive. It would take about 10 seconds for the vehicle to slowly accelerate and then the car would take off with the rpms climbing near red line until I released my foot off the accelerator. If I set the cruise control at around 35-40 mph the cars engine surges. I can hear the automatic gear shifting going on as well. This happens much more frequently when it's hot and humid outside. This is an every day occurrence. I have taken my car to the repair facility, they have hooked up the computer to my car but it shows nothing. There are no associated engine lights with the surging. I only use 98 octane premium unleaded fuel, the vehicle has been looked over numerous times but still nothing. I have almost been in some accidents because of the problem. I'm worried for the safety of the vehicle.

14 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2011 Lexus LS460

Failure Date: 10/08/2011

Engine went into safe mosde while traveling about 65 miles and hour while pressing the gas pedal, it appears a cylinder misfired.

15 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2008 Lexus LS460

Failure Date: 03/01/2011

After the vehicle has an oil change, the car will (intermittently) hesitate to accelerate. This is especially dangerous when you are trying to merge into the freeway or similar occasions. When attempted to depress the gas pedal with expectation that the car will respond and accelerate as normal, the engine just revs up and the vehicle doesn't move any faster than current speed. This will continue for 5-10 seconds then it kicks in. This delays is very dangerous when you want to get out of harms way (accelerate to merge into freeway, passing etc). The problem is intermittent and will go away by itself within a few hundred miles (but will come back sporadically). All this happens by itself and cannot be reproduce at will. However the occurrences often happen after oil change or so (but not necessary). I have bought the car into the Lexus dealership(s) to fix (yes 5 times at different dealership) but they cannot fix this issue.

16 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2007 Lexus LS460

Failure Date: 11/28/2010

I just received a recall notice--"valve spring replacement safety recall notice" from Lexus. I called my dealer and was told the first available appointment for this recall was in one year--Nov. 2011. I feel that if a recall is warranted, I should not have to wait one year to have it done.

17 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2008 Lexus LS460

Failure Date: 11/03/2010

The contact owns a 2008 Lexus Ls460. The contact stated that the number 7 valve broke off into the engine and then broke a piston. This failure occurred after the contact had recall campaign 10v309000 repaired, which was related to the valve springs on the engine. The failure was diagnosed by the dealer and manufacturer, but they were unable to repair the failure. The VIN was not available . The failure and current mileages were 23000.

18 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2007 Lexus LS460

Failure Date: 09/11/2009

I arrived home after dinner, drove my 2007 Lexus Ls460 (equipped with keyless ignition) into my attached garage, closed the garage door and, leaving the key fob inside the vehicle, I entered my home and eventually went to sleep. I was awoken at approx. 2:15am by a carbon monoxide alarm located in the foyer inside my home adjacent to the entrance to the garage. I entered the garage to discover that the cars engine was still running, the garage filled with noxious fumes, and the entire vehicle extremely hot to touch, inside and out. I opened the garage door and was eventually able to shut down the engine and clear out the fumes. As I see it, the failure here was two-fold: (1) when I opened my door to exit the car, no alarm or other sound alerted me that the engine was still running, as is the case with ignitions requiring keys. This is particularly problematic because the cars engine runs in virtual silence; and (2) even after the car was unwittingly left idling while in park, the engine did not cut off after some predetermined period of time. I spoke to my local Lexus dealer, who suggested that I contact Lexus USA directly. At the dealers suggestion, I wrote two letters (9/29 and 10/20/09) to a mr. Mark templin, vice president, in torrance, CA. I received no reply in writing. I did get a call from a different representative of Lexus (mr. Templin, I was told, was unavailable), who informed me that it is impossible for the engine to be kept running under the circumstances I described. At that point, after being told by Lexus that they see no problems with their keyless ignition system, I elected to take another approach and contact NHTSA. Because Lexus told me that the incident could not have happened as I describe it, Lexus has taken no responsibility for this incident which nearly killed me and which could kill others, and offers no solutions or fixes to this problem.
