The contact owns a 2002 Lincoln Ls. The contact stated while driving at 50-55 mph, the vehicle accelerated unintendedly. The brake pedal was depressed but the vehicle failed to respond. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact stated that he stood on the brake pedal until the vehicle responded 8-10 minutes later. The vehicle speed was 120 mph at the time the contact regained control of the vehicle. The contact stated that the failure reoccurred while driving. The contact shifted into neutral (n) and veered to the side of the road where the vehicle came to a complete stop. The contact then shifted into park (p). However, the rpms revved up to 5,000 mph. The contact turned off the vehicle. The dealer and the manufacturer were not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 230,000.

: the contact stated while applying brake pressure, the accelerator pedal was also pushed which caused the vehicle to lurch forward and strike another vehicle from behind at 45mph. Although there was a crash, no one was injured. The vehicle sustained minor damage. The police were on the scene and a report was taken. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer. The dealer determined the placement of the brake and accelerator pedals were accurate and suggested the crash was not due to any defect. The dealer could not duplicate the problem, no repairs were made concerning the brake and accelerator pedals.
Intermittently the vehicle will accelerate when the driver removes foot from the accelerator to apply brakes for stopping. Engine surges/rpms increase. Owner drove passed stop sign through cross walk. Vehicle was inspected, but the cause was still undetermined.

Concerns of the locations of the brake and accelerator pedals on 2000 Lincoln Ls. When brake are depressed, it is easy to hit the accelerator pedal as well. When this happened the consumer had to turn off the ignition while keeping pressure on both pedals. If both pedals were release at the same time the vehicle would lurch forward. The vehicle lurch once which resulted in the vehicle hitting the consumer's garage door and right turn signal lens. The manufacturer was contacted but there has been no follow-up correspondence.

Intermittently when consumer removes foot from gas pedal at any speed to brake there is vibration in the gas pedal when the gas pedal is depressed again.
Driver was slowly approaching a low curb while parking in a church parking lot car was moving at no more than 1 or 2 miles per hour as the curb was approached and the brake was lightly applied pending a full stop. Vehicle suddenly lurched forward with the sound of high engine revolutions. Car crossed over a three foot wide sidewalk and collided with two trees just beyond the sidewalk. Skid marks on the sidewalk indicated that the brake was firmly applied as the car crossed it under unintended acceleration. Car has been at dealer body shop for almost 10 days for repairs. Dealer promises to "diagnose" electronic throttle mechanism before returning car to owner. Telephone call to Lincoln elicited no interest and firm denial that such problem had ever been reported to the company. We were unsure that this car was safe to operate.
