On Saturday February 06,2016 at 12 a. M. I started my car and it sounded normal. When I placed my car in reverse it started to idle very highly and was reading 3000 rpm although I was still holding my foot on the brake. I placed the car in park and turned it off. I started the car again and it sounded normal until I placed it in drive and started accelerating. The car was pulling as if it wanted to take off during braking. When I removed my foot from the brake pedal the car accelerated on it's own. I drove 1. 3 miles never once placing my foot on the gas pedal. Every time I came to a red light the car was reluctant to stop. There is nothing in the way of the gas or brake pedal and upon exiting the vehicle there was a smell of plastic or rubber burn off. This started in an emergency room parking lot and continued through the city streets until I arrived home. My car only has 98,208. 1 miles on it and I am the third owner. I have looked up this problem in many forums and have noticed that it is consistently being ignored and labeled as driver error. However, my foot was flat on the floor and only touched the brake pedal to come to a reluctant stop.

Normal clear weather driving down busy street when care suddenly slowed down almost resulting in a collision with vehicles behind me. The engine stopped , I restarted with very limited drivability the etc failsafe mode kicked in for no apparent reason this issue must be addressed before someone is seriously injured.

Transmission is faulty e-code pops check transmission and Ford doesn't know how to fix it come on! I was pulling out of a side street and I was pasted by a semi that with conditions barely missed t boning me cuz of this faulty whatever u wanna call it! I can't even check the [xxx] fluid! it costs $120 just to check it! it blows my mind u CA this car is considered safe and that this transmission issue hasn't been taken care of! people will die or I'm sure already have, the transmission is what drives the wheels how is it safe that u can't control ur speed! the thing acts different every day. Some days ok some days lagging and slow and some days the damn thing takes off like I dumped the clutch and gunned it but I barely pushed the pedal! I've never been so dissatisfied and disappointed with laws rules regulations or whatever! every Lincoln Ls should be crushed or fitted with totally different transmission! information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

Hello, I bought a 2003 Lincoln Ls and I'm getting a message on the dash that is saying etc fail safety mode and the car is not able to go over 30 mph, and has very slow pick up and is running very hard. I have found that sometimes if I turn the car off/on the message does not come up the car drives normally. I have tried replacing the throttle body after getting the check engine light came on with to codes p0207 and p02110 and I'm still having the same problem. I have read allot of complaints about this problem with fix.

The contact owns a 2004 Lincoln Ls. The contact stated that after starting the vehicle and before shifting gears, the vehicle accelerated without manual force, causing the contact to have to use the parking brake to stop the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnosis but they were unable to duplicate the problem. The manufacturer was not notified. The approximate failure was 86,000.
I was completely stopped at a red light with my foot on the brake. The car suddenly lurched on it's own. My reaction was to apply both feet to the brake with force. In spite of that, the vehicle continued to crawl and it rolled into the intersection. I was hit by an oncoming car. My car was totaled.

Tl-the contact owns a 2005 Lincoln Ls. While driving various speeds, the contact approached a traffic stop signal and when the brake pedal was depressed the vehicle suddenly surged without warning. The gear lever was shifted into park in order for the vehicle to stop. The failure progressed over a period of time and became a permanent occurrence. Currently, the vehicle was being diagnosed by an authorized dealer. The manufacturer was notified of the defect. The approximate failure mileage was 100,000. Js.
Driving down the side street and my car goes into limp mode. Reads etc . Start up will move about 1/4 of the block and does it again. Had to keep turning it off and on to get home. Once stop in the middle of the intersection. From what I have seen this is not unusual for Ls. This is a safety concern. Have not got my car fix because it is very expensive to fix.
The contact owns a 2004 Lincoln Ls. The contact stated that while driving 50 mph the vehicle stalled and the engine fail safe mode message illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who diagnosed that the throttle body and coil packs were defective and needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure who did not offer any assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 80,000 and the current mileage was 81,000.
Shifts hard, when in 20-30 mph, in gear 2 and 3. After diagnostic, dealer said it may be transmission, but they have to tear it apart. If bands, torque converter, or solenoid pack they have to tear down and rebuild. He did say that one of the solenoids went outer if bands were bent, they would have to rebuild the transmission for a cost of $2500 - $3500. I have read all over the internet where people are complaining about hard shifting and transmission problems. It seems that the part was defective by design. One person said that they bought a kit that fixes the design flaw - 5rw master servo bore repair kit (Ford 5r55w/s/n). It is not made by Ford, it seems they are too cheap to fix the real problem. They should listen to peoples concerns. I am also going to call the 800 number for Ford Lincoln and send them a letter. Would use with any tranny rebuild. The final cost of the repair is now at $4000. 00. Yikes.
I just bought this car from a used dealer last month haven't driven 6 times yet and now this month it is stalling out we thought it was the fuel filter so we replaced that but now I tried driving it again and I got an error message saying "etc engine failure safe mode" the CA then began slowing down and I was unable to accelerate my speed. The car was also jerking as if it would cut off so.
I bought my Lincoln Ls in August in September it started messing up when I would get on the interstate it would stop in the middle of driving and the steering wheel will not nove so that I can pull over it is very dangerous.
I have a 2004 Lincoln Ls with a little over 96,000. This car has been giving problem with acceleration. When I push the gas, the car hesitate as it switch gear. I have taken to the dealership and they said, it's the transmission so I took it to a transmission shop and they said, no problem with the transmission so I took it to auto electric shop and they said, "there's nothing wrong with car" but I have still have the same problem. I am so frustrated and I will never purchase another car. Is car is a lemon.
I was driving to work early in the morning with my child in the back seat. While getting off the freeway (thank god) my 2004 Lincoln Ls went into "etc engine failsafe mode". I could not accelerate or drive over 20. At this point, I had to pull over because I was in traffic and I did not want to get hit. Once I pulled over, I turned the car off for about 5 mins and then turned it back on. Starting driving out of the parking lot and once I got to the main road, the error message came on again. Could not accelerate over 20 again. At this point, I did 20 all the way to the sitters house to drop off my daughter and tried to drive my car to the dealership. I have been having issue on top of issue with this 2004 Lincoln Ls and by the reviews looks like I am not the only one. I goggled the error message and I find nothing but angry customers who have similar Lincolns. Someone needs to get to the bottom of this and have the company recall this car or pay for labor and parts for everyone. This is a inconvenience to everyone who owns a Lincoln and having these problems.
The contact owns a 2004 Lincoln Ls. The contact stated when traveling at 35 mph, the vehicle would sporadically surge forward then correct itself without warning. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the ignition coil was replaced. There were no prior warnings of the failure. The failure mileage was 45,000 and the current mileage was 55,000. Updated 09/16-10 the consumer stated on one occasions, the vehicle accelerated and hit the medium at a gas station. The vehicle was damaged. Updated 09/20/jb.
When car accelerate, the care goes into an etc fail safe mode and shuts down. This almost caused an accident on two occasions. The dealership knows it is an issue, but says I will have to fix.
2004 Lincoln Ls safety issue due to throttle body failure on the highway car went into a safety mode at full speed on the main interstate and almost got myself and family killed.
The car will suddenly surge or die out while driving. Can occur at any time while driving, did it to me multiple times, whether in idle or on the highway going 50+mph. I am trying to get the part replaced from the dealer. The part is on backorder, seemingly there is a large number of these going bad and not enough new ones to go around. The part the dealer is telling me went bad is the throttle body.
Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6) last night my 2005 Lincoln Ls had runaway acceleration when I put it into reverse. I couldn't get it stopped until I was out of the driveway and halfway into the street. I almost hit a tree. I know that if I take it into Lincoln, they will deny any issue. [xxx].
The contact owns a 2003 Lincoln Ls. While driving at 20 mph, the ect engine warning light illuminated as the vehicle began shaking excessively. The contact moved the vehicle from the roadway and shut off the engine. When restarting, the vehicle resumed normal operation. The contact stated the failure would occur intermittently. The dealer advised there was a full throttle failure. The vehicle was not repaired. In addition, the transmission warning light would intermittently illuminate. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing of the transmission and there were no repairs. The failure mileage was 52,000 and the current mileage was 82,000.
Lincoln Ls 2004 - throttle body failure - engine fail safe mode - no parts available nationwide from October 2009 until present date March 4, 2010 - unsafe to drive and car remains at dealership with no date from Ford for replacement as apparently they are trying to re-engineer and fix whatever is the problem. After looking on internet this is apparently a problem that is running throughout the entire Ford line. It seems like this is in complete contrast to the problem that Toyota is having in that without warning the engine shuts down to 20 to 30 miles per hour leaving you vulnerable on the highway and unable to warn anyone driving behind you that you have a problem that you have no control over throttle. Many owners report cars jump forward or reverse without warning.
The contact owns a 2002 Lincoln Ls. While driving approximately 65 mph on normal road conditions the vehicle accelerated without intention, and then down-shifted. The driver was able to gain control and continue operation with caution. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for inspection. The technician stated the failure was contributed to the lower control arms and ball joints. The vehicle was being repaired for the malfunction. The failure and current mileages were 90,000.
On July 4, 2009 while traveling on a major highway driving at the speed of 60 mph the acceleration stopped functioning without warning. This was the first time this issue ever occurred. To correct the problem the car was taken to a Ford dealership to repair the problem. I was told that the throttle body needed to be replaced. The throttle body was replaced and while leaving the dealership on another major highway the issue happened 3 times after the repair was said to be completed. Both times the issue occurred my family and I was in a near fatal accident. The car was returned to the dealership on that same day. After a day of diagnostic the dealership could not explain to me what was causing the problem. Finally, the dealership called and stated that a radio frequency was causing the problem. I was also told that the there was a problem with the coils. At this point I don't think the certified technicians or the dealership know how to repair the issue. I do know that the service manager want me to keep paying money until they stumble upon a solution. I refuse to put my family on the highway a third time with this ongoing issue. Maybe next time we won't be so lucky.
Car starts and runs rough, then surges forward. Have to hold the brake hard. Car then stalls and gives "etc engine failure". Upon restart car will run fine for a while. Dealer cannot identify the problem, as it does not consistently throw a code, replaced the coils.
My 2000 Lincoln Ls v8 frequently accelerates on it's own. There is no response to braking and putting it in park or neutral, the rpm rises to 3k. It only stops eventually on its own or after it's been turned off for a little while. Recently, this has caused the temperature gauge to red-line. The engine does not actually overheat, but the car reacts as such and power to the engine is reduced. My local Lincoln dealer has attempted to repair the vehicle 3 times without success. They were only able to reproduce the behavior on one occasion, but still could not identify the problem. I've read a few related complaints from other Ls owners regarding this unexpected acceleration. This could possibly hit someone or something when attempting to come to a stop. The brakes need to be applied really hard to bring to a stop when this occurs.
: the contact stated the vehicle had just been parked with the brake pedal depressed and the vehicle accelerated forward. The vehicle went over a curb, hit a tree, and stopped after hitting two other vehicles. A police report was taken at the scene. The vehicle was towed to the dealership, but they were unable to determine the cause of the problem. The vehicle had accelerating problems while driving at various speeds prior to this incident. Updated 05/30/06.
The contact stated the check engine light and other lights illuminated. The vehicle would not accelerate over 40 mph. The mechanic reset the warning lights. But was unable to diagnose the cause of the problem. The warning lights illuminated again. This time the vehicle would not accelerate over 30 mph. .
Contact states while parking the vehicle it accelerated and crashed into a building. The vehicle was towed to a local service dealer, they were going to repair the vehicle. The consumers foot was on the brake pedal when the vehicle accelerated.
The contact owns a 2004 Lincoln Ls. The contact stated that when accelerating from a complete stop, the vehicle would hesitate before engaging and would then jerk abnormally. In addition, the vehicle would stall intermittently without warning. The dealer performed a diagnosis and determined that the throttle box and transmission were defective. The throttle box was replaced and the computer was reprogrammed although the dealer advised he was unable to determine why the vehicle was stalling. The vehicle was repaired but the failures recurred. The VIN was unavailable. The failure mileage was 23,000 and the current mileage was 95,000.
Upon pressing the brake or slowing down, the vehicle surged. This happened intermittently. . It has happene dove rthe four years tha tconsumer owned the vehicle. Dealership has never been able to find anything wrong. They had replaced the computer in the car. At another, they said they had to reprogram the computer. Wipers are unrelable when needed. Has caused quite an inconvenience during storms, as well as a potental for an accident.
Consumer request for Ford to buy back 2004 Lincoln Ls which is experiencing problems with acceleration. ** answer required***. The vehicle would stop accelerating, jerk and on several occasions, go into limp home mode. The dealer could not find anything wrong with the vehicle. The consumer requested Ford to replace or a refund since the problem could not be fixed. The vehicle also displayed the following; when the cruise was on the vehicle would skip, the wrench light illuminated and the cruise would not work at that time, after a cold start, the wrench light illuminated and the engine had gone into limp mode. The left turn signal would not cancel at times, the dealer replaced the multi-function switch.
The consumer constantly experienced acceleration problems. The vehicle jerked and would not accelerate. This problem occurred while being driven on the highway. The consumer was advised that the problem was the electronic throttle control. When the cruise was on the vehicle would skip, when returning to the center from a left turn the signal would not cut off at times, the engine would race at low speeds and did not accelerate properly, and the engine would go into limp mode.
Tried to start vehicle and vehicle would not stay on and would not accelerate. Contacted dealer and arranged for tow truck . On 6/3/04 contacted dealer for status report and to arrange for alternate transportation. Service rep. States that vehicle throttle assembly failed therefore not allowing oxygen into the engine. Approximate part arrival is 3 days. I do belive this vehicle is a lemon. Never purchasing another Lincoln.
