Exploding passenger side mirror I own a 2009 Lexus RX-350. It's in excellent condition with limited mileage. Last week, we were stopped at a stoplight when suddenly there was a very loud & frightening explosion emanating from the passenger side mirror. The mirror came flying out of its casing, hanging by its wires, & was cracked. Moreover, the fluid that's in these auto-dimming mirrors sprayed/dripped onto various panels, damaging the paint. I did not hit anything. No biker, person, or crazy bird hit my mirror, nor was I shot at. It was also not temp-related. . Read more...

Switch assembly back door opener is melted. It is gooey and comes off on your fingers. This switch was already like this when I bought the vehicle.
On or about March 5th 2014, I attempted to open the tailgate on our 2009 lexua Rx350 and encountered hot melted rubber sticking to my fingers. I removed the sticky black rubber from the lock, but it was difficult to remove the tar-like material. As a certified electrical technician, I concluded that the electrical switch on that tailgate lock stuck and heated to a point that melted rubber, making a goo-like material. Please note this above referenced car was not in the sun during the time the rubber melted. We have been using this vehicle without using the tailgate lock with the rubber boot, because we do not live within 80 miles of a Lexus dealer, not can pay the $295 to replace the boot at this time.
The trunk hatch handle has melted, leaving black rubbery goo on fingers if opening using the handle. Residue is hard to wash off. Concerned that it melted due to electrical problem. I've read all complaints and have found numerous other owners experienced the same problem.

Part# 84840g 8484021010 switch assembly, back door opener - rubber cover of switch housing deteriorates/depolymerizes leaving behind a hazardous goo and hindering operation of rear hatch release mechanism.
The contact owns a 2014 Lexus Rx350. The contact stated that she opened the lift gate with the automated button to give a passenger access to the rear. The contact accidentally depressed the automated button from inside of the vehicle and the life gate slammed on the passenger's head, causing his scalp to become split open. The passenger was transported to the hospital where three staples were used to close his head injury. The vehicle was taken to the dealer but was not inspected or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 1,700. Updated 04/29/lj.

Melted, gooey, rubber strip on rear hatchback opener (caused by electrical door opener switch overheating?).
Just wish to report melted rear door latch. . . Been getting gooey for months and finally came off - seems to be an ongoing problem with several Lexus and Toyota vehicles. Wasn't sure if this is heat related or electrical.
Shortly after buying the vehicle used (one previous owner), upon cold start a loud rattling noise could be heard coming from the engine area for about 30 seconds. Took to a Toyota/Lexus dealership for routine oil change, vehicle inspection, and asked the technicians to also address the noise. We were told that they couldn't reproduce it, and that it shouldn't be a problem. Driving down the freeway in greater milwaukee, the car stopped functioning. After visiting a local mechanic, then later resorting to a Lexus dealership, found that the vvt bolts had fractured. All of this is exactly as outlined in NHTSA campaign 13v395000. Now we have a dead luxury SUV due to an engineering problem, but Lexus will not provide any resolution to their known problem, even with physical evidence (photos, and failed parts still in hand).

I noticed my back door opener switch was starting to melt. At first we thought its from the heat of the summer but then after careful consideration we thought that we've had the car for 4 previous summers with no issues with said button. We thought that there must be some electrical component inside the automatic button that must be getting too hot that's causing the hard plastic to melt.
Hi, I would like to inform you about a serious safety issue I discovered in the Lexus Rx350, the car is keyless and you just need to push a button to start and shut off the engine. The safety problem is that the car will shut off when pushing the button even if the car is still in d=drive and the car will roll back if parked on a slope like a driveway etc. It is extremely dangerous as kids can be behind the car. Please check this safety issue. Thank you.

Moisture in headlights causing spread out light beam and possible rust/short circuit in electrical system.
Rear latch melted, not due to temperatures in the city and state where I live but instead to a electrical component overheating. Lexus will not fix without a charge of over $200. This is clearly a defect.
Brake light switch is defective, just like the recall issued to 2004 Lexus models. Please investigate. [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

I was told that a circut breaker failed under the dash ,as to the cause. I bought this car new and had some strange electrial issues. The car was a total loss.
I was driving my 2008 Lexus Rx350 on the freeway at 65mph and my son rolled down his window and instantaneously there was an extreme and painfull cabin pressure that Lexus call "normal cabin pressure". It startled me, I almost crashed with my wife and two kids in the car with me. It makes your ears hut, very painfull. I bought a Lexus because of t he quality and luxury that the Lexus corporation portays. I am vey disappointed because the Lexus dealership told me this is normal cabin pressure. The corporate office told me that this is normal and is no longer wanting to discuss this matter any further with me. They said that I will have to hire a lawyer if I want to pursue this matter any further. I think that the Lexus corporation is promoting false advertisement by claiming that they are commited to high quality and luxury while still mass producing the Lexus RX model with this deffect of "normal cabin pressure". This is so frustrating. I finally buy a luxury vehicle and it turns out to be defective with no apparent solution. Bassically I just have to live with this ear pearcing annoyance. What a disappointment with Lexus. I payed so much money for a disappointment!.
The radio/cd unit when changing stations will turn unit off and eject a cd from the unit. This occurs intermittently. In addition the backlight display flashes on and off intermittently. Dealer states that no problem has been found when troubleshooting.
Idiot/trouble lights all come on intermittently while driving; no apparent affect or impact on operation of vehicle; other than the anxiety created by the sudden appearance of all the dash trouble lights coming on all at once, for no apparent reason. This continues to occur intermittently while the vehicle is moving. After shut down and restarting, the trouble lights return to normal "all-off" status. This has been occurring for the last two (2) years. I have discussed the condition with two different dealers (coconut creek, FL and greenville, SC), but they cannot duplicate the condition.
Navigation system does not identify poi's such as gas stations along route. This is dangerous as when the nav system is used as a primary info source - looking for a gas station, one cannot be found. Leaves user in a panic state - which can lead to dangerous situations. Lexus - sold an integrated nav system - which is supposed to be a reference when traveling. This reference is un-reliable and should be recalled for a fix as a safety issue. Discussed this with sales person at dealer, acknowledged verbally that the nav system has problems - no upgrades available.

Nav system does not distinguish height on highways. This is very dangerous on elevated highways - as nav system asks driver to take exits that don't exist. As a result will cause a driver to panic - leading to an accident situation. Nowhere in the advertising documentation does it state that it cannot distinguish elevated highways and side roads. Lexus charges a premium for this device and it is a safety concern to drivers unaware of its faults. Moreover, there should be a way for car companies to be accountable on the quality of electronics they deliver. A notice to all owners with the nav system should be sent out. Car dealer acknowledges nav system deficiency. No fix available. Substandard product for a Lexus automobile.
Nav system manual entry is disabled when car is in motion. Forces user to use voice commands. Voice recognition is poor - has difficulty in recognizing words such as montreal, ottawa. Street names have to be exactly for example avenue main, if main is said it will never find it. Does not have the option of selecting intersection when driving. All this make the nav system a safety hazard. Driver becomes distracted trying to get the entry into the system. Slows down, drifts in lane. This is more dangerous than allowing the driver to enter data manually. There is an after market over-ride available - which the service manager says, if installed will not void warranty. But from a safety perspective, Lexus should offer a usable system or refund users their monies and disable a dangerous feature.
The contact owns a 2010 Lexus RX 350. While attempting to park the vehicle, the contact stated the vehicle abnormally lunged forward and stalled. This was not the first occurrence of the failure. The manufacturer was contacted and advised they were aware of the failure but had not deemed the issue as a safety concern. There were no recalls for the failure. The failure mileage was unknown and the current mileage was 2,450. Updated 07/06/10. The consumer stated when going from reverse to drive on the street, the vehicle would stall. Updated 09/21/10.
When the SUV shifts from 1st to 2rd gear the engine revs up about 1000 rpms and hesitates 2-5 seconds before the shift takes place. I can't rely on power when needed because of this. It's not constant, about 30% of the time it occurs. The same thing happens when down shifting. The dealer, kendall Lexus of eugene oregon (rick strong-service manager) is aware of the problem and says "Toyota won't put out a new chip to fix the problem". Rick strong also said" I told the salesman he should inform potential buyers about this problem before they purchase a vehicle". This problem is ongoing since I bought the vehicle.
Our two 2007 Lexus RX-350 (and all models 2004-2009) have electromagnetic field near the dashboard of approximately 100 milliguass. This is causing our knees and hand cells to degenerate as Lexus has not done adequate job of providing faraday cage or shielding from emf. This reading of 100 milliguass is what you find under high voltage transmission lines and studies have linked 2 to 3 milliguass to childhood leukemia, cancer, headaches or cell deneration. I contacted Lexus customer service but they brushed off our safety concern, saying most household appliances produce emf. For reference, 2010 Lexus RX-350 or current model ES-350s have 15 to 20 milliguass. Therefore Lexus has technology to shield but has done inadequate job of shielding 2004-2009 Lexus RX-350 bu issuing a recall. We are very concerned about this health and safety issue and need help from NHTSA as you are the only entity that cares.
