While driving, the car jerks and then cuts off. This has happened at least half a dozen times within the last 2 months. Engine light is constantly on, even after servicing the car at local Lexus dealer. When car is parked, I noticed exhaust fume smells heavily with gas.

I purchased a 2001 Lexus RX 300 from a private party in February of this year. Wiithin days of the purchase the transmission failed and that was replaced, but I had also noticed some blue smoke when I started it. I took it into my auto mechanic and he told me that the car was burning oil, and actually there was a class action suit filed against Toyota related to the problems, I have been advised that this condition will lead to engine failure if the engine is not replaced. I have been advised to file a complaint in regards to this issue to see if I qualify to be part of the lawsuit and file a claim.

I have a Lexus Rx300 2002 which I purchased used because of their well know reputation to operate for a long time. Two weeks ago our mechanic noticed our oil down a quart and did a oil change and asked us to watch oil level. 300 miles later it was down again. We were referred to take it to a Lexus dealer to have the problem checked out. There is a recall for oil gel for 1999 to 2002. Well ours had no signs of oil gel, but it is engine related. They can not tell us what the problem is until they take the engine completely apart. The referred us to Lexus for a goodwill reimbursement because of the high cost to fix the engine. We sent all our records of oil changes and it took Lexus 4 days to get back to us with a offer of they will pay for the parts and we pay for the labor of approx. $3,100. 00. I have read about the Lexus engines of those years having problems and I feel it is a mechanical defect from the factory. Our car has 56,000miles and I am told the engine is just breaking in. I feel I have a lemon and I need some help because I am having a problem accepting their offer. . .

I had service at Lexus and my transmission still went out. They were racist and biased and would not fix it. I had to pay out of my pocket. After that happened, a cylinder went out so now I need that fixed. I thought that Lexus was a superior car. (they do not honor the warranty as they should, at least not in houston west Lexus). This one certainly is not worth what I paid and is not what I expect from Lexus.
Took 1999 Lexus RX 300 in for regular service at 39,000 miles, and asked dealer to check engine noise. Dealer found cracked exhaust manifold and split exhaust pipe coming off manifold. Maifold replaced under extended warranty plan but split exhaust not covered because car was out of original warranty. Dealer carried exhaust manifolds in stock due to frequency of problem. This was a design/manufacturing defect and should have been covered by manufacturer.
Exhaust manifold on right side of engine cracked, which resulated in replacement of the manifold and 2 sensor at owners expense. The part cracked at 71,000 miles and Lexus would not reimburse repair because the car was out of warranty. Exhaust manifolds should not crack at 71,000 miles, if ever. Dt.
