Lexus RX350 owners have reported 10 problems related to car stall (under the engine and engine cooling category). The most recently reported issues are listed below.
Engine abruptly stops and I have a 3 second stall, then the car resumes normal operation. Could be a real serious accident without warning. This happened in motion on a highway from a stop light or stop sign or pulling out onto traffic.

Car was pdi and delivered on 06/14/20 with an open recall 20la01 that was likely to be a life-threatning issue. Even after pdi was performed, the breaks were disfunctional, so had to take the vehicle for service on 06/19/20. Lexus found that rotors required resurfacing to fix the breaks and at the same time completed the open recall 20la01. However on 07/03/20, the car stalled in the middle of a highway traffic putting the pax thru a life-threatning situation. Car has been finally towed to the service and I am verbally promised that the car has been fixed to not present any life threatning issues. Since it is just 15 days of purchase and vehicle been into the service review for 3 times with some life-threatning open issues, I am requesting Lexus to either refund or provide me a replacement.

At 1800 miles, vehicle started to hesitate when pressing on gas pedal. When accelerating from stop, vehicle is hesitating and studdering very badly. This is affecting accelerating and causing a severe safety issue while driving. While at highway speeds, vehicle constantly is lunging hesitating when trying to merge into traffic. This has almost caused 3 accidents as in stop and go traffic, when pressing on gas to accelerate, car is shuddering and not finding right gear. Do not feel safe in car. Feels like car is going to stall out !!.

The contact owns a 2007 Lexus Rx350. While driving 45 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning and was towed to an independent mechanic. The vehicle was towed to a local dealer (metro Lexus, 13600 brookpark rd, cleveland, OH 44135) where it was diagnosed that the cooling pipe needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified and opened case number: 1801240854. The failure mileage was 129,827.

While sitting at a stop at engine idle, the check oil indicator light flashed followed by a short rough idle. The vehicle was pulled over and parked and a phone call made to the local Lexus dealer. It was advised to have the vehicle towed to the dealership due to the nature of the warning. The vehicle was towed to the dealer ship. Upon inspection by the service department at the Lexus dealership, the oil cooler hose had exploded causing a loss of engine oil. At the writing of this note, information was shared that indicated a newer version of the oil cooler hose would need to be installed. Any potential damage to the engine would have to be accessed after the replacement of the hose and clean-up of the under carriage of the vehicle and insulation surrounding the underside of the car was completed. After researching this topic, we are hopeful Lexus will share in the expense of this repair since it has been documented that similar failures have occurred.
While driving my 2008 Lexus Rx350 at 35 mph in heavy traffic, the vehicle suddenly stalled leaving me without power steering or brakes. I was able to stop the vehicle but was stuck in the traffic lane with heavy traffic. Fearing that I would be hit by oncoming traffic I called 911 for support while the tow vehicle was dispatched. I was unable to leave the vehicle safely until police arrived 20 minutes later, due to the position of the vehicle and the traffic. The local Lexus dealer has contacted me to let me know that the issue was a broken valve spring caused the engine to seize while running. I am concerned that this condition may be somewhat of a known issue with Lexus as I have seen that they had problems with valve springs breaking in this engine.

The car completely halted while driving on a city road. The steering locked and the car completely stopped in the middle of the road. The manufacturer inspected the car. During inspection they found a/c compressor locked up causing vehicle to stall under load. Once the a/c system is activated, vehicle will stall out. They also confirmed that this could happen while the vehicle is in motion on a highway going 60 mph and if it did, it would stall the car and lock up the vehicle just like it did in the first incident. It seems completely unreadable to stall a vehicle in motion for some confirm/convenience feature like a/c. I feel this is a fundamental engineering problem with the way the car is designed. I would like to ensure this is declared as an issue with the design of Lexus vehicles and there is a trigger to disconnect ac under such circumstances where ac can stall a car in motion.
As I reverse out of my driveway, which is on an incline, onto a flat main roadway, the vehicle stalls (while still in reverse). This has happened multiple times on my 2010 Lexus RX 350, as well as previously on my 2008 Lexus 350.

This complaint is regarding the vvt-I oil hose on a 2007 Lexus Rx350. Either the current rubber hose or the "improved" rubber hose with Lexus service campaign (9lh) doesn't address the safety concern about this hose. This hose routes a high pressure flow of hot engine oil outside the engine block. Rubber deteriorates over time and miles and can unexpectedly break or rupture causing engine oil to rapidly drain from the engine. Despite denials by Toyota/Lexus, this is in fact a safety issue because ruptured oil lines can and have cause accidents and fires when seized engines and/or oil soaked tires and/or brake pads cause loss of vehicle control and/or motorists to become stranded (possibly out of cell phone range). I have contacted Lexus to put the correct fix of all metal oil line which it began installing in Toyota/Lexus vehicles manufactured during April 2008 and Lexus refused to do so. I strong urge NHTSA to initiate an investigation on this issue due to the safety concern.
I have a new 2010 Lexus RX 350 keep stalling while I was waiting for traffic light, problem stated soon after I started driving , while mileage was around 1500, when the car stalled abs (anti brake system) sign showed up. I took the cars several times back to Lexus, they used their computer to check computer records of my cars and claimed nothing wrong with the car, until the third time I went back , the brake malfunction warning sign showed up while Lexus's technician was inside the car with me, then they kept the car 10 days and repaired the problem, but still claimed nothing else is wrong with the car, cannot explain why the car stalled, they claimed computer of my car didn't record any stalled history therefore no proof car stalling problem. I told them the computer of my car is so defect that they didn't find brake malfunction problem until the sign showed up in dashboard, why are they still rely on the computer? they kept the car for 10 days to repair a brake, how come it takes 10 days? I believe they found out that the car has more than brake problems, and they know all the Lexus car has potential pending problem, either electronically or computer that control the electronic , imagine if my car stalled while I was driving on the high way, for the safety of all the cars on the street, your division should look into the problem of not only Toyota but also Lexus and other cars made by Toyota motor inc.
